@joepoole4922 The Secret Service is fine. Trump just expects the small detail assigned to former Presidents to do too much. He needs to quit being a cheapskate and start hiring his own supplemental protection for large events and spur of the moment golf games at clubs with poor security. We spent $500,000 per golf trip on him as President. We aren't required to spend such on him now.
1
If he'd shut his big mouth and quit acting like a petulant child maybe. As is, all his behavior is accomplishing is the loss of moderate, centrist, and independent votes and those are the votes that will decide the race. Just like in 2020.
1
Voting for those who say they'll spend less would just be voting for either liars or fools.
1
@pianomusic4you Exevutive orders can't create their own funding and closing the official entrances without being able to guard the full border tightly would only make things worse as those getting properly processed and given immigration court hearing dates now would simply cross illegally without any of that and be untrackable.

Too bad she's so naive when it comes to the dangers of personality cults. I've lost a little respect for her now. I guess being from Hawaii isolated her from such things. Though it is strange that she's apparently never studied how the Nazi personality cult around Hitler were able to corrupt Germany by convincing the majority of the otherwise well-meaning population that what they were doing was right...
1
@owebeejaun Pretty much, yep. Debates are nothing but childish charisma checks. Everyone already knows where the opponents stand on the issues and whatever "plans" they claim to have to achieve them will ultimately be unrealistic yet will still end up being content fodder for the news media, late night talk shows, and social media. All of which will be used as ammo in break room arguments. Which will also be pointless because those arguing will be the ones who knew who they were voting for long before the debate. The rest will simply hit the restroom, or hop outside to smoke/vape and make fun of the fools in the argument.
1
If Trump loses a second time, things will eventually get back to normal. The GOP will have to give up on the MAGA chaos after that and the real Republicans can wrest back control.
1
Kennedy would know... when he's mugging for the camera in committee hearings, etc., he can give anyone in DC a run for their money when it comes to being insulting, and a look at how little he has done for his constituents versus the income he has leveraged for himself through his position places him near the top of the cheapskate list as well.
1
To put on such a staged and entirely unnecessary farce for political brownie points knowing full well the backgrounds of some of the witnesses present, is simply sick. The "man" owes many apologies. Meanwhile, his state continues to wallow in the gutter while he lives high on the hog...

DOGE is the epitome of the road to 🔥👹🔥 being paved with good intentions...

It will likely be upheld. School boards and local governments in all states have generally been the ones to issue precautions when it comes to school systems dealing with infectious disease outbreaks. It simply makes more sense that way since outbreaks can be worse in some areas than others making the one size fits all approach of handling such things at the state level very inefficient at the very least. Edit: For example, my county along with a few others had two nasty flu epidemics hit the region in the early/mid 90's with both leading to two week shutdowns of our public schools in the heavily affected counties implemented by the school boards/local governments. The same flu didn't hit other areas anywhere near a bad so shutting all schools in the state down would have been silly as would forcing those that closed to remain open via a broad state law since they only accounted for a handful of the state's total counties.

They're evidence is overwhelming...

@Rich-yj4ub The world population growth rate was less than 1.1% prior to covid 19. It's not necessarilly that big of a deal but if able to catch it multiple times year to year due to new variants, the combined mortality rates could tip that to the negative. Also, covid 19 leaves behind scar tissue in the lungs of at least ~1/3 of it's cases. Decreased lung function makes other systems work harder which can cause minor medical conditions to become moderate conditions etc. In the long run, (again if it can be caught multiple times yearly) the added strain on world healthcare systems could cause them to collapse. Economies would likely suffer as well due to lost man hours due to health issues etc. Not trying to be a doomsayer but all politics aside, an extremely infectious disease like this can do more damage over time than one might think. Especially if it's number of variants is allowed to grow quickly early on.

None to be had in a civil suit.

Falling for the "they got away with it, why can't I?" excuse as an adult, when it wouldn't fly if your kids used it, isn't exactly something to be proud of...especially since Trump's behavior wasn't really a true analog to what the Dems do. Well, the right will have plenty of time to realize their mistake while the Dems control things for at least the next 12 to 16 years. It'll take about that long to repair the split between the immature side and the mature side of the Republican party. Assuming it survives long enough to be repaired...it may already be too far gone.
1
Can they outright "win"? Probably not without actual boots on the ground from other countries. Can they hold out long enough to make it no longer worth the effort from Russia? Yes. Regardless, we're pot committed at this point and can't afford to allow Putin to bluff his way into another "victory" like he did in Crimea. He needs to be put in his place now before he can get enough of his nuclear arsenal functional to take seriously, or it's going to cause major problens for us down the line.
1
Nah. It went his way because technically the US Constitution only says that an insurrectionist isn't eligible to be President. It doesn't directly state that one can't run for President. Essentially, the ineligibility occurs at the federal level not the state so if a state's election laws allow for someone to be on the ballot/a legitimate "write in," and they won, their eligibility wouldn't be checked until the electoral votes are being counted to determine the President elect. Thus, the issue wouldn't be a matter for the courts to decide until Congress invalidated a state's votes claiming ineligibility of the candidate under the 14th amendment. That's when the courts would have to interpret the law concerning what constitutes being an insurrectionist in a legal sense (do they need to have been convicted of it etc. Edit: The President's room and board as well as other expenses (including salary even if they refuse to accept it) are paid for via tax dollars. Thus, the President is an employee of the people. The original motivation for the law was to prevent ex-Confederates from holding public office again. In that context, an intent of allowing one to hold the highest office possible while blocking them from any other makes no sense.

