I think by telling the Wife Unit to use your Silverado, you may have opened a new can of worms. She is never gonna be happy driving the van after a taste of driving the truck. Maybe it's time to take her shopping for a suburban or Tahoe or Escalade to give her that big machine feeling and to safely transport your family about. Of course gas is a new issue when moving up, but the comfort of knowing your wife unit and child units and dog unit are safe during their travels is priceless. Plus it will make for a better family traveling experience.

Where do you get the insulation and the new carpet from?

Glad to see you broke out the heat gun. I cringe 😬 when I see the lighter used. It works okay, just that I prefer to use the heat gun. Probably from doing electronic repairs most of my life.😊

I am curious what motivated the customer to get this up to date from its ancient status? Maybe it was a garage find or a relative left it to them?

I wonder if the department pays for services or the officer pays for it out of a vehicle allowance? It might be a great vehicle to watch for at the end of service when the vehicles get auctioned off. I used to buy used vehicles from utilities and government for a low price, but I was never sure of their condition and maintenance. Back when Maui, Hawaii had a sugar company, they periodically sold off their old vehicles. Mostly ford rangers. The sugar workers beat the heck out of them in muddy fields, but I did service work on their two way radios, installs and removals. Plus I knew the mechanics pretty well and could get some insight into which ones might be a good buy. Probably 80 to 90 percent were just too used up to bother with. Inside and outside might get trashed. Supervisors vehicles tended to be the better ones. A lot of times, the person that drove it and kept it clean, would bid on it and make it their personal vehicle.

Put a shop vac or your evacuation machine on the outside end of the tube and suck it out under pressure.

The semi-flippity floppity brake pedal on my cars gives me something to tap on with my feet to the sound of the music playing as I am driving.

I used to frown on talking to myself and look at others as crazy. Now I talk to my dog all day long, as well as my chickens, duck and goose. Doing YouTube's around my luffa farming, I do more talking to my self, along the realm of Ray. The only listeners are if they see my content on YouTube or Facebook. I rather like talking to myself. Except I'm talked out at the end of the day. Good thing I have no wife unit, she would feel neglected as I talk all day to myself and not to her.

I've been preoccupied the last few days, watching the coverage of Lahaina town on Maui, Hawaii burning down. I grew up and spent most of my life on Maui, but on the rain forest side, not Lahaina. Just so sad to see hundreds of years of history being wiped clean. My saving grace in all of this is working on replacing my Kia cross arms and a cv axle, in between watching the last few videos that Ray has put out. It is a much needed distraction right now and fixing cars puts me in my happy place. It's so crazy that so much can be lost forever in the blink of an eye.

87,000 miles and driveshaft grease dries out? What the heck? It seems like the drive train should last much longer.

I need compressed air badly. Small things like blowing messy stuff away, really makes it worth having one.

14:39 The question in my mind is whether you will put those clamps back facing the bottom? Knowing your preference for putting them back as found. I guess I will wait to see. There is a point to doing it either way.

The scene with your daughter would be a good short.

What I like about this is that working on my own cars, I've thought about a better way to bleed brakes and now I got to see one in action. Time to go get a fluid exchange with the wife unit, jobs over.

Using my last can of this brand brake cleaner on fixing my mower and letting the excess fill an oil change pan and despite being outside, the fumes are crazy. Between the fumes and just what it does to my skin and internals, I think I need a safer alternative.

@Flies2FLL 😆 had to look that one up. "The "Fetzer valve", when Lucinda the mechanic is giving the Sheriff her findings about Mona's car, she says the "Fetzer valve" had been punctured. A "Fetzer valve" is a fictional part of an engine, introduced in the movie Fletch (1985). Helpful•43. 1. Every character's automobile has personalized plates."

😮End of transmission! Thanks for clearing that up. I kept thinking you broke a lot of transmissions😅.

Can someone explain to me about that yellow extension that Ray uses with his impact to install the lug nuts?
1
@bryanwilliams847 how does it apply the right amount of torque? If so, then why is it also torqued with a torque wrench. I'm still missing something here.
1
I wonder if there is an option or addon for a lift that could pick up just the front of a big truck or rear, while the other half remains in the ground, instead of trying to lift the whole vehicle.

Nothing like a nice new blue gasket to make me smile.😊

Is there one for my 2004 Dodge Dakota 4.7l?

Looks like milk all over.

Sure would like to see a video of you editing a video to upload on YouTube. Editing and piecing together everything, slipping in short video and picture clips. As well as, doing voice overs. I've done a few videos and tried to do some editing to create one video, but you seem to not only do all the video work, you can finish them up to play on YouTube.

