There are other higher education technical programs that are both legitimate and which weed out those who can't cut it. That isn't the fault of the "system," the curricula, or the educational process. As I repeatedly note: those who know nothing about education baselessly consider themselves the best judge of it. And those who blame others for their failures are irresponsible; what they need is a few courses in philosophy -- especially the subset ETHICS, thereby learning that "individual responsibility" does not consist of blaming everyone and the world for one's own failures. Or using every available excuse to avoid challenging oneself because one is simply LAZY.

And that question applies across the board. Thus the invention, also, of the resume. A short order cook can be trained within a relatively short time on the job. But that does not qualify the person to be a high-level chef. Society has learned as a matter of necessity to make the distinctions you are challenging as being "unnecessary". That's precisely the same as the point I continue to make: those who have never been to college or university believing themselves qualified to judge the efficacy of college or university education. I've been seeing these bashers of college and university educations for decades. They are stupid people who don't know what they're talking about, and are too stupid -- or dishonest -- to admit that fact.

It has always put profit over people. A significant percentage of "Boomers" were working to change that -- and now subsequent generations who are stone ignorant of history are blaming "Boomers" not only for the (dis)functioning of the system but also for the condition of the world. I'd love to have those history illiterates tell about a glorious past when everything was to their liking. You had a choice of electives, and you chose that one because you figured you already knew it all about all the others. I had to take a year-long seminar in science -- based in genetics. I had no interest in it, but it was a requirement, so I decided I could "enjoy" it as long as I had to take it. I pulled an A. Sometimes we have no choice but to deal with unpleasant realities. We can do that, or we can try to avoid and bullshit our way around them. One chooses to grow, or one chooses to avoid.

But society needs the educated -- we do not live in the agrarian 18th century. And I had no support in attending college -- where I wanted to be beginning at 12. No one "pushed" or encouraged it. I had to do it on my own. And figuring I had to bust my ass just to survive it I got straight As. I would have got A+s if they'd existed. I've never heard or seen any pushing of college or university; but I have had university schoolmates who were there to "get a better job," and who settled for Bs because "good enough". The hunger for education I experienced can't be unique to me; so they were occupying seats which should have been occupied by the hungry for learning. Otherwise, if the MISGUIDED believe school after high school is about "better jobs," then attend vocational schools. Just cease bashing that with which you have ZERO experience: college and university -- else you sound envious.
