You got some of those facts wrong... HK existed even in the Ming dynasty. As well as the Tang dynasty as well. Some of those who are called "fishing people" "hok lo"... Maybe they avoided the wars and infighting on the mainland.. when it did happen... and they fled to the coast to fish for a living. But then again... it can be said that, the original settlers of the "Hua Xia" people, were yellow river people as well. They fished for a living and that is how they survived. Some of the Qing dynasty people were basically siberians and Russians... with some heritages linked to Korean blood lines... This is why there had always been a North and South Divide. There was once upon a time.. a literal line drawn... between North AND South....
What the British did, was that, they tried to reconcile.. the so called "infighting" with many European countries... to "unite" "China"... but in truth... in history.. there never was a single China. Never was. Never did. Just cooperation. Does not mean that you can and should leave your own region or hometown.. or whatever. Because of trade, this is why many English speaking chinese often reside in the East Coastal areas.. all the way down towards HK. HK was not even supposed to be opened up for trade. Cos Britain wanted Shanghai. It never wanted HK. But the people who gave it away... i.e. Qing Emperor... basically forced the British onto the Canton's Pronvicial govenors. Cos it is their enemies' location.... Ironically... the Qing dynasties.. did not know that, the Canton provincial people would work with these Europeans... and literally opened up trades.. and the rest is history.
Cos then.. when prosperity came... some of the Fuijian region people seeing that their trades are slowing down, cos the trades have gone down Southward... this is when, they too went Southward and to enter HK as well. And this is whereby numerous fights and infighting took place...
I never knew that... some of the scholars are saying that... by right..."HK never had a single legal and political structures". They said that.. there had always been two legal systems in place. HOW is that possible ?????.... Cos if this was the case, then many European banks and companies could not have been dealt with then. And nor, should the World Bank have entered HK to begin with. And the entire existence of USA should not exist then. And if this is right.. then surely.. China needs to cough back up their various loans and materials from abroad then. And skills... and patents.... etc etc etc. IF the NSL is strictly to be implemented... Then ALL of PRC's development over the last 30 years, need to roll back.... Back to the original point.

"China" is made of around at least 120 or whatever "countries".. by European standards. The word "dialect" is a modern made English terminology. Considering that even just under 200 years ago... Many cities across the globe had no electricities.. and that people could not speak or even talk...or even had television. Why do you feel that "Cantonese" is "wrong language within the PRC" ? And yet, so many people call "China" as "China"... and not as "the PRC".... The thing is, even their own internal media does not report and use the terminology "PRC"... Why ? Cos they fear that it would split their powers apart. Right this moment, there is the PRC... and then there is actuall many mini countries, which was never reconciled.. and media papers like SCMP is not helping. Cos it used to be a localised regional paper which covered the actual news. BEfore, originally it was owned by a chinese family... and they reported their angle.. because of globalisation, and because of various other treaties and contracts and promises both at the Eight Nation level as well as the UN level.. such that, even "non-countries" are becoming an actual "country" ?? People just became sheeps... and not even know their own rights? They assume the powers....
THAT is what is going on here. And THAT is why people fight.... Xi did not even entered the borders and boundaries into HK when he visited. Why ? Cos that region is not under his governance.. and yet, papers like the SCMP KEEPS going on about the fact that it IS ? Why ? Because the whole company is actually used to spread misunderstanding, and bad media reportings ??? Or do they just see it as a form of .. it doesn't even hold soveignty ????....
So many people "work in HK".. but yet, they don't see themselves as invading, THAT is the problem today !!!!!!

