  4.  @jogreen12  Hi Jo, Thailand, Bali, Vietnam, if you stay away from the "most popular" areas. In the more rural areas, the people are great. Taiwan is not over run with tourists. So what you experience, represents the place. The markets, temples, walking the streets, in and around Taipei is great. The islands in the Philippines, the villagers are poor, but very friendly. You can go on forever there, exploring beaches.

  6. We are visiting Thailand, right now. I’m agnostic as far as religion goes. It seems like, intellectual suicide. But here in Thailand, the Buddhist faith, has made for a very polite, and considerate people. It’s a positive influence.

  9.  @bluehotdog2610  Of course, excluding based on ethnicity, is wrong. I'm just saying, the CCP has put a lot of effort, into placing their people, in influential places, in the west. While, we if in China, would never get near to promoting a balanced narrative. Their own people, only hear the govt messaging. So, what is the way to deal with them? We have TicToc, WeChat, other Chinese media. Do they allow, YouTube, ect, no.

  14.  @J_X999  Other than buying a lot from other countries. I don’t know production figures. My comment, was referring to, that China burns the most coal, of any country. While building more coal fired plants, at home, and abroad.

  15.  @J_X999  The west, went through the industrial revolution, colonizing. We made those mistakes, we have learned, are correcting those errors. China has industrialized, in modern times. So they have had the benefit, of example. How to industrialize, in a more sustainable way. Or, how to do it, cheap fast and nasty. To all our peril.

  16. I’m not being critical of having a gun. But does it help, when they say, we have your daughter. Now do what we want. Good, we will release her, but we know where all your family members live, and work, etc? Apparently, this is the approach to the protests, now that they have Chinese surveillance equipment. Or have I heard wrong?

  18.  @jacksonchen1482  It’s not so easy. Twice I’ve chosen, wounded souls, with family trauma. That they never get over. My first wife, 25 years of marriage. She was my best friend, we did so many things together. On our wedding day, said. sex? We’re not like the others, we don’t have to do that. My anxiety got so bad, she eventually divorced me. Second one, it’s been 11 years. Same but different. At 62, without a pension to look forward to. I’m worried about two things. Loss of finances, in separation, and making a similar choice again.

  21. We need to take our democracy, more seriously. Like debating, real long term issues. Especially the ones, that are difficult. Get humanitarian minded/small business people in office, rather than more lawyers.

  23.  @jameseverett4976  Thanks, I’m not here for sympathy. (I hope) Sometimes it just feels good to let it out. My stepson, and kids from before, are on their own now. All great kids, I’m happy to be involved. It’s the money, I’m over 60, and self employed. So being able to work less. To have personal friend and family time, on weekends or more, is pretty sweet. I hope you are healthy, get some peace, and satisfaction in your life.

  32. It’s like, my parents grew up on simple farms. Where you work hard, but people were good, the land, and food, was clean. China was a rural agrarian society. It could have carried on like that for centuries. But in the madd drive to modernize. They are burning the worlds coal, polluting rivers like crazy, catching all the fish. Starting an arms race. Like this, we all won’t last. There is definitely something beautiful, about simpler ways.

  33. Around Vancouver, we have a lot of this generation immigrants, from China and India. Both come from huge population countries. Both make good neighbours. I worry about the Chinese. Because I don’t know, how many of them, are beholden to CCP propaganda. A group that wants to control the world, at any cost, to “foreigners”. (Older immigrants, are not an issue, they are us)
