@MarkDillard-t7f Yes he does need Congress. They control the money. Executive orders can't create their own funding. They have to work within the existing budget for the relevant agency(s). Said budgets are already maxed on the restrictions he has already put in place with orders. Trump would run into the exact same problem he just doesn't mention that to his supporters when making his promises.

Virginia's incompetence in handling their voter registration is where any blame for this deciaion lies. They somehow registered 1600 people who marked non citizen on dmv forms. They then chose to remain in the dark agea by using years old dmv forms which don't always get updated when someone becomes a citizen instead of simply cross referencing the federal citizenship database like other atates do. Also, unreliable robo mailing of notifications for somwthing as important as someone's right to vote is unacceptable. Finally, they knowingly violated the federal 90 day window hoping to use an old superceded state law as an excuse. The court had no choice but to block their purge. The people of Virginia really should consider replacing some of their incompetent State Goverenment over this.

This was a vote to open it for debate, not to pass it outright...

He probably shouldn't bring Ukraine into it. He was acting as an illegal representative of the US when he failed to uncover anything there.
1
Not funny...more like sad. The judge of character in who the GOP backs since Trump came along has been atrocious.
1
He'd just ignore God's help like he did his detail's warnings that the course was not secure and requests for time to secure it. No amount of help can overcome arrogance and hubris indefinitely.

Nah, Ginny's the pimp. He's just the...

Abortion bans violate the involuntary servitude part of the 13th amendment.
1
@jgr7487 Thousands of civil court verdicts have referred to carrying and giving birth as work. The 13th Amendment prohibits involuntary servitude which is being made to do work against your will. Abortion bans force women who want abortions to do work against their will. Abortion bans violate the 13th Amendment.

We're fine. A subsect of the population is just prone to hysteria.

To those saying Congress needs them first... They already have them. It's called elections. Besides, the average House member only serves for a little over four (two year) terms and Senators, a little less than two (six year terms.) Both are well below the average length of a SCOTUS Justice term.
1
Our border is simply too large to successfully patrol for any reasonable cost. Figuring out what to do with them once they're here is the better alternative.
1
And a fat wallet...while his constituents are dependent on the federal taxes from blue states to keep them from looking more like a third world country than they already do...
1
Trump has no place for moderate and centrist conservatives in his vision of America. Both her and RFK were bought on because Trump is losing that demographic's vote. Whether he wins or loses, they will be discarded the moment they question him on anything.
1
@blksbth1 You'll never see a bit of it and his mass deportation plan will skyrocket food and housing prices far beyond what inflation and price gouging have already if it passes. You'll need every promise he makes to keep from starving.
1
@markoakley2508 Considering that the lab specializes in coronaviruses and bats (which make up ~20% of all mammal species) are a prime source of them, it would be odd if they didn't have bats...

If this is the best they've got, it's no wonder the state is so poor...

Israel won't take us seriously unless we restrict the tap, and Hamas won't listen as long as the tap continues to flow as it does. The Republicans and some Democrats in Congress refuse to even lessen the flow, so unless Trump loses and his grip on the GOP is broken, there really isn't a bargaining chip in this for us to play. Both sides will rightfully just continue to do their thing and ignore us.
1
The evidence they provided is solid.
1
You don't.

I'd be awkward too if I were in the mess he's currently in in his home country and was having to sell my soul to Musk and the current administration in hopes that it would save me...

Interesting that he doesn't mention that the same judge stated that former President Trump did participate in an insurrection. That could become a problem for him in the future. The Constitution prevents anyone who participated in an insurrection/rebellion from holding office. It doesn't say anything about running for it. We could end up in a situation where he gets elected to an office he can't legally hold. That would definitely be...interesting to watch.
1
@martyolson9433 He's alive in spite of his own insistence on going against his detail's suggestions. If he keeps doing arrogantly stupid stuff like that, he's going to get an agent(s) or himself killed just like JFK did and it will be his fault. When you know people want you dead, an intelligent/sane person would make more prudent decisions concerning their activities. He even fought against his agents trying to get him off the stage at the first attempt so he could get in a photo op (which he then sold on a coin as a fundraiser). If one didn't know better, they'd think he was trying to die.

It's indiscriminate terrorism and Israel should be sanctioned just like all other terrorist organizations.
1
They are. This is the modern world not the early 1900's. We tried isolationism and it didn't work.
1
@jared30 That's Forbes for you. Classic tabloid journalism.

President's can't pardon civil suits...only federal criminal convictions.
1
He'll drop it as soon as the election is over. Just a strategic play on his part to appear innocent to his supporters.
1
Because it goes toward his boss's judge of character and lack of a vetting process when determining who to back...
1
What's to report. The Republicans in Congress won't allow the only bargaining chip we have to play with the Israel mess, and only a fool would negotiate with Putin at this point. Both problems will continue. One because it needs to (Ukraine) and the other because the right wants it to (Israel v anyone they feel like)
1
Nearly, if not actually, impossible given all the evidence involved. There's a reason he's been refusing offers of help from tech people who support him.
1
@bucklejrjjbg8197 Have you looked at the actual evidence presented in the CNN article? It goes much further than just that. Once he files a suit against CNN, they will be able to subpoena the final bits of evidence that would nail it down. So if he continues to refuse help from tech people who support him and doesn't actually file a suit, you'll have your answer for sure.

