The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. - John Kenneth Galbraith
1
Just give all "official US citizens" a free voter ID or even better, let us use our social security cards. I'm so sick of this crooked BS!!
1
Not sure how to do that? And no I'm not a fan of utopian anarcho ideas...
1
Political radio is crap in this country! If you live live in a red state it's even worse!...
1
BramSLI1 And what does the right have? 'oh, we just have to give the nation another shot of trickle down... it'll work this time.' (It's time to bury that scam already!)
1
BramSLI1 I haven't heard this term before, but I'll keep an eye on for it. And no I don't think the scam is dead... yet... But it's getting there, Kansas and Wisconsin were all the final proof I needed. (Especially since Minnesota, which did exactly to the opposite of what Walker and Teabaggers wanted.) and is now stable and thriving, while Wisconsin is literally being scrapped and sold on the dollar. (And all to protect the precious, useless tax breaks of the state's plutocrat class.)
1
Jeremy Einbinder You're right... You can't have 'absolute' property rights and human rights at the same time. It doesn't mean you can't have property rights, but it does mean that property rights 'have' to be limited some in order to protect human rights. Me personally, I care far more about human rights than property rights and economic security over economic freedom.
1
Jeremy Einbinder You're right, However, I was using the word freedom in the context of the neoliberal definition, (Freedom from regulation and accountability) Not the FDR-esque 'freedom from want' definition.
1
I look forward to these two sociopathic freaks joining Scalia in the future!
1
Well said...
1
In the future, if we fully lose a major city to rising sea levels (New Orleans, Miami etc:). I have a feeling these fools will finally wake up and see they were duped.
1
Personally I'd rather have an atheist president for a change, even though a "non-radical/anti-Islamist" Muslim would be tolerable. Now a Buddhist President would be awesome!! However, NO MORE fake ass, war-mongering, greed-worshiping faux christians!!! (Aka: Reagan, Bush etc.)
1
Now if only we can get the things named after the senile crook from the 80's changed back to their original names. Ex: 'National Aiport' in DC.
1
Sadly, true...
1
Trump's racist pandering is disgusting. However, I got to give him props for not kissing up to the dominionist scum of the American christian right. The sooner these assholes vanish into history the better... And fuck Reagan and the so-called moral majority for bringing them into the political mainstream in the first place!!!
1
The can understand that 12% The 'I've got mine F you!' mentality part of the country is around 25-30% of the county. It's understandable that around 10-15% of that number would be some of the most vicious of those hyper-callous sociopaths! Hence that 12% support for the bill. DXX And quite literally when it comes to the his bill. The only people I've seen on the comment sections that support it are these sort of awful people!
1
Sadly I agree.
1
I 'like' what Hillary is saying. I 'know' that she'd never implement it.
1
However, I'm not a fan of Corbyn's negative attitude toward NATO. Russia is fiesty again for land and power. (as this whole civil war in the Ukraine has shown.) I'd be foolish not to prep and defend against that.
1
Yep, the Republicans have become a nest of vile sociopaths! Amazing to think this was once the party that gave us Dwight D. Eisenhower. However, their evil government crapola, started up by that senile crook in the 80's, has rotted their brains and their souls turning them into callous, power hungry monsters!
1
So people don't have a right to a union, because it's money could be used to influence politics. Yet lobbyists, PAC's, think tanks, dark money groups should be allowed to spend with no restrictions whatsoever. What a disgusting double standard. (The US is destined to turn into a fascist plutocracy!)
1
After feeling ideologically betrayed by the moderateness of Carter. In the late 1970's these christian dominionists and totalitarian theocrats made a coalition with economically far right republicans in order to oust Carter from office. This came to be known as the 'moral majority'. (aka: Pat Robertson/ Jerry Falwell etc:) The deal was this, You allow us to push christian dominionist polices on the nation and we well say silent in your desire to bring back late 18th century 'laissez faire' capitalism back and the inequalities and corruption it will bring. (The GOP hasn't deviated from this since Reagan.)
1
Carol McKee Private prisons are RW Libertarian ideas at their most hideous! This is crap right out of Orwell's 1984.
1
Lewis Powell was a disgusting little, corporate boot licking POS!!
1
I remember a few years back PBS had a disgusting show praising the Citizens United decision. I haven't watched them since.... The PBS I loved growing up with in the in the 90s - early 2000s... is dead...
1
Comcast can go to hell!! When it comes to this...
1
Exactly! Great quote from FDR...
1
Right to work 'for less' laws are poison pill laws! With these, Corporate America proudly violates its own free market dogmas for nothing more than, what can amounted to as, vitriolic, anti -democratic,hyper-partisan and emotional hatred of labor! Same thing could be said for the poison pill they shoved down the US post office. Thx for using my call Thom...
1
+Another Agnostic Haha nice!! I love it!!
1
Is this A-hole generation 4th generationers, or are they being influenced by the 4th generationers.
1
airthrow I agree 100%!!!
1
***** Hildabeast... LOL! However I have to disagree Turd Cruz or Snotty Walker are far more nightmare-inducing than Hillary.
1
Yep, from that elitist scumbag Milton Friedman.
