@GM-fh5jp They did indeed find themselves master of the eastern Indian ocean for the short time they were there, but as I said they almost immediately withdrew due to the perimeter of sea they were trying to control being beyond their means. The RN on the other hand kept control of the Arctic, North Atlantic (with the RCN), South Atlantic, Mediterranean, Indian, and eventually projected into the Pacific, on outside lines of comms & supply. The Japanese controlled half the pacific on internal lines of comms and suppply, and found that it couldn't expand further.
(P.S I know about the RN losses, my own father was a survivor of HMS Dorsetshire, sunk on April 5th south of India, he also took part in the rescues of the Bismarck survivors a year earlier).
