As much as Cyrus "thinks" that it is acceptable, for an individual, to move from their own home and hukuo... to Shanghai. That couple's is actually classified as "migrants".... in the past, the chinese terms are "Hakka"... "Guest families"... i.e. a family, fled from their own hometowns, and into your hometown. I should not say "hometowns".. but they are "your LAND" !!! Nobody, in Europe... can trespass, into someone else's private land. Nobody. Cos this is also illegal. If the owners did not caught you, then this is something, but if they did catch you. Then yes, they have the right to kill you. (In the UK, we cannot shoot, but they can go to the court and sue you. Or they can call the police, to take you away, off their land.) Same in the US. People tend to shoot you, than to call the police that you are trespassing.
People like Cyrus.. assuming too much.... and is twisting the China's model, into the US model. Cos China signed onto the WTO. NO is NO. It is not ready, and it is not possible !!!

They, themselves are no longer Hans. Some people say, within the Hans culture, this is possible... They are still Hans. But ask yourself.. are they really ? Some of these were tribes. But without order... or structure found in Hans society. Is following this now make them their own tribe, or have they converted into Hans ?? (What people do not know is that, the Northern areas... some were actually white caucasians... and over time, they integrated with Hans DNA.. and turned "middle xia" aka Chinese. Why do you think that the foreign minister often use the terms "Hua/Xia" ??? 官话 means "Mandarin". It means, the language spoken within the imperial palace. It is "palace language". Back in the days... people were not able to enter the imperial palaces... Cos it is only those who were invited, or found a way to be let in, then they were in.
This "republic" period, has killed off... so many people in China.. it has absolutely just... atrocious. Really atrocious... All in the name of "economics"... They threw away their heritages... and just lost their families heirloom and sold their souls.

@Shenzhou. : It is a language rule. Whereas, you actually did a "ping yum" action on the writing itself, and "tried" to translate word for word. But you cannot do that. Cos it comes across as losing the meaning ! This is why, when Cyrus here says "Mandarin is a NATIONAL" language, you can see ALL of the SE Asians.. those outside of mainland, and outside of HK, has MISUNDERSTOOD !!! Goodness me. One single wrong translation, provokes anger, aggressive, bullying, and deliberate misleading context ! He is doing a "畫蛇天竹" !! Now, do you understand ?! I think that, classic traditional Chinese study, needs to be brought back into the mainland. Seriously... cos you guys have absolutely no actual understanding of something... And the rating for education, has gone down in HK as well. Even though, their previous generation's standard, was actually "like for like", as if the learner is exactly born in those countries. And now, with these so called "teachers", who does not know how things are themselves anyway... Tries to teach. Blind leading the blind comes to mind. There is a lot of "giving face" to students in China. This is a given. However... the world has already moved on any way.... So it is not necessary to "learn like a local" any more. Cos others do not want to trade as much any more. People can still manage without really getting such deep knowledge. Just a general skill to be able to further educate, IF you need to, is already good enough. Learn to be able to read, and write, in chinese, or in English, is good enough. By that, I do not mean "ping yum". I mean, to be able to read a piece of writing, and understand it 100%. Not to understand it 20%, or think what you understand, and add the extra 30%, to make 130%.

Isn't it funny that you assume I am not chinese. I am Cantonese, from Hong Kong. So yes, last of those descendents from genuine Hans, and not of Mongolian bloodlines. And it is funny that you say this:

So much for people lying on the internet. Go back to school. The Japanese, and Koreans are descendents of Hans China.. so why would they not have this in their DNA make up ??? "Their ethnicity" ?? The reason why they are called Japanese, and Koreans is because they split family from the mainland. And they do not allow anyone to enter their Kingdom. So then they interbreed amongst themselves. (A good example of how migrants have moved to a location, and taken their language with them. This is Sun Yat Sen's hometown. It should be part of the Yue family tree, but some migrants from Fuijian, have taken the Min language into the location, and cross-bred both languages into one. So some colloquial understanding is there. If you really listen, it can be assumed as "Hakka"....Which is the Min family tree.)
Looking at this alone, it can show you, what kind of languages have been eroded away... and slowly, some of the migrants, who took their own language with the, has ALSO been eroded away !! You left China. And those overseas chinese, should not actually listen to media channels that is not projecting their own language, cos then they would never learn. This is the problem. I am from Canton, and I listen to Cantonese songs. This is GOOD. Other regions have started to do the same too. i.e. Protect their own languages.

I can tell that she speaks another language, and it is nothing close to Chinese. It has another layer in there somewhere. Her translated words... "I wish I could speak Xibe"... She is pampering and kowtowing to those who cannot speak her language in her own hometown. So she make concession to those newcomers. Even in doing so, the state, or the educational sector tried to dumb down and play down her language ? So how come they do not promote some of these locals, into being teachers. Into being politicians. Into promoting and strengthening her own identities, as well as their own languages and speakings ? And why not even go as far as translating books from other languages INTO their own ?! This should be what happens !!!! And not to learn "mandarin" as a standard....

Yes, but the people who set the speech was not, and did not communicate with the people who set the immigration, and the working groups and the migrations... The assumption is that, these people can have carte blanche anyway to do what they like. But the reality is, many people do not accept this. The point raised that, introducing the simplified format (which helps the Northerners increase their speech and education level ) would alienate those in the South, like HK or Macau, and even Taiwan... cos it erodes the historical language development. Just cos the Manchus, or the Mongols did not know, the Hans and the Tang dynastic development, and the "ping yum" system. i.e. Practice the caligraphic writing, and use two tones to logically derive the sound. The old dictionaries for Hans chinese writing still follow this logic. I bet this has been eradicated now, or pushed to some stupid "university level", when that was THE BASIC school level back in the 1950s, 60s, 70s and even 1980s !!! Those scholars never got this kind of salaries that people get today ! Even if they knew MORE !!! The arrogant sods of this youthful generation now..... Asses !!!

You have to remember this, many "Western concepts and academia", was written by Westerners,... and not with Eastern academia...or from Eastern scholars. What you talk about, I accept. Cos... even take me, as an example... I am from HK. That is, the indigenous families of HK. Which had around 600 families at that time when the British took over. Some of us, were living there, even before the Ming dynasty collapsed. "Punti" (which is an odd English word... but it means... "locals"...you can see why this kind of mis-translation went on, can't you ? Cos during the English pinyin, there did not exist an actual formal system to pinyin with.).... ... which are the locals.. There was the locals.. and then there was a first migration wave.. of the Hans chinese... And then a second migration wave.. of Hakka.. This was that period of the Hakka (migrants) and Punti (local) war... They fought. What does this piece of history tells you ? It tells you that, during Ming dynasty rule, when Hans people still existed. There are actual rules to separate people, and regions. Crossing over from one area to another is not allowed. This is why those specific people were called "hak-ka" (guest families). --- I do not know, how THAT description, have led some people, in modern day 2020, to believe that "Hakka" was a "race" of people. Er... no !... Some of these "hakka" spoke "Wu"... as a language.. or they spoke differently. We need proper linguists.. to analyse, whether some of these so called words were... actually formal.. or actually... systemically mis-interpreted.
