  1. Nobody is forcing you to do anything. Is there a gun to your head? Plenty of compact cars are available from multiple manufacturers if that's what you want. If you ever read stats you'd realize that SUV and CUV sales have skyrocketed in the past 5 years and for many companies going this route will yield good sales numbers. Your circle of friends isn't representative of the market as a whole. This isn't a conspiracy, this is the end result of market research and careful planning as companies can't afford screw things up. You do realize what goes into the entire phase of bringing out a new model don't you?

The material required for the batteries destroy the environment they're mined from, there are no real good ways to recycle EOL batteries so they end up in a dump creating a nice toxic soup, they're charged up with power from coal, fuel and other greenhouse gas producing products and all the parts and the cars themselves are delivered on diesel trucks. Also, look at the charging network. There aren't enough charging stations plus the electrical grid can't even handle the amount of EVs that the Government wants. Until EVs can be produced environmentally friendly, recycled properly and I can charge it in the same time it would take to fuel up a gas car and the network is good it won't be viable.

  4. Funny thing. I was nearly run over by a lady backing out at Wal Mart and she was driving a Forester. If she can't see out of this vehicle what would she do with something with a narrower window line? I always felt the Forester never stood out at any one good thing but it does a little bit of everything and that's what makes it so liveable. I like the ability to enter and exit a vehicle as easily as possible and the space is a huge factor.

  5.  @Basically_a_nobody  Oil consumption is only covered if the motor is burning more than 1 quart per 750 miles. Your engine can be burning a quart per 900 miles and they'll deny the claim and tell you to top off the oil. If a high mileage car from the 90s doesn't burn oil there's no excuse for a new car to do so.

  6. I like the cheaper interior. It's going to be used by families which means kids who aren't the best with treating things gently. A cheaper rubberized interior will clean up easily with some APC and done.

  9. Hmmm this or the upcoming Acura TLX Type S? I like the direction Cadillac is going because there is still the comfort factor but you get the sporty feel and love the chrome delete. As for the review, I love the couple's review where I get a far better idea of how the car feels which in many cases is more important than just hard numbers. Go Andrea!

  11. The vehicle is too new to exhibit the long term effects of oil not lubricating the motor properly. Give it another few years and issues will start cropping up. Why do you think manufacturers like BMW quietly started lowering the oil change intervals from 24,000 kms to 15,000 kms after about 6 years? Because the motors started getting issues with sludge and timing chain failures and they had to pay out tons of money in CPO warranties fixing these issues. This vehicle will eventually suffer the same fate.

  13. I REALLY like this new CX 50. Mazda has shed the image they had with the Protege and went premium and powerful. I drove the CX5 and the Miata at a test drive event and enjoyed them very much. This fits the bill for comfortable daily driver with easy entry/exit which I've come to appreciate when wearing bulky winter clothing.

  15. AWD doesn't mean better traction in the winter if all you have on are all season tires. I still use winter tires on my 4matic Benz once November hits because you get a discount from the insurance company plus it transforms the car into a mountain goat. Go anywhere in deep snow. IF swapping is annoying to you then go for a set of all weather tires. Toyo and Continental makes some good ones and they work decently year round which makes sense for those in the Vancouver area.

  17. It has 258 foot pounds of torque. These motors push a lot of torque at lower RPMS which mean quick launches and easy city driving. Quick ratios for the first few gears help too.

  20. And that's what bugs me about the top trim GV80. Genesis vehicles were always the value option to the German competitors but now that it costs just as much and doesn't really do much to differentiate itself or blow the competition out of the water I don't see it selling well. The BMW will handle that much better, the Mercedes will ride that much better, the Audi Q7 will be more comfortable and have a functional 3rd row.

  21. The CVT (as much as I hate them) works in it's favor because it will go about finding the right "ratio" for high speed driving. There's no reason why this vehicle can't do highway speeds especially in North America. If my first car I had years ago, a 1994 Toyota Corolla with 105HP and a 3 speed auto, can do highway speeds then this will be just fine. Both weighed about the same and remember my Corolla only had 3 ratios to choose from. The CVT is infinite. BTW look up Hyundai engine problems. That's the only thing stopping me from looking into the Hyundai brand.

  22. BMW styling, pretty much since the Bangle era, I've never really liked but one thing I can't ever dislike is how BMWs drive. They pull smooth and strong, handle great and make you inclined to get into some trouble. They are addicting cars to drive.

  23. I would say the price is very reasonable at $104k. In a world where Toyota Rav4s and Lexus RX350s are pushing $45k and $65k respectively to get a premium SUV like this SQ7 that keeps up with and beats some sport sedans is amazing. The fact that there's practicality, function, AWD, comfort and fun all in one package but subtly styled (I don't like vehicles that are too shouty) makes this SQ7 a winner. Thanks Zack and Andrea.