@timetraveller2300 : If you translated or read the chinese, in different tones... about the language, then you know would know Cantonese is called "a language".... in Chinese.
"usually call their language 廣東話; Gwóngdūngwá; 'Guangdong speech' [kʷɔ̌ːŋ tʊ́ŋ wǎː]. In Guangdong and Guangxi, people also use the terms 粵語; Yuhtyúh; 'Yue language' [jỳt jy̬ː] and 白話; baahkwá [pàːk wǎː]; for example, an expression like 南寧白話; Nàahmnìhng baahkwá means 'Hundred-Yue speech of Nanning'."
Wiki stated that. And in a way, it is correct, because we call it " 廣東話" direct from when the British owned HK. So it became known as "Cantonese"... but however.... It had always been "粵語"... The "Yue Language".... It is stated as "語".. which is a "language".... whereas "話" is the speech.
In Guangxi, they call it "Yue Language"... and it should or ought to be same or similar as the Yue in HK as well. The difference between the two location is because in HK, it has the english loan words added to the Yue language as well. So therefore, the locals called it "Cantonese". Now do you get it ???
There are other "languages" inside China as well:
吳語 (Wu language) aka 上海話 (Shanghai speech).
閩語 (Min language) aka 潮汕話 (Chiu Chow/Fuijian speech). Or 咱人話 / 咱儂話.
湘語 (Xiang or Hsiang language) aka 湖南話 (Hunan speech.)
粵語 (Yue language) aka 廣東話 (Cantonese speech).
If you noticed, when people are supposed to speak "Putonghua" .... which is "普通話".... aka "Common Communication Speech".
In Taiwan (whereby they speak a lot of Hakka/Min group languages, they call it "國語"... (Because Taiwan had already created their mini "Nation"... that is why they refer their Min Nam/Hakka version as the national version. However, this isn't so in all the other regions.)
=======
"Among Chinese people, Hànyǔ (漢語; 汉语) or the "Sinitic languages" refer to all language varieties of the Han people. Zhōngwén (中文)[26] or the "Chinese written language", refers to all written languages of Chinese (Sinitic). However, gradually these two terms have been reappropriated to exclusively refer to one particular Sinitic language, the Standard Northern Mandarin, a.k.a. Standard Chinese. This imprecise usage would lead to situations in areas such as Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore as follows"
The other thing is, 漢語 (Hans language) is the term to describe the entire collection of chinese languages using the written Hans character set, both the speaking and the writing.
中文 - Is the term to describe the written Hans Language. So you could say that 中文 = "written Hans Language".....
In the past, it was the Fuijianese/Hakka speakers, especially from Singapore of from Taiwan or Malaysia, who was especially from Fuijian that stated that it was "standard chinese". Only because, when Singapore was actually created, they created their own internal language as well. To denote their own language. But this is not what it is called inside the PRC though. And it is very rude for such individuals to continue to spread this kind of rumour, and not to claim the differences in between ? Cos they split off their country and formed their own budgets, and such likes. So....

@timetraveller2300 : I am a chinese descendent, and is more chinese, than you are chinese. This is the problem though... and you don't realise this aspect of yourself... whereas other countries have quickly moved forward because they sacrificed. Did you sacrificed? No, you didn't... and because nobody sacrificed... people are arrogant. Whereas my ancestors sacrificed as well. We worked abroad, and swapped for money, and we sent those money back home. So as to uplift your living standards... what did you sacrifice today ? What did you do ???

This is what has been said.. in San Franciso recently... whereby it had a lot of Cantonese that moved there during the last gold rush and things like that. Even my family, similar, but we came to the UK... creating a stability and world peace after that. You guys in Singapore and Malaysia, has NO SAY... in how you run HK.. and has NO SAY... in how Cantonese can and cannot do... Cos we gave back. Right to that same spot. So you don't get to go and break up those relationships as well. And don't assume that you could also stuff those money, into your own personal pockets either !!! And DO NOT ... assume that it was "Singapore's money"... that made HK as well.. Cos it has ALL been documented !!!!!!
CAN Insider have published a LOT.... recently !!! So therefore, their words, discredit those individuals' personal voices.. as in those arrogant ones that often say..."WE MADE YOU"... That is BS. You made NOTHING.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqRJYOrlKqE&t=1088s
Now that CNA Insider published that "blackmail moment" in British history.. which made itself, what it is today... And then Singapore slyly edged to connect with China, with the PRC... and arrogantly.. discredit the disporas from oversea's as well...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVcpZsem_lw&list=PLK7qCnafFFJb4XxCU_5gP5uuRbp2u_gQa&index=47
Remittances that went back from the US into HK and into China.. indirectly uplifting its situation, and moved it away from hyperinflation, as the continuous war and infighting that went on inside the PRC... And affecting the currency's markets and rates, and without actual control... And made people in an even worst state. Don't you think that we know ? Even Xi... is now.. ready to be cordial.. cos he doesn't know who is friend, and who is foe. And yes, even the inside the PRC... many individuals are super mad too. They're made alright.
