  2. Beautiful house that really look more like a comfortable home than some of the bigger more ornate houses did! I agree it needs to be restored, and opened to the public. Military should put some money into, in the name of history and preservation!

  3. This is one house that I like every room and how its comfortable without being over stated! Even the outside does remind you in some ways of the river boats like you said! So glad its preserved! I waited with baited breath because I feared it might have been lost! So glad it survives!

  8. I love San Simeon! It stands on such much land, that at one time it took 20 minutes to drive from the entrance to the house!

  12. I hope a lot of the chairs and other antiques had been sold off before the boiler explosion! I can't imagine Louis XV furniture burning up! That would be heartbreaking !

  19. What an incredible place! The fireplace in the ballroom! I wonder if it was saved or maybe it was just too big! As beautiful as they are, these houses where excessive and really took a lot of money to keep up!

  24. If there was one house that should still be around today this should have been it! Tragic a fire had to destroy that place! At least some of the Glass was saved! But imagine what was lost!

  27. Amazing architecture! Toronto Old City Hall built in 1899, by Edward James Lennox, was done in the Richardsonian Romanesque style ! That is why Glessner House looked so familiar to me!

  38. When buying a historic or older house, you have to look out for a bunch of important things! Is the foundation intact! Are there any leaks or cracks that are evident! The roof is so important! How old is it...are there any leaks! The wiring...is it new....is there any old knob and tube...is it aluminum or copper wiring, what amperage is the panel? Get a home inspection from a valid and accredited inspector! Its worth every penny!
