  5. Russia has been invaded from the west so many times that it shapes Russian strategic thinking. Charles XII of Sweden (aka Carolus Rex), Bonaparte, Hitler invaded Russia. The Poles sacked Moscow, back in the 1600s. The Brits teamed up with Turkey, in the Crimean War. Turkey has invaded Russia several times, on its own. Russia's been pushing west, when it could, since Catherine the Great. And when they pull it off, it works. A conventional war with the Warsaw Pact would have been nuts. And while nuclear weapons constitute a powerful deterrent, nobody wants to be in a situation where the options are nukes or surrender.

The only other country remotely of assuming that role was the Soviet Union, and NOBODY wanted Stalin running the world. Hell, the Russians were glad to be rid of him when the old baschard died. America beat back German Imperialism (WWI), Nazism and Japanese Imperialism (WWII), Global Communism (Cold War) and has taken the lead in containing Islamist terrorism. Don't you think America deserves a LITTLE credit for these achievements? What has Russia done for the world, other than invade, occupy, and tyrannize its neighbors? What has China done for the world, other than sell cheap electronics and commit genocides? Proud (you'd probably say arrogant) American.

It's time Europe started acting like responsible, adults, and not freeloaders. In case Europe hasn't noticed, America has problems of its own. The only thing he took away from American business was its access to unlimited cheap foreign labor. This didn't undermine American prosperity, it just spread it downward further than businesses liked. Businesses actually had to pay American workers American wages. The horror!! So they got in a snit with the GOP and threw in with Democrats. American business is now trying to suck up to Democrats. ESG and its sibling DEI (DEI is DIE spelled sideways, sort of) are ways of currying favor with Dems, in the hope Dems will cut them a break on taxes and regulations. Good luck with that.

The world doesn't WANT Russia. And the world can screw Russia pretty badly, by doing nothing to Russia. Not buying their gas and oil. Not selling them stuff they need to keep their economy semi-modern. And finally, as Peter has pointed out, Russia's demographics are a sh¡tshow. Russia, as we know it, will probably fall apart in another 20-30 years.

  41. The Nordstream bombing wasn't THAT difficult. Any military with a combat swimmer service could do it, as well as a number of private underwater service companies. Nordstream was only about 70 meters down. They put it in shallow water so it could be more easily serviced, if needed.

  43. The problem the Republican Party has, is that when the business community wing of the party is in charge, they do NOTHING for the rest of the party. The only thing they are willing to spend political capital on, is tax breaks for their donors. This has prompted the rest of the party to look for alternatives, such as Donald Trump. Peter likes to whine about Trump driving the business community out of the Republican Party, but it's the party base that drove them out. Donald Trump was the focus and the standard bearer, but the Republican Party base is sick and tired of voting for candidates who do nothing about their issues. Also, if Trump does manage to move the Republican Party to a more worker-friendly stance, he may be able to pull union workers away from the Democrats. And there are a lot more union workers than there are country club millionaires.
