  12. You should never 'not vote at all'. People died to get me the vote, so I have to use it. When Corbyn was Leader of the Labour Party and there was a General Election, I spoiled my paper, writing on it why I was not voting for anyone on the ballot paper. That is (so far) the only time I have done that.

  13. Computerisation and Artificial Intelligence will eliminate even more jobs. You can have an expanding economy without an expanding labour force, now. I think Karl Marx did not foresee this. Most workers - surgeons, lawyers, journalists and others - will become redundant. It won't just be manual labourers and agricultural workers. The traditional thing to do if you are intelligent and feel locked out of the labour force is to become a successful criminal.

  21. One issue I take with Ms McLatchie-Miller is the use of the term 'gender'. This term, like 'feminine' or 'masculine' has no place outside a book of grammar. Biological entities do not have a gender. They have a sex - female or male. This is determined at fertilisation and cannot be changed. Please do not talk about 'extreme gender ideology'. There is no NON-extreme 'gender' ideology.

It's not just the apparent shenanigans that went on between the Labour Party and the Speaker on Wednesday that we need to worry about - and there is no doubt in my mind that both Lindsay Hoyle and Keir Starmer must now resign their positions - possibly even as MPs. What worries me even more, is the reason Lindsay Hoyle gave for his actions: apparently, he wanted to protect MPs - especially Labour MPs - whom he thought were particularly vulnerable - from abuse, threats, physical attack, or even murder from constituents or others, if they were deemed to have voted the 'wrong' way, ie pro-Israeli policy and against Hamas. Meanwhile a shouting, chanting, Palestine-flag waving mob of thousands was screaming just outside Parliament telling MPs how to vote. This is called mob rule. Our democratic process has been hijacked by a threatening, potentially violent sectrian minority and their Useful Idiot supporters. What should we do about this?

  37. Dear Panel, I see you are all wearing poppies (it is 2 November 2024). I have, for as long as I can remember, bought poppies from ex-servicemen/women selling them, from the beginning of November, and worn them - I usually had to buy at least one per day as I always lost them - until 11 November. However, this year I see that the British Legion have employed a DIE (Diversity, Inclusion, Equity) Officer for £80,000 per annum, and have also produced a disrespectful travesty of a poppy which incorporates the 'Progress Pride flag'. So, until the British Legion purges itself of the Queer Theorists who appear to be in charge, there will be no more money from me. I would also like to see a detailed breakdown of the British Legion's income and expenditure account and their balance sheet, and an explanation of why British veterans are homeless or are suffering from PTSD.

But, as a person of working-class origin, I find his generalisations about working-class people patronising in the extreme. Apparently we are totally scientificay illiterate - we 'don't give a stuff about climate change or GM foods (what the heck are they?)'. This reminds me of Remainiacs equating Eurosceptics with 'xenophobes, Fascists, Nazis and racists', and assuming that we are, being working-class, incapable of reading Joseph Stiglitz ('The Euro') or Yanis Varoufakis ('Adults in the room'). I (state-educated) have been called a Fascist by 'The New Statesman' (I am guessing most of the employees were expensively educated) for correcting their grammar. I fear Martin Durkin is in danger of stereotyping in the same way.

  46. It's not 'equality' that is the object, as in 'equality of opportunity' or 'equality before the law - one law for all, everyone equal before the law' - I WISH! NO, it is Equity that is the object, and that is what the E in DIE stands for. That is, equality of OUTCOME, meaning something totally different, and even opposed to the above concepts of 'equality'.

  48. It's millions of years since I did Latin, but as I remember, the Romans conjugated their verbs and so did not need pronouns. For example, 'amat' means 'he loves or she loves'. You can tell by the context which it is. 'Amant' means 'they love'. I am open to correction by Mary Beard.🙂

  49. It's not the doubling of the probability of the manifestation of genetic abnormalities with ONE cousin-cousin marriage occurring, say, every 250 years, that is normally the problem. A far greater problem is caused by cousin-cousin marriage generation after generation, when the marriage partners may have become more closely genetically matched than siblings who are not monozygotic twins. This lays the door open to multiple abnormal recessive genes - which we all have - being expressed phenotypically.

The judge ruled that the commercial confidentiality interests of the contracted provider of the material to the school overrode the public interest, and the parent therefore had no right to know. The mother went to Court after the school had refused to show her the material. She wanted to know the details after her 15-year-old said they had been told in sex and relationship class that 'hetero-normativity' was undesirable, and that people ought to be 'sex positive'.
