  10. Teenager Greta is infinitely more eloquent and mature than Toddler Trump and US citizens REALLY need to review their concept of "socialism". The concept of "PHYSICAL distancing during a pandemic" probably makes sense to any average US citizen, but "SOCIAL distancing during a pandemic" will incite a red haze of rage in the mind of a typical Repugnican. There is something really, seriously wrong with the US nation. Every nation in northern Europe has mostly content citizens that mainly argue about minor and petty problems, NOT if you will go bankrupt or die because you have limited access to health care - or if you will afford to send your kids to University, let alone having to worry if you can feed your family in the first place!   13. I am a fortunate outsider: I am not a US citizen and I do NOT live in this crazy, mad Trump-land. However, being born in the middle of the last century I used to admire the US and everything American for decades and find it tragic how this "shining light on the hill" example has deteriorated. Nordic and European democracies are based on the examples the US provided following WW2, and apparently the only nation that has NOT followed that example is the US itself.

  18. Bernie labels himself as a democratic "socialist" and everybody freaks out, terrified of USSR / Venezuela-style communism. This is utter nonsense. What Bernie is fighting for is a Nordic countries / European-style "social democracy" - which is actually a totally outdated label. The old LABEL might still be "social democracy", but what is actually practiced is WELFARE CAPITALISM - capitalism with reins attached to ensure that the welfare of the population is not sacrificed on the altar of corporate and political greed. This is implemented by: No voter suppression, automatic voter registration which results in high voter turnout, affordable health care and education and a functioning infrastructure (sure - taxes are higher, especially on the rich, but health insurance companies become mostly redundant, resulting no insurance premiums). This results in e.g. universal health care that costs on average 10-11% of GDP versus the 18% of GDP spent on US health care. Who do you think is pocketing the additional 7-8% in the US?

"Bring the troops home with dignity" simply means to stop waging war against under-developed countries for the purpose of "protecting US interests" at the behest of large corporations that want to grab the resources of said countries. A side benefit is that working-class youths will no longer be coming home dead, mutilated or mentally scarred for life. An extra (never-thought-of) benefit will be that in due course, other countries will have less reason to hate the US. The US has yet to realize that a "moderate democrat" (corporate democrat) in the US is what other developed countries consider far-right. A US "progressive democrat" is considered a centrist! An extra-extra benefit: Reducing your military expenditures. THAT is how you can pay for universal affordable health care, affordable education, functioning infrastructure and what have you, all in one fell swoop...

When a Swedish teenager manages to make the 'leader of the free world' (whatever that particular nonsense means in 'Murica) look ridiculous, you just KNOW that Swedish kids have something US kids might want to emulate, like common sense.   25. I'm always astounded by the hypocrisy inherent in the classic US American attitude that "American lives" are so much more valuable than e.g. the lives of middle-east civilians. Do you REALLY think that e.g. an Iraqi mother is any less devastated by the loss of her child than the mother of a US soldier? At least the US soldier was waging war in a foreign country and the Iraqi was in his homeland, killed by invading foreign military forces. There is a very simple solution to this problem: Stop waging war abroad! Use the money to tend to the needs of your own population instead. The horrible part of the 'Murican situation is the fact that this Medicare service she describes is NOT available to all pregnant women in the SSR (Slave States of America)! In Europe, support for pregnant women is virtually free AND post-birth support is extensive AND AFFORDABLE! In the SSR, the birth of a child is reportedly bound to cost $10K or more - with NO post-birth support, not to mention devoid of parental leave and support.   32. The US "democracy" and judiciary just became more flawed. The solution? The lawmakers (House of Representatives and Senate) must pass laws that decisively ends gerrymandering and voter suppression. Without that, the US does not have democracy, not even a pretend democracy. After all, the courts, Supreme Court included, only interpret the gray areas in any laws - they do NOT make laws, they just decide how to handle flaws in the laws. What are the chances of Congress fixing the problem? Nonexistent at the moment, but if US voters get off their lazy arses during the 2020 election, the legislative and executive powers just might go to people that work on behalf of the US general public, not just the rich (billionaires and big corporations.

Our various flavors of social democracy is something the 'Muricans encouraged, financed and helped us implement following WW2. We bloody well LOVE it, and are flabbergasted to see that the US is failing to implement in their own country the lessons we learned from them that are working quite well for us in Europe. Then again, today's US of A is radically different from the "immediately-post-WW2" US of A.