  26.  @OMGWTFLOLSMH  I was talking in the general sense. There will, of course, be outliers that just drive locally to the store with their car. I wrote what I wrote because the average driver drives about 18,000kms per year or more if they are to go with such a car then the network needs to be vast. Also, what's the point in buying such an expensive car only to use it in such a limited capacity. That doesn't really save on much.

  27. Haha I love Andrea's expression at 8:01 right after Zack says "It's a tight little package". Great review and there is something very charming about a zippy little hatch that is still daily driver comfortable. Gone are the days where you had to sacrifice comfort for handling or vice versa. You can have your cake and eat it too.

  28. I'd say Cadillac kind of flies under the radar but I like that as it won't attract too much attention to itself. As for reliability you're still better off with a Caddy versus a BMW and as far as resale value is concerned there is no luxury car (other than Lexus) that will hold their value so resale falls further down the totem pole versus things like driveability or feel.

  29.  @Brian-jv8iy  Not true. MB is making a killing on their basic A, CLA, GLA and C Class models and move tons of them yearly regardless of market. They won't stop their cash cow cars as not everyone can afford or care to pay $100k for a car that will be worth $35k in 5 years. They referred to this car as a luxury car because of it's features and it is more upmarket compared to a standard A220. The term luxury isn't just meant for Rolls Royce, it can be used in many more situations.

  30. The ridiculous pricing isn't a new thing on BMWs or any premium car manufacturer. I remember when the E92 M3 came out. If you wanted to spec the car with a nicer metallic paint the option was only $655 but if you wanted iPod integration the option cost $850. They knew people would rather spring for the iPod integration so BMW gouged the heck out of the customers on that option.

  32.  @RedmanLS3  Ummm most Hondas/Acuras made in the US have a stellar reliability rating. Same with Toyota models. IF there is an issue it's not because of the location it's put together at but at the design phase most of which is done in Japan.

  35. They need to fire whoever designed that infotainment system and whoever signed off on it. How can you go from such a sensible layout to such a mess? This reminds me of the first gen iDrive from BMW in 2002 when the E65 7 Series came out. VWs were always supposed to be the sensible vehicle and while ergonomics, solidity, build quality, powertrain and driving characteristics are great to actually control anything inside the car is beyond illogical.

  36. We once had a 2001 Mazda Protege. That car, while reliable and easy to maintain, felt like a tin can on wheels. It amazes me how much more solid and premium new Mazdas feel. Great review Zack and Andrea.

  37.  @kingkrimson8771  Well a Toyota/Lexus product from back then was as good as the new ones are today. Same with Honda/Acura. Mazda has improved which is impressive but not because of time. They improved because of the competition.

  38. EVs are a long way away from being viable. If anything the big snowstorm we had in Ontario proved that. All of the EVs ran out of charge when they were stuck on the 401 and it's not like you can boost them and they can run. The owners had to ditch their cars and a diesel truck had to come pick them up and take them to a service center because once an EV is totally dead you can't even get the doors open.

  39.  @kellingtonlink956  Passion for the brand doesn't keep a company afloat. Volume and profitability do. Unless you Porsche enthusiasts want to pay 3 or 4 times as much for a 911 the company will barely stay afloat. Don't forget that Porsche was in dire straits in the 90s so much so that they were helping Mercedes develop their 500E out of desperation. If it weren't for the simpler models like the Boxster, a base 996, the Cayenne and now the Macan Porsche wouldn't exist and you guys would be the next Saab crowd.

  40.  @kellingtonlink956  Yeah now it has appreciated because it's far different compared to a water cooled Porsche from the 996 era or newer. The thing is if Porsche went belly up they would have a small following. A passionate following but a small one nonetheless and the cars would have a high sentimental value but not a high dollar value. The fact that Porsche was able to stay afloat means younger generations can experience the Porsche pedigree and Porsche's true potential has been unlocked. As nice as the older 911s are you can't disagree that a nice 997, 991 or 992 drives like a dream.

  41. Yep. The finance rate is the exact same on most used vehicles and if you add an extended warranty it actually works out to longer coverage than a new car warranty plus you paid less for the entire package overall.

  43. Another thing. The bezel around the speedometer is inexcusable. If cheap TVs don't have a bezel they could have easily done that with the screen in this Mercedes. It might seem like nitpicking but in a car where the details matter this is on that list.

  44. QX60. Both vehicles are quiet but there is slightly less NVH from the VQ powertrain in the Infiniti versus the Cadillac 3.6 liter motor. Ride quality is softer in the QX60 but keep in mind the handling will be a little less sharp when compared against the Caddy.

  45. No the grill is too big. It doesn't take a genius to realize that car grills are getting way too big. It exposes the AC condenser to get hit by rocks and looks obnoxious. If the big 3 add big grills people complain about it but the second a German manufacturer does something wrong, they get praised for it. Makes no sense.

  47. Yeah and when the Hybrid system needs repairs all the money you saved on gas will be used to correct the issue. The only worthy hybrid system is from Toyota as their warranty is very long. Sometimes a simple NA engine is the best way to go.
