Prior to the Denmark Strait engagement there was every reason to expect that HMS Hood would have given as good as she took, though the fickle hand of fate ensured that was not how it finally played out. I too owned models in the 1970s of all the major ships involved in this escapade, and I can testify first hand that NONE of them had armour suffient to prevent the penetration of multiple .177 air rifle pellets at the end of their "active service" (as my toys)!!!!

  7. The Volga was a considerable obstacle to be crossing at thte end of a VERY precarious supply line, and the terrain east of the river at that point is marshland for hundreds of miles. The Soviets held the only road leading to Stalingrad from the east, the rest being impassible, like the Pripet marshes in Byelorussia / Ukraine.

  14. Well the Bf-110 was designed as a long range escort fighter. Its just that it was really rubbish in that role and ended up on occasions being escorted itself by Bf-109s. It had a haymaker of a punch, but was so lackluster in its acceleration and manoeuvrability that it was incredibly lucky to get into a position to land hits with its fearsome armament.

To find the reason why the video will have so many dislikes simply read through the comments section below. There is an engineered dislike of Great Britain, mainly because we had the largest and most humane empire in human history and nobody likes those who have been at the very top, and will always enjoy pissing on them on the way down.... but as I say, it is better to be British and have lost, than to have been a Belgian for the whole of eternity.

  19.  @bronsonperich9430  If you read my response above, you will see that he arrived in the UK in OCTOBER 1940 as an unqualified pilot candidate at the very end of the battle of Britain, though he was in Britain during the blitz that followed. Not that he and his fellow Indian trainee pilots would have seen much bombing, they were undergoing their initial pilot training at Prestwick (near Glasgow) then RAF Hullavington (in Wiltshire), followed by "operational conversion" at RAF Sutton Bridge (in Lincolnshire), before fully qualifying as RAF pilots in April 1941.

There is much ongoing debate about the nationalities and proportions of RAF fighter pilots who took part in the battle, with occasionally a furtive aspect which attempts to portray the battle as a victory of "mostly Foreign pilots". Below is an accurate graphical representation of the proportion of pilot nationalities serving within RAF Fighter Command during the summer of 1940.   28.  @HeavenlyWarrior  I've spoken English all of my 56 years, and come from a family which has had numerous sailors and dock workers in its midst, and I've always heard a ship refered to using the feminine pronoun (though very occasionally as you say the ungendered pronoun "it" being used instead), that's not to say that other cultures & languages don't have their own customs, but for British people ships have always used the feminine pronoun, it is also the case in the German speaking world, hence why Captain Lindemann first decreed that Bismarck should not be considered feminine, precisely because it is the usual custom in Germany as well, (with "Die" instead of "Der" being the usual prefix for ships). It seems all this current "gender pronoun nonsense" is trying to push its evil insidious way into maritime custom.

For example we would say "the sun", French would say "Le soleil" (masculine) and Germans would say "Die Sonne" (feminine), but customarily in Britain ships have for centuries been attributed with the female pronoun, I'm not sure of the origin of that, but my guess is that in possibly less enlightened times a ship would have been seen as the sailor's guardian, and a place of safety and so spiritually IT may have been seen as a "mother figure" protective of HER "sailor children", but that is purely my guess. Could I ask what is your native tongue as your written English, at least, is very good.

Britain still thanks Poland at every remembrance day parade across the country to this day. We appreciate the 58.5 confirmed kills that 303 Sqd contributed to the 2900 luftwaffe aircraft destroyed during the Battle of Britain, incl the 17 scored by the Czechoslovakian ace Josef František who flew with 303 Sqd. Also take note that 303 sqd were not "all Polish pilots", as well as Josef František I've already mentioned, the squadron commander and most of the flight commanders were British during the battle of Britain. 2. With regard to the 1946 Victory parade when it came to Britain handing out the national invites to all of the countries that had fought on the side of the Allies in WW2, The British Labour government of Clement Attlee handed the Polish invitation to the Warsaw based Polish provisional government of national unity (which was after all the official government of Poland, as recognised by the United Nations). The now effectively powerless & stateless nationalist Polish government in exile based in London took great offence at their sidelining in this matter, and raised a torrent of indignation that was backed by many British MPs and ordinary people. A few days before the parade was due to take place a belated invitation was sent both to the Polish Govt in Exile in London as well as directly to various Polish generals who had fought with the allies, ALL of who felt so disgusted with the perceived disrespect shown by the INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY (I.E being made to play "second fiddle" to the official Warsaw Polish government) that they CHOSE not to attend the parade. And the final ignomy? The Soviet backed Warsaw government neither acknowledged the British invite, or attended the parade either. Britain sacrificed 450000 of her citizens in a war started to aid Poland which, due to her quick conquest, evolved into a meatgrinder of a war to topple her oppressors. At war's end it was the treachery of Britain's "enemy's enemy" (Josef Stalin) that strangled any possibility of a postwar democratic Poland. The western allies were reluctant to start WW3 in a central Europe already bled white by 6 years of murderous tyranny and warfare, a WW3 entailing probably millions more deaths that would have been necessary to remove the 12.4 million strong red army from the countries of Eastern Europe. Oops, Bi Ling !!! You've forgotten to tell us how YOU would have removed the 12.4 million strong red army from central & Eastern Europe?
