The reason Scania is not in the USA is they do not see a DEMAND high enough to be worthwile give it a go, so far. It can naturally change in the future. All the technicalities with regultions, create plant locally and so on they can fix, as long as they see a certain DEMAND.

  4. I know hills, living in Norway, lots of 770S and 750 volvos all around here, and for a good reason. What i see in the US is mainly endless flat lands, gentle hills, and fully understand the 450-550 hp typical trucks, with just 37 t total weight; nothing compared to Europe. But again, sure in the Rockies, many driving there mainly, would love to have more power. and tuning is not unusal, 600-800 hp. I would not mind them having larger standard engines. But all I see is Cummins got max 600 hp or there bout, for trucks, and there nust be a reason why they do not bother developing more powerful engines. The technology is there for sure, and if needed they get help from a Euro manufacturer.  @st-ex8506

  5. Not easy, naturally, but not impossible) Only way to do s Scania as a manufacturer having it as a demo truck in the Us, for marketing purposes only. Allowed 1 year at the time. Lot's of paperwork and lawyers involved

  8. It's the first ariving as a brand new truck to the US, that is offically known. US manufacturers might have bough some in the past to tear down. Someone commenting had seen a new Scania at a Kenworth plant 5 years ago. Notknow what engine.

  18. It's said it was Meredes Benz that managed to make the US gov. create the 25 year rulefor foregin cars and trucks, 70s or 80s. Someone started importing new Mercedes cars from European dealers as it was cheaper, instead of taking them from Mercedes US sources. If the Us gov is afraid of competitoon, they put tarifs on imports, but no general reason to forbid it. The 25 year rule has just been at place

  21. Competition is strong between the differen Euro brands. Delivery time, price, service deals, that is factors important to companies. When companies change between different brands, it do not need to be because of issues with the trucks themselves, but general economical factors, they are gven a better deal by their local Volvo dealer or whatever

  22. They have no big plans for the near future for the US market, but likely follow the situation and have it on their 'to look moreinto list'. But it's good generel marketing for the brand, around the world, with a Scania on US road, as it's unusual and will draw attention. Scania has actually developed a Longline cab v2, or XXL as the also call it, and are testing prototypes as of 2024.. At an too early stage for Bruce's project, but will guess he get's his hand on such a model in the future, if they decide to take the XXL cab into production

  27. Been fine tuned in wind tunnels for decades, can beat any other truck when it comes to milage. It's hard/impossible to tell by just 'looks' in many cases if low wind drag or not, it's all in the small details

  32. you said the key word: 'local routes' That probably will be a main first focus of Scania, if they ever want to go for the US market. Low or tall cabin, it does not matter much, these cabs are too small anyway for US truckers going long distance. A new Longline cab will be interesting for long distance.

  37. Nope. Not quite. Scania was all on their own back then. Now Navistar is a sister company, dealer/service point already there all around the country, and in addition Scania Engine division has been around in Noth Ameria for decades and got hundreds of dealers

  38. The have a new Longline on the go, maybe launched at the end of the year. If going into the US market, they might avoid spending time and effort building a typicla US desing hooded truck with a big sleeper, but offer the cabover Longline for those interested, and focus more at vocational trucks, inter-city trucks with an standard sleeper/daycab

  39.  @Gr8Buccaneer  yes, eastern europe truckers stay in weeks in those small cabs. But they are generally not any picky about working conditions, they take whatever job that pays better than they can earn localy in some poor villages back home. They would sleep in a tent on the side of the truck, if they got a truck without sleeper cab.

  41. To get any sale volume to speak of, Scania had to develop a conventonal style cab, along their cab forwards. They got the capability to do it, but so far not found it economical interesting enough compared to other markets around the world. Some new Scanias are spoted now and then on the US highways, and on test tracks belonging to Naivstar, now their US sister company. They might got plans

They have not made the effort to get their trucks built and allowed according to US regulations, likely as they have not seen the market potensial large enough for them to bother.   50. Forget about comparing drivers comfort of old US cabovers with modern Euro cabovers, it's on a completly different level. In the 'old days' a 'cheap' and simple way to increase drivers comfort was to put the driver further behind the front axle. Billions and billions have been put down developing these trucks. Plenty of horrible roads in Europe too. The cab in the video is for local tips, no problem spend a few nights. There is a 70 inch sleeper in the making.
