Think of the millions of dollars people in other countries have saved on living expenses over the years thanks to affordable Chinese goods. Money saved that can then be spent on finer things like cars, houses, getting married or on things like school fees, college tuition, doctor's bills.

I mean, you are the one claiming China's automotive industry will never surpass Japan, but when I brought up how China's hi-speed railway industry surpassed Japan, you just dismissed it, even though China was initially behind Japan in hi-speed railway development. The US imposed additional conditions on China and when China joined the WTO, we agreed to considerably harsher conditions than other developing countries at that time. So why you think China did not put such promises into practice? Isn't China's economy today much more open than it was prior to joining WTO? Even now, President Trump just unilaterally slap sanctions on steel and aluminum, all without going through the proper WTO channels, so isn't USA the one not upholding WTO promises here? I mentioned high speed railway, because it is an area in which China has successfully surpassed Japan. You are the one claiming China's automotive industry will never surpass Japan, then where is your proof? China already surpassed Japan in other fields like hi-speed railway, so what makes you think China's automotive industry will never surpass Japan?

I never mentioned anything about "technology transfer" so why should I provide proof of China's automotive industry will surpass Japan without technology transfer? In addition to gunpowder, ancient Chinese invented handcannons, handgrenades, fragmentation bombs, landmines, naval mines, exploding cannonballs, rocket launchers, etc, but if Westerners took those designs and improved on them, then why does originality still matters? It's your own opinion that originality matters of course, but in real life, if other designs can greatly improve on the original design then originality itself does not matter, as history has shown. People have been copying and improving on other people's original designs for much of history and that is how society progresses as a whole.

Also, there are some wealthy Chinese who get filthy rich in China through corruption, and escape to other countries to buy up property, so the money can't be trace back to them, during the anti-corruption crackdown.
