Russia cannot win in Ukraine for the same reason the US and the Soviet Union couldn't win in Afghanistan and other countries, why Russia couldn't keep Eastern Europe, why Britain couldn't retain her empire. There will always been resistance against imperialist invaders by the local peoples.

I don't believe Russia deliberately targeted the hospital, but bellingcat's analysis of the video of the missile ("Russian missile identified in Kyiv children's hospital attack") makes it beyond doubt that it was a kh-101. I assume that, unlike other supporters of Russia, you don't claim that the deaths and injuries of civilians on the beach near Servastopol was a deliberate attack?

  36.  @johnwi-l_l-iamsf3763  that's 54,000 confirmed by name, which is known to be an undercount by a wide margin. BBC estimates of Russian kia are around 100,000. Other agencies estimates around 150,000 KIA with total Russian casualties (KIA, wounded, missing) estimated around 500,000.

They revolted against their president, as did their parliament, after Yanukovych announced that he was going back on his promise to get Ukraine into the EU. An association agreement had been agreed, which Yanukovych, after a chat with Putin, refused to sign, instead announcing that Ukraine would instead join the Eurasian Economic Union, an economic alliance currently composed of 5 former Soviet states. Here's the shocker, Ukrainians didn't throw their president out on behalf of the US, they threw him out on behalf of themselves. The narrative you've bought into is straight from the Kremlin. The US didn't have any resources in Ukraine to remove a president, and Victoria Nuland doesn't have super-villain mind control powers that enable her to control hundreds of thousands of people, causing them to revolt against their elected president. It was Yanukovych's own actions that led to his downfall.

  42. @Lili Dežman  you offer nothing that supports your conclusion, the Soviet Union and the US were far stronger than Russia today, especially if we compare their strength to that of Afghanistan and compare Russia's strength to that of a nato armed and trained Ukraine. The same applies if we compare Israel's strength with its adversaries back then. Ultimately the motivation of the people of a country is a major factor. The Russian motivation has been noticeably lacking compared to that of Ukrainians. Putin's own strategy in this war is a demonstration of this. If the Russian people were committed to the "special military operation" Putin would have called up all the men required to defeat Ukraine from the start, Instead he's even avoided calling it a war and passed laws banning Russia's from calling it a war. He's done this because he doesn't think Russians are motivated enough to commit to the conflict enmass, Ukrainians clearly are committed to the defense of their country. Russia is going to lose. Russia has had one arm tied behind its back by Putin from the start, while Ukraine has been supplied with a lot of extra military muscle.

  43.  @riccccccardo  there was no one able to "finish" the US. The global response to a Russian use of nukes in Ukraine is probably beyond your imagination, but it's not beyond Putin's imagination. China has, for example, told Russia that its use of nukes is unacceptable, and no other country in the world (other than North Korea) wants the use of nukes to become politically acceptable through Russian use being accepted.

  45.  @hicm1of12  I think your figure of hundreds of pac-3 missiles being fired is way off, the pac-3 is specialized to intercept high velocity missiles on a ballistic trajectory, they're just not suitable for low altitude cruise missiles and drones, the iris-t and Gepard and similar systems are the defensive platforms they'll be using for those, pac-3 would, I expect, be saved for iskander, S300, S400 and kinzhal.

  46.  @rodiculous9464  when Wagner first became involved in the battle for Bakhmut they were fighting on an 80km wide front, over the last few months their numbers have been so depleted that in the last weeks all they were fighting was a front 5km wide, with the rest of the fighting around Bakhmut being put in the hands of Russian regular and "elite" forces. Pregozhin has confirmed the huge loses Wagner has suffered. While Wagner continued to go forward in Bakhmut the other Russian forces have been losing ground on the flanks around the city. Wagner is the ONLY unit on the Russian side that's been moving forward for many months.
