2:17 No you're not better than this.
(2 Timothy 3:1-5) "But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. People will be selfish, greedy, egotistical, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without the love of goodness, betrayers, obstinate, conceited, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power;"
(2 Timothy 3:13) "wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse, misleading and being misled."
1 John 5:19 tells you why people are behaving this way. "the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." Deep down inside, you know it's true.

Do you now understand what the words of 2 Timothy 3:1-5 mean? The following describes people's behavior worldwide.
"But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. People will be selfish, greedy, egotistical, arrogant, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without the love of goodness, betrayers, obstinate, conceited, lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having an appearance of godliness but proving false to its power;"
and verse 13: "wicked men and impostors will advance from bad to worse, misleading and being misled."
The global system of things is ending VERY soon.

@dbarton3300 You missed the most crucial point of verse 12. "Only do not lay your hand on the man himself!" In other words, "do what you need to do to prove your point, only do not kill him." And again, when Satan challenged God a second time at 2:6 Jehovah said to Satan, "Look! He is in your hand! Only do not take his life!"
In both cases, Satan caused Job's pain and suffering because that's who Satan is. He is an evil sadistic creature but seemingly a former angel of some renown (Ezekiel 28:12-19 provides a snapshot of whom he used to be before his downfall). Further, at John 8:44, Jesus called Satan "a murderer when he began." According to Job 2:1, Satan still had permission to enter God's court, although not welcomed. God only permitted Satan's challenge because he brought it before God's family of angels.
At Job 2:4, Satan made a bold claim. "Skin for skin. A man will give everything that he has for his life." In other words, he charged that humans are selfish creatures. That they are only obedient to God because of the benefits they receive ("e.g., placed a hedge on every side around him"), and not because they love God. Yet despite all the terrible things Satan did, Job loved Jehovah with all his heart. Although he suffered great depression and, at times, gave undue attention to himself, he kept his integrity. He proved Satan a no-good liar!
It is worth noting that when God demanded Satan not to kill Job, in rare form, he obeyed. Satan never challenged Jehovah's authority outright. He would never do that to the most powerful person in the universe. Instead, he questioned his sovereignty or his right to rule his creation, namely humans. That challenge began at the Garden of Eden.
The universal court proceeding is still an on-going legal case between those who side with Satan and those who side with Jehovah. Satan has his evidence through various forms of human governments and conditions alienated from God to show that his system of things is a colossal failure. Contrast that there are close to nine million people today who continue to give the world a witness that living a life obedient to God is the best way. They are Jehovah's Witnesses. For as Jeremiah 10:23 aptly states, "I well know, O Jehovah, that man's way does not belong to him. It does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step."
So to answer your reply, there are no contradictions, and James 1:13 still stands.

(2 Timothy 3:1-5) "But know this, that in the last days critical times hard to deal with will be here. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud. Abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love. Unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good. Treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of Godâhaving a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people."
You may wonder if the Bible calls the times we're living in the last days, what will happen after? If you'd like to know, please reply, and I would be happy to share additional information from God's Word the Bible.

This event is par for the course. Eventually, the world's governments, including the United States, will turn against religion and destroy it. Using metaphorical language, Revelation 17:16,17 says it will happen. More to the point verse 17 says, "For God put it into their hearts to carry out his thought," In other words, God himself will prompt them to do this because the sins of the worldwide empire of false religion "have massed together clear up to heaven, and God has called her acts of injustice to mind." (Revelation 18:5). Once this action happens, and once they destroy religion, all nations will have reached their precipice of destruction.

(Matthew 24:3) "While [Jesus] was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately, saying: "Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your presence and of the conclusion of the system of things?"
(24:14) "And this good news of the Kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come."
(24:37-39) "For just as the days of Noah were, so the presence of the Son of man will be. For as they were in those days before the Flood, eating and drinking, men marrying and women being given in marriage until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and they took no note until the Flood came and swept them all away, so the presence of the Son of man will be."
This video is a small preview of the fear people will experience when the end of this system of things comes. Wherever you look, the entire earth will be surrounded by figurative fire, and there will be no escape.
(Luke 21:26) "People will become faint out of fear and expectation of the things coming upon the inhabited earth"
If you want to change that outcome, then do as Zephaniah 2:2,3 says:
"Before the decree takes effect. Before the day passes by like chaff. Before the burning anger of Jehovah comes upon you. Before the day of Jehovah's anger comes upon you, Seek Jehovah, all you meek ones of the earth, who observe his righteous decrees. Seek righteousness, seek meekness. Probably you will be concealed on the day of Jehovah's anger."
No human government is going to protect you from what's coming. Only supporting Jehovah God's government will protect you.
