  6. I agree but their argument, as best I understand: Batts are too heavy for long range trucks and they pretend(ed) they can create H on cheap hours grid electricity--mostly another Milton fantasy. Also the 'charging' speed. NKLA should be a penny stock regardless, falls flat economically with no path to viability. H stations will be extremely expensive with many required.

  11.  @iainnorquay5371  Heat only cares about going from hotter to cooler, it goes in any direction equally unless material properties are different in one direction vs another. Gravity means nothing to heat, the confusion comes from fluids we experience every day, particularly air, where warmer air is less dense therefore wants to float on top of cooler air. (it's not the heat that wants to go up it's the lighter weight air but the heat makes it lighter) Same thing with a pot of water on the stove as it's heated from the bottom you can often see the "convection currents", columns of rising hot water rising cooling slightly at top to circulate back lower, stirring the pot for you.

  25.  @Icayn  None of them are a substitute for the 1-ton service type chassis I've relied on for decades. For me the CT is the clear choice as it can be a big car, carry lumber, furniture or whatever, power a welder, etc. Go anywhere I could possible hope to drive as effectively as anything out there. And in a yr or two--do the driving for me. Software doesn't matter to dinos who don't know what they are missing, like a flip phone vs smart phone. If I want more range I'll add it later. Props to GM for offering a fine option tho, choice is good. Might not last long as they will be losing a ton of $ on every sale for foreseeable future. I avoid any new model from any MFG for first couple yrs, let them fix the early problems first.

  30. Been several decades since the name had any significant meaning. Escalades long the epitome of tasteless cheesy crap. I want leather interior touch points for starters, at least seats and arm rests, otherwise soft/padded, anything but hard plastic.

  31.  @wtmayhew  Caddy was often considered a glorified Chevy anyway but up till late '70's there was relative luxury. They also produced utterly rubbish diesels that killed the name in some folks view, around that time.

  33. Double hood latches make a lot of sense to me , allows hood to become somewhat of a structural element for crash worthiness. And it means a better stiffer connection of hood to car for daily use, feels right to latch it down solidly on BOTH SIDES. (my better old BMW has double, inspires confidence with two heavy laches, 4-point connection instead of 2-1/2 like most cars, Polstar appears the same)

  40.  @rickdees251  I think Sandy might be wrong about the top being cooler, the sides yes because batt materials are NOT isotropic, it's more like a composite with layers of material some which conduct heat better than others so alternating layers would reduce heat flow to the sides but the heat can flow to the ends in the more conductive layers more efficiently. How much diff that makes I have no idea but I like getting rid of that ribbon winding between batts as they have currently. The bottom plate cooling should be a lot simpler, less prone to failure. Also that ribbon goes a long way so the batts at one end are going to be cooled more than at the other end, maybe that can be improved from the bottom. The ribbon takes significant space too.

  42.  @Cloxxki  Price of batts has gone from around $100k to $10k in that decade and charging speed greatly increased along with longevity. Only significant problem I see for long range semis is batt mass, everything else should be relatively easy.

  44.  @lockbert99  Their website had several vehicles that didn't exist or didn't work--quad, jet ski, Badger, they tried to make the quad look like it was turning up the dirt...all hilarious at the time. And then all the BS about H fueling, IDK at what point it rises to legal fraud nor do I care, only idiot gamblers (or in the case of those who traded it quickly, smarter gamblers) got involved and they'd lose their spare change one way or another anyway.

  45.  @donwanthemagicma  A couple shorter ones went off course quite a lot in the middle, my only significant criticism, meaning the weld was too much on the beam not enough on the bracket. That should be adjusted but it likely won't matter much it's just not as efficient as it could be.

  49.  @wtmayhew  Fun tangent: Close family friends had large ranch around 25 miles from town, therefore significant driving miles. Naturally they had diesel tanks for farm equipment and figured they could write off diesel for Caddys as it wouldn't be noticed they were filling those also on farm fuel. (just occurred to me that off road diesel is taxed less and forbidden on road, not sure if that was the case at that time, but separate thing) Well the IRS called them out on diesel going to family cars and the gas small block V8s modified to diesel didn't last long, lol.

  50.  @wtmayhew  As much as I respect GM for certain 'innovations', they had a long history of experimenting in the market place instead of before hand. Corvair, particularly the rubbish aluminum block Vega, then those failed diesels and whatever I'm forgetting at the moment.