@Hexagonal_Goblin I'd love to hear a therapist's justification for treatments which risk/cause the permanent sterilization of a minor. Which is essentially what you get if puberty blockers are used or an actual sex change operation is performed.
1
Well, if the US hadn't stolen their oil early on, they probably would have been a much better off country...just saying.

I wish the Dems had split this bill into multiple parts. There are quite a bit of good changes included in it but they get overshadowed by some of the less legitimate things.

@ACommenterOnYouTube He mishandled the initial outbreak of Covid leading to crushing medical debt and death for many that could have been avoided and made the long term ramifications of it much worse than they needed to be. He made horrible deals with the Taliban in a desperate attempt to fulfill an unwise campaign promise at any cost. He violated international agreement with his immigration policy, he put three lackey SCOTUS Justices on the bench who have made a mockery of the court, He greatly lessened our ability to defend our middle eastern and European interests by intentionally destabilizing NATO and disrupting our rapid response hub in Germany with his foolish base closure order (giving Putin the green light to invade Ukraine), He violated Impound Contril Act in every way imaginable, was weak in dealings with our enemies in general, and badly tarnished our image and sense of reliability with our friends, persecuted and purged his party's moderates and centrists, chose the opinion of politicians and "legal experts" over those of the individual (setting a horrible precedent for individual freedoms), put a hit out on his own VP, and tried to overthrow the people's choice for President. That's just while he was in office. My favorite was his admission during the debate that he would back down to the nuclear dictators of the world whenever they threaten to use nukes. In general he bred chaos when sanity was responsibility was needed.
1
@billgerhart633 On the rare occasions in his history that that has been true, he always did it the wrong or easy but flawed way. Vote for him at yours and all of our risk.

Someone might want to point out to Chip some of the other rulings Thomas has stated in interviews he wants to overturn. Along with the ruling protecting gay marriage, he also wants to toss those prohibiting states from banning contraceptives and criminalizing whatever they deem to be "sodomy." Personally, I can't see how anyone would defend an arrogant a** like Thomas who thinks the government should be allowed to meddle in what consenting adults choose to do in their bedrooms and prevent them from practicing proper safety while doing so...
1
Violating a House procedural rule (which their actions indirectly do) is not a crime. If "arrested" they would simply be returned to the House. No other punishment is possible. It's moot anyway since Texas law enforcement only have the jurisdiction to make such arrests in state (which is why those who walked out left the state.) Edit: Walkouts serve a function at the state level similar to that of the filibuster at the federal level. There's nothing immature about it. Abraham Lincoln even participated in one early in his political career.
1
@seanthegod4585 The immigrants he's talking about are here legally and the people of the area don't want them gone... This is just him doubling down on the lie he told during the debate because he can never admit he's wrong about something. Thanks to him, cities in Ohio have been getting bomb threats and had to close schools because of angry MAGA folk who actually believe his nonsense.

@GladiatorSlows Your Ontario argument is pointless. With no control group to compare to there's no way that data can be used to determine the effectiveness of the mandates. There is however plenty of data from many studies going back decades that clearly show that surgical masks are effective at trapping all but the smallest aerosol respiratory droplets exhaled by the wearer. Which generally accounts for ~40% to ~70% of the total volume of said droplets depending on whether the person is talking, coughing, etc. The droplets that are trapped are those that would otherwise settle on surfaces, clothing, etc. Since, respiratory droplets are the primary method of spread for covid 19 (and pretty much all viral respiratory illnesses) preventing just 40% from entering the environment is obviously a better approach than doing nothing...especially when it only requires a minor inconvenience to do so. Edit: Also, South Dakota was the only US state that didn't implement any precautions and, though being near the bottom of the list for both population and population density, they rank in the top 10 when it comes to cases per 100k and deaths per 100k. In fact, their number of deaths and cases are ~40% higher than the national average. Oregon on the other hand went heavy on the precautions and their numbers are all well below the national average.
1
Probably better for him if it isn't broadcast on mainstream channels...People might get curious as to what all the federal funds going to his state are actually being used for. Kentucky is one of the states which pays far far less in federal taxes than they receive in federal money.

Bluster at a brick wall.

If he pulled that childish stunt near me, he'd be looking for some of his teeth.

@CM-np6ru VPs are to be seen not heard. They never do much of anything so that they don't accidentally complicate things. Their primary reason for existence is that of an understudy/to draw the vote of certain demographics.
1
@nomoreBS-hun No it's pretty obvious when you've lived through many administrations... VPs never do much other than preside over joint sessions of Congress, cast the very rare tie breaking vote, and make pointless public appearances (and occasionally do some relatively unimportant ambassador type junk). They are picked to patch weak spots in voter demographics and to sit around hoping the President doesn't die or end up incapacitated long enough to have to transfer power for any significant amount of time. Simply read their powers in the Constitution...I've mentioned more than it does. Edit: For historical example, they waited forever to give Bush the elder any power when Reagan was shot and incapacitated. He was picked only because he had headed the CIA at one point and looked good on the ticket for national defense during the cold war. No one bothered to inform Truman of the nuclear program until well after FDR died. He was picked to pull the common man/midwest vote. Quayle misspelled potato and pretty much disappeared from the public eye from then on. I don't think anyone knows why he was picked and he quickly faded away afterwards. etc.

When answering questions concerning a field a President isn't an expert in, giving prepared answers is the intelligent thing to do. It's a good way to avoid things like a President suggesting that injecting bleach is a good way to prevent/treat an infectious didease...
1
Yeah...use a camera drone for the footage and some editing software next time...