I sure would love to watch someone actually design an engine of this sort. How the heck they figure out placement, shapes, bolts and then go on to figure out how to cast these parts, is beyond me. I can see where engines are basically the same and just configured with a variety of optional parts that are designed to fit most of engines used, but with the competition to come up with their own design and configuration leaves us with a whole variety of different engines and barely any parts that are compatible with others.

As much as you are part of 472 thousand fans and average 10's and 20's thousand comments, you still operate in sort of a one way communication mode. It's great to be able to hang and host some friends and do some two way communicating. Although you need to Mic your company's so we can hear them.

Does your shop do safety or state inspections? Hawaii we called them safety, but Virginia calls them state inspections.

Want to see the autopsy of that engine.
1
Yup, I just charged mine, finished watching the video after this and switched this one and I'm at 60% already.

While I don't think my Kia Sportage has a rodent hole in the intake, post mass air flow sensor, I did remove the intake to replace the valve cover gaskets and just clean and gap my previously replaced spark plugs. Since then, I have a bunch of check engine codes relating to the O2 sensors and running lean and fuel trim. I happened to have four new O2 sensors and changed bank 2 while I did a radiator replacement. Unfortunately, I got them after the intake manifold was removed and replaced and the bank 1 sensor 1 O2 is going to require pulling the intake to get to it. I suspect the engine is saying its running kean, because it has more air than is being metered and thinks that the fuel is lean. The first time the intake was removed, there were air leaks and a mechanic removed and resealed it to correct the problem. I made every effort to avoid having any air leaks when reinstalling the intake, but I do suspect that I still missed a spot. I made a makeshift smoke machine using a fog generator from Halloween and the output of a shop vac to supply air pressure and didn't see any smoke leaking, but it was not the best way to test. I just hate to have to remove the intake and reseal and reinstall it. The car actually runs pretty good, but has the check engine light illuminated. It did on a few occasions run rough and misfire at low rpm to idle. .

Hmm, I have that same battery booster. Never really worked very well. I finally replaced the battery and it's so so. The air pump quit almost right away. I don't have much luck with them. I also have a couple brands of the small lithium boosters. They won't start a car either. Getting tired of buying them. Also those cheapy 12v air pumps. I have a few dead ones also.
1
@RainmanRaysRepairs yep, jumper cables too. I've had a bunch and there wasn't enough wire to carry the current. especially aluminum ones.
1
Variable timing. Is that an invention that was needed or just something to complicate a vehicle?
1
And you didn't even have to break out a laptop. This truck reminds me of common vehicles in Hawaii. When I moved to Virginia, I hardly ever see an old car, unless someone happens to come into the city from outside. I was amazed that so many people could afford new cars here. My new car includes a 2004 Dodge Dakota that I bought new and has come along from Maui, to Oregon and now Virginia. My other new to me cars are a 2001 PT Cruiser and a 2004 Kia Sportage. Having all sorts of fun working on them.

What is with that pneumatic chisel? I've seen several of your videos that have the chisel flying of the gun. Don't they lock on or something? I had one once upon a time, but used it for taking ceramic tiles off my shower wall.
1
When the bolt was just beginning to turn, I wonder if using the neumatic chisel in it to vibrate and loosen the rust, would work?
1
Do you quote based on your guides or just for an estimate, but still open to being more?
1
My firsthough at the beginning, when talking about the keaning Canadian truck was, is the driver 300lbs? Made me think of some very heavy big boys driving around Maui when I was in high school. The whole car or truck leaned. Often the springs and seats were permanently compressed. This is a real factor. Guess I will watch on and see what you find.
1
Are those crackling noises coming from the truck during the test run?
1
As if an engine isn't hard enough to get to, let's stick it under the cab and by the seat to really make it fun.
1
Not that enough people haven't already said it. Both bulbs in to work properly.
1
Is that an apprentice working under you? Kind of annoying to have to explain things and people are naturally driven to want to come up with the working answer to a problem. Having been on both sides of that fence, apprentice and foreman/boss, it's a hard situation.

The key is in the angle...

25:04 I like your bandage. I have had more than I can remember. Mostly consisting of paper towels and electric tape. It wasn't until I got older and was put on blood thinners that I invested in full band aid kits. My granddaughter is my nurse, usually carrying band aids with her to patch me up while we are in the yard and garden.
1
With plastic hangers taking over, it's good to build an arsenal of wire hangars for various purposes.
1
15:03 an awful lot of heavy duty heat sinking and such, for something that just works a bunch of lights.
1
Is the starter button an aftermarket thing?
1
It would be nice to have a wash pit or a lift outside that you could use to power wash underneath vehicles. 6:24 this is one that could definitely benefit from a good under chassis and engine wash. Maybe that's a business for people to drive in and wash underneath, not like the car washes offer, but a good degreasing type. Then hire a good publicist/phycology major to get Americans to believe they should wash where they can't see.