Rand's state is one of the biggest offenders when it comes to misuse of federal funding...and yet he didn't mention any of that grift in his presentation...
1
There's nothing his sycophants in Congress can do about it (other than make themselves look even more pathetic than they already do perhaps). He broke the law and was found guilty by a jury of his peers (and this is just the beginning). Congress has no business getting involved in any of it. His toadies are finally starting to realize that they went all in on a losing hand and are now panicking at the thought of it all crashing down around them. That's what happens when you value charisma more than integrity... it's a shame they have to learn that the hard way.
1
@lqdfuzion2914 Nah, his childish refusal to ever accept responsibility for his actions along with his petulant tantrums have pretty much lost him the centrist and moderate votes he'll need if he wants any chance of winning. Also, his flop of a rally in the South Bronx clearly showed that he can't count on enough Hispanic and Black votes to bail him out. His campaign is doomed. Though he'll be more than happy to pocket the money his supporters insist on throwing at him... and he'll be laughing at them all the way to the bank.
1
Why? Everyone is already aware of where the candidates stand on the issues. Debates are only useful to candidates whose only strength is their charisma.
1
@onedayatatime007 Breaking a House procedural rule is not a crime.
1
@kimberlygarrett1485 The only thing they've violated is a House procedural rule. Even that's a little questionable since walkouts aren't directly prohibited by such rules. The rules merely give the authority to compel their attendance.
1
Censuring someone for doing their job... Childish behavior like this is a great way to lose votes from moderates, centrists, and independants. The demographics which decided the 2020 Presidential election and will do the same in 2024...
1
That's nice.
1
The look in BiBi's face. He got ninja looted...
1
@scottheath9460 Because no one cares about Lt. Governors enough to look into their background much... Skeletons like this don't pop up until you run for a nationally visible office. Then people put some time and effort into digging.
1
@thebridesons5516 His entire upper campaign staff left and he has refused help from tech people who support him...
1
@scottheath9460 You're view of her maybe. I've never seen her present herself that way. Trump on the other hand does go out of his way and even off topic sometimes to puff himself up.
1
@Furryfeather unless he can play it to his advantage...selling golden bibles as a fundraiser for example.
1
One need only analyze the IDF's battle plan for this war to realize that destroying Hamas and rescuing the hostages are not their primary concern. This is a thinly veiled attempt at a land grab via genocide/ethnic cleansing. Nothing more.

@Bottomfeederonfire Have any of those posts been web archived years ago?
1
Well, the Republican party is far more pro-Israel than the Democrats...

The documents found might be copies with the originals already having been accounted for by the archivist. Especially those held by the two former VPs.

The military should (and already does) require vaccinations against infectious diseases seen to be a threat to their overall effectiveness. In this case, being vaccinated for covid is by far the best course of action statistically. Refusal is a wholly selfish act which puts more than just the individual at risk and selfish soldiers tend to be unreliable soldiers. Also, given the statistics, the decision not to get vaccinated shows a significant lack in judgement and thus could lead to increased unreliability and poor decision making which could in turn put the individual and those around them at even greater risk. For the sake of order, discipline, and cohesion, those in the military who refuse to get vaccinated should receive medical discharges and let that be the end of it.
1
A first year law student would know that this case and all of the others are completely legit. Those who have graduated and passed the bar would also know never to represent Trump as he has a tendency to sabotage his own defense with his big mouth and a habit of not paying his legal counsel.
1
@gaiagoddess8009 That has yet to be officially determined and since there's a federal statute addressing rebellion/insurrection common sense would lean toward needing a conviction of such to be disqualified. It's a moot point anyway since the 14th amendment says nothing about being on a ballot to begin with. One simply cannot hold office or be the elector to office (essentially be declared President Elect by Congress.) no powers over being on a ballot exist within the amendment.
1
@DonaldKDever He can't deport these people. It's out of his or any President's hands and he knows it. This is just more bs for uneducated votes.
1
Won't save Giuliani.
1
@Bullrider33Outdoors President's can't pardon civil suits...
1
Once the GOP regains it's sanity and quits playing childish games, yes.
1
Lesson three, don't fill out the site profile with accurate information and use a burner email account at least. And lesson four, just don't make an actual account on a pron site to begin with.
1
Can't pardon a civil suit.
1
Political scientist = arm-chair quarterback.
1
@HikingWithCooper It was a federal crime for him to withhold aid from Ukraine without informing Congress but they let him get away with that too. His supporters don't care about the law.
1
Did it to himself.
1
There will be no suit prior to the election and he'll drop any pretense at one soon after...unless he wants to end up paying CNN's legal fees along with his own.

Reagan was the first to start "borrowing" from the Social Security general fund. As for the inflation, that was unavoidable thanks to covid 19. Even if Trump had won in 2020, that was an inevitability. When it comes to solar power, we've known since the 70's that we were going to have to ween ourselves off of dinosaur juice eventually and just kept putting it off for the next generation to deal with. Ultimately the answer to your overall question is that we did it to ourselves. As an aside, it's going to cost us more to keep immigrants out than it will to let them in. If we really want to fix the problem, we should just institute a work for citizenship program and use it to start repairing and replacing our crumbling infrastructure. We've got plenty of room for more people and the money we spend trying to catch them and throw them back only to have them return is just money wasted.
1
@lindaschipansky4429 Because they aren't weak appeasers like some who make bad deals that come back to haunt us later.
1
@shawnm3941 Someone who liked the company of a man who had been separated from his wife for over a decade at the time. Both of whom were seeing other people during that time. Big whoop...