1
"What drives me nuts is seeing a right winger behaving like a monster and not only does the democrat compromise with the monster but he has damned near zero emotion" I hate to say it but the American RW Libertarians may be right about this as this whole war between Repubs and Dems could all be just smoke and mirrors. The fact is since Reagan/ Friedman both sides have supported and rammed through the same disgusting neoliberal policies. (The Dems may be slightly worse economically since they run of being FDR liberals then in power they become avid Friedmanites. aka: Clinton, Obama.) Socially however they're 1000% better than f$%king christian dominionist theocrats of the GOP. (Only reason to vote Dem in my opinion.) However, even though they may be right on this issue. They're policy solutions are sociopathic, elitist trash!! (aka: Austrian crankanomics and 'so-called' anarcho-capitalism.) Screw that shit!!
1
StunnedByStupidity "Neoliberalism is a libertarian philosophy." Absolutely! neoliberalism is the desired goal of modern-corporations, not some idiotic utopian fantasy about government free voluntarianism. What I was implying is that RW Libertarians are able to see that the system is rotten, however what they can't see due to their market religion is that it was 'their' market fundementalist polices that led us to this bitter, crumbling mess of an economy Because corporations have always 'only' given lip service to the policies of laissez faire yet in reality want total control of the gov, Market fundementalist polices weaken government so that big business and corporations can buy off the government and rig it to do their bidding. That's what happened during the Gilded Age and it now repeating itself in the 2010's. Yet these fools, their brains rotted by Rand's deluded dribble and Friedman's silmy BS, still believe that these corps are noble and virtuous and are being crushed by an evil soviet-esque government that hinders their peaceful and righteous desire for a actual free market. LMAO!!! (How anyone can fall for such bunk is beyond me, especially after 2008.)
1
StunnedByStupidity I'm having a very hard time understanding the term HSP. It is far too generic for me to understand and discuss. I highly recommend taking the Biggs Meyers Personality Assessment. It can explain your personality traits with much more detailed variables. I would very much like to see exactly what personality type you are scored as being. http://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test For example: I am a INTJ, Introverted, Intuitive. Thinking, Judgmental, It is one of the rarest personality types. No wonder I've never felt like I fitted in growing up, being a deep, critical thinking person in a tiny Bible-thumping southern town.
1
+brogs60 Friedman was a rat bastard crook!!!
1
***** I grew up in the South, and can definitely say that an element of this is that conservative Southerners view everything through a black and white lens, there are no grey areas. Everything is viewed with absolutism.Add evangelical christianity to this mix and this attitude is multiplied ten-fold. (There's a reason the Texas board of education said it wanted to not teach critical thinking skills.)
1
***** Beyond embarrassing, and the crazy thing is I went to a private Christian school back in the very early 2000's for my middle school years. And they 'never' spewed such nonsense! From living down here, I think it was the election of Obama that sent wingnuttery into the stratosphere. I shudder to think what my old school is teaching now.
1
***** Beyond desperate, having to resort voter suppression, and poison pill legislation just to get their way? It's pathetic and sickening... However, nothing makes me angrier than the system they use directly sabotaging working social programs, then having the nerve to say 'oh see government doesn't work, look like we need to privatize this.' It's downright mafioso in my opinion... and the main reason I will NEVER! vote for a anti/small government politician!...
1
This is a major reason, why I support green energy 100%... Destroy these fascist pigs! As for the Koch crooks... There's no two people I want to see "dead!" and in the ground than these two rotten, sociopathic, corporate fascist bastards!!
1
I always figured this would be end result of the supply-side scam! Taxes would be cut so low that states would have a hard time providing basic services... Now well have to see if the scam finally implodes in upon itself, and we go back to economic sanity. Aka: Cutting and raising taxes in akin to economic signals and not this perverse, asinine economic cult of tax cuts only!.. cause it's wrecked us and ruined the economies of many states!
1
We are entering some likely ugly times. All we need is another massive crash like the Great Depression... then Wham!! Say hello to a Fascist surge deja du to the 1930's!
1
Lewis Powell, The mother of all asshole SCOTUS judges (modern day), who empowered, corporations to pursue their sick dream of a corporate-controlled state. Milton Friedman - The corporate whore economist who designed the system, specifically designed to achieve this goal. (neoliberalism) Ronald Regan - The slimy used-car salesman who successfully sold this economic poison to the American people.
1
The title is kind of misleading. Capitalism doesn't directly correlate to Fascism. However, corporatism/ corporate fascism is what 'laissez faire' morphs into when allowed free reign. (Which is the model that both Thom and this lady are criticizing, and I can't blame them.) And, she is right about the ramming of competition down our throats. It really is sickening how Neoliberal ideology rams competition into 'every' aspect of human society. not everything in life has to be looked at in terms of F-king dog eat dog!! But that's the way the plutocrats want it... Make the masses anti-human sociopaths like they are and they'll be able to reign unchallenged.
1
Dude, leave... Get out of 'Kochistan' and find a better life for yourself. (Now if you have family there and don't want to leave them, then that's understandable.) But if you have no obligations back home... Let the teabagger corporate boot-licker dumbasses go down with their Titanic.
1
You just explained why I am a socialist, or a more nuanced term, social democrat. And why I reject Communism and American model Libertarianism.
1
I always wondered this... Hmm.. figures... Anything coming out of that slimebag, corporate-thug think tank ALEC.. is evil, lying, corporatist bullshit and rotten to the core!!
1
You got it!... No! the extremes from both sides of the political spectrum.
1
Personally I think the European Union is a good thing and needs to survive, but the Euro is a failure and likely needs to go
