  2. Contrast AOC with another NY incumbent, Elliot Engel. Engel "wouldn't care [about BLM if he] wasn't in a primary". Engel spent little to no time in his district because his home is really in Maryland. Engel got so mad because he is being primaried (so is AOC). AOC's ad shows that she cares about what the working people in her district actually go through on a day-to-day basis. If you are in AOC's district, vote for AOC. If you are in Elliot Engel's district, vote for Jamaal Bowman.

  3. When I moved to Europe in 2018, I saw flight options that had a layover in Moscow. I did not chose those options because of the small chance of being locked up in Russia. I would not go there for 2 hours, much less work there. I had a layover in London instead. If something happens in England, I trust their judicial system probably even more than I do the USA's. Do not go to Russia, North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Qatar, UAE, China, and a lot of other countries. Think about what would happen if you got arrested there.

  12. In normal times, vote for the person you want in the general election. These are not normal times. This is not the time for a message vote. Anyone who does not vote for Joe Biden in 2024, especially in swing states but I would also include other states where Trump has even a slim chance, is supporting the end of democracy and the takeover of fascism. If fascism were to happen, then nothing else matters. You would have no free speech to even debate anything again.

Time after time they have sent Benjamin Netanyahu back to power. After all the other shit he has done, and after his own criminal charges, still Israeli voters vote for Netanyahu. Only when he started taking control of the courts did they finally seem to start realizing how bad he is. Israeli voters so many times have had a choice, and they repeatedly chose the far-right-wing fascist Netanyahu.

All last week, NBC and CBS (USA broadcast TV) both ran news stories repeatedly blaming this on Hamas rockets without ever mentioning that it was Israel who started it by driving Palestinians out of their homes. But this morning, NBC's Today Show actually had a report showing a young girl in Gaza walking through the rubble, pleading with America to stop supporting Israel's bombings. CBS is still falsely blaming it all on Hamas rockets.

  28. I am preparing to leave the USA (again) in 2024 or 2025. I feel bad for the people who not only cannot leave the country, but who cannot leave their own state. They must then decide either to go back into the closet or be attacked and prosecuted for who they are. Conditions are more and more favorable for democracy to die and for fascism to take over in the USA. Who would stop a Republican president and a Republican congress? The supreme court?!?

  33. Many years ago, I was working for a major corporation. I had an emergency hospitalization. My admission and stay had been approved by my insurance at the time. However, after I got out of the hospital, my HMO retroactively disenrolled me for the entire year! I was suddenly facing the entire $30,000+ bill. I kept asking, "when I paid my premiums every month on time, where did that money go?" No one would answer that. Finally, I was able to get my company's HR to arrange with a different HMO to cover most of my bill.

  36. People have a problem with transgender people because of women's sports, that there is some kind of advantage for trans women participating in sports. Even if that were the case, it would still be a very small minority of trans women. I never hear anyone talking about the rest of the trans women. Women in general get paid less than men for the same work, have trouble advancing higher (count the number of women CEOs, for example), and tend to get harassed more (#MeToo). Nobody talks about all the disadvantages for trans women outside of sports. No one would become a trans woman if it were a choice.

She never should have backtracked on M4A. Then she said she wouldn't run for re-election in the house. This move to vote Present was absurd. Tulsi, we need progressives in congress. Bernie got slimed in 2016. He didn't change his views or resign from the senate.

  50. I know very little about Canada. But after Rob Ford was so terrible, it seems unbelievable that Toronto still elected a conservatives to succeed him, until the guy who recently resigned. I hope this means that at least Toronto if not all of Canada have come to their senses. Also, I assume that Toronto does not have ranked choice voting. Maybe that was part of the problem.
