That's monstrously stupid. I hope he didn't actually say that.
2
Sleipher That is complete bullshit. I can grant you all the gods you want, but there would still have been abiogenesis at some point. You are just adding extra steps. You are making the explanation harder for no reason whatsoever.
2
You are fucking dumb, man. The simulation hypothesis is not an explanation, you moron. It's an extrapolation.
2
>The universe knows that it exists, and we are proof of that. No. Two atoms as a system being conscious is different from each atom being conscious on their own. Similarly you being conscious and the "universe" being conscious are different things.
2
Those of your ancestors, who didn't want to survive, had fewer offspring.
2
How do we know we are not in a minecraft mod?!
2
Liu Cixin has a series of fiction books. He didn't make a formal argument. It's highly dubitable whether a "Dark Forest" scenario is realistic.
2
@andrewhsu7538 I stopped halfway through the second book, because the aliens got pretty dumb and the story lingered very long on some sub-plot about an imaginary woman. Maybe I should pick it back up some time. Maybe what's stupid about the aliens is just a red herring.
2
@adamzen1620 Not sure what that's supposed to mean. They tried to keep humanity from funding more science by confusing them. But that's not really "using the laws of physics as weapons".
2
@andrewhsu7538 You do realize that people actually write scientific articles and textbooks about this kind of stuff? If you're just interested in speculation about extraterrestrial civilizations, you don't have to read specific sci fi books.
2
No, he didn't. And mice would greatly benefit from having mouse traps to trap other mice.
2
Every time after masturbating. "Thank you, allah, for all of this nettle fisting porn!"
2
Everything in the world influences evolution.
2
@dragonreborn56789 >non-deterministic, consequential "behavior" does a rock show Rocks are more non-deterministic in their behavior than you are. The decay of their radio-isotopes is as non-deterministic as it gets. >They don't have the ability to make meaningful decisions. "Meaningful" decision is meaningless and if not, then most people aren't making meaningful decisions either. >Computers don't make deliberate decisions, though. They follow deterministic procedure No, they often use random actions. >the programmers made the decisions when they write the program No, otherwise it wouldn't be such a pain in the ass to predict the behavior of a system and test it. Not to mention machine learning.
2
Alphabet invests a lot into biotechnology.
2
Wouldn't be any better than Christianity or Islam. Probably worse because it is utterly irreconcilable with evolution and it's main tenant is victim blaming.
2
Not even close. I don't think even the entire military budget would suffice for the 1000$ basic income.
2
A soul doesn't explain anything about consciousness, it just adds a further complication.
2
Discipline and patience are as harmful as they are useful. They alliw you to waste arbitrarily much time for nothing. If you have infinite discipline, you can work hard everyday and stay miserable throughout. You need to be disciplined AND evaluate whether your actions actually maximize your long term well being.
2
Coffein is a drug and it is in all tea, not just black tea. Sugar is an essential nutrient and no drug.
2
Enlightenment is advertised as the ultimate cope, which makes all other copes superfluous.
2
We can't. The video was already extremely alarmist, but it still made it clear that everyone wouldn't die. You simply paid zero attention to the video and substituted your own fables.
2
That means starvation. The last animals including you will die when you cannot find any star to provide enough energy for your survival. There is no grand finale, just very slow suffocation.
2
No, he didn't. And that's a really dumb thing to say in dozens of ways.
2
Or smaller.
2
@T3HR3PP4 Yes, they would, because people would stop breeding them.
2
No. Consciousness is the phenomenon of first hand experience. For all we know it is just as present in cats and dogs. In particular it has nothing to do with your pretentious superficialities.
2
@VeryRGOTI That's 100% wrong. Vaping is WAY, WAY less harmful than smoking.
2
Good candidate. But I say it's our ability to strangle other animals with our strong, nimble arms.
2
Perhaps you should watch the video again, because crispr involves no "mutation" whatsoever.
2
No, it's not.
2
@IrishWhiskeyisLife You age slower if you accelerate in the car rather than someone not accelerated. That's basically the "twin paradox" setting.
2
To blame a victim for the actions of his tormentors is wicked in the highest degree. Whether that comes from a religion or a Sci-Fi author.
2
No, brains are very inefficient. My smartphone is a lot more powerful, just less adapted to specific functions like image recognition.
2
Your muscles and bones don't need to be as strong when there is lower gravity. Also why should moon citizens care about what the ethics board has to say?
2
None of these are problems with GMOs.
1
Yes and when you eat wood, your children will be strong and firm.
1
These kinds of conspiracy theories are pretty much defined by ad hoc adjustment of the claims / expansion of the conspiracy. You cannot simply "debunk" them, the conspiracy just gets bigger or modified. Jobs was sacrificed by the elites or not part of them. The elites are protected from the chemtrails in some way. Etc. The "end of the world" stuff is not supposed to be a conspiracy among the rich, but religious prophecy; The people, who believe in it, WANT it to happen.
1
No. And my grandparents didn't hate computers at all.
1
Oh the irony. "be fruitful and multiply" is supposed to mean to stop thinking like animals?! You didn't think about this for a second, did you?
1
Andrew Singleton You don't even realize when you make outrageous claims. A civilization is specifically something in which you don't just multiply. Bacteria multiply. We want to create a good world for people to live in. Quality, not quantity. And that's where your religion is diametrically opposed to civilization. Your god destroyed, in his own mythology, the human civilization, because he was envious.
1
Joshua Slowpoke So you don't care about the animals in the lake or the people, who live around it. You just care about it, because you think your deity does? That's pretty sad.
1
Andrew Singleton If you have nothing to say, then don't. But don't call me "militant" for responding to your bullshit. It's ok for you to go out and preach nonsense, but when I hold against it, I'm the bad guy?
1
Joshua Slowpoke Indeed. So why say you do what you do to appease a deity?
1
It's already in use. But I guess you mean in use in all humans.
1
That's completely wrong. Intelligence, compassion and courage are desirable, stupidity, sadism and cowardice are undesirable for example.
1
That's what you abominable morons say every single time and every single time the poor profit most from innovation. Today even the homeless have smartphones. Refugees use their phones to navigate.
1
matsomo That completely misses the point of evolution and it contradicts the bible / quran.
1
@Myconix That's not a "perfectly valid concern". To slaughter children in a horrible fashion because of "overpopulation" makes no fucking sense at all.
1
ActionCow At the moment the single person decides to have children, or just happens to get some. No matter how incompetent he is. What do you care more about, the life of the children, or the right to have some?
