  1.  @ELZI_the_Light  No one is manipulating what I see in the sky. And I see that the Moon is a sphere, by the way the shadows are cast. The Moon would not have phases as it does if it weren't a sphere. If it were a disk and nearby, then it would not appear round at all times and from all places, as it does, but rather oval sometimes.

  2.  @sparehead8911  Well, he's right about the origin of the term. The ancient Greeks did call the other planets ἀστὴρ πλανήτης (astēr planētēs), which does mean "wandering star". Our word "planet" is taken from this phrase. That of course doesn't mean that he's right about anything else.

Descriptions of the globe Earth and heliocentric model are examples. Can you explain the retrograde motion of Mars?

Go up a mountain with a barometer and see the pressure drop: there's your pressure differential without a container. And despite what flat Earthers think, the Earth's atmosphere breaks no laws. Atmospheric pressure is caused by the weight of all the air above us pushing down. As we go up, there's less air, and thus less pressure. At the edges of space, there's next to no pressure, because there's next to no air above, so gravity holds the air from escaping. Perfectly logical and well understood.

The history of the development of the technology to do so is very well documented, they had the money (ten times what NASA gets today, adjusted for inflation), and good political reasons to do so. And there's no way they could have faked the six Moon landings, with their photos, videos, Moon rocks, retroreflectors, signals sent to radio telescopes around the world, etc, back then, and even now it would be impossible to fake all of that.

  11. What is an "accurate" picture of the flat Earth model? I've been following flat Earthers for years, and they have many different models: the Earth a disk, an infinite plane, with or without a firmament, the Gleason map or no map, etc.

  14. Raimundė said it. Also, many of us have done our own experiments and made our own observations. You can too. Build an equatorial sundial and learn to use it. Take the altitude of Polaris from three different latitudes. Watch the shadows on the Equinoxes. All these simple observations and many others fit a globe, and don't fit a flat Earth.

  18.  @susettemclachlan8765  So geometry is a liar? A nearby Sun circling above a flat Earth would not apparently (as the sundial shows) move at a constant rate. Just as nearby objects move more quickly across your field of view, so would a flat Earth Sun move more quickly when it's overhead and closer to you, than when it's near the horizon and further away. You might want to build a sundial yourself. There are instructions online, it only takes about five minutes for a simple but functional one. cheers from sunny Vienna, Scott

You're right, the current flat Earth movement is ultimately largely based on the Bible, but it was popularized by the fundamentalist and quack doctor Samuel Rowbotham in his 1881 book Zetetic Astronomy, or the Earth Not A Globe. Most modern flat Earthers up until a few years ago used Rowbotham's model- a flat disk surrounded by a wall of ice, the North Pole in the center, Sun and Moon 32 miles in diameter and 3000 miles up, etc. So it's not too much of an exaggeration to regard Rowbotham as the father of modern flat Earthism.

  34. Did you read the title? This video is not intended as proof that the Earth is not flat (there are plenty of those), but rather as an explanation of why there are flat Earthers. Showing that the Earth cannot be flat is easy. One sunset is enough.
