@rogerwilco5918 Different missiles, PAC-3 came from FLAGE in 1983 then the ERINT missile. PAC-2 came from SAM-D in 1969.
1
I think we will have to rely on the inaccuracy and reliability of those missiles as our best defence, if they even exist that is 👍
1
@daneelolivaw602 bit hard to torpedo a ship in dry dock.
1
You must be really pretty to attract the attention of a CPO so quickly :P
1
@johndoe-ss9bz Only the RFA, I was shocked to learn the Dutch Navy had a union!
1
SVRL and Bring Back....
1
@britishrail243 Not really.....
1
“Noses Cold” and luneberg lenses.
1
@gregoryhouse5240 you’re an expert but think it’s unusual that a fighter can’t outrun a SAM?
1
@Dischingo the difference is in coatings, the US has better ones on the B2.
1
@furryrupert3739 of which, nobody has many .
1
@Hiker_Nature_009 SM-3 cannot be used against anti ship missiles.
1
@Hiker_Nature_009 personally, all of the important changes I see in that balance are political.
1
@davidhouseman4328 yes in December 2019 then there were cuts announced in January 2021 that everybody knew were coming. That’s the hypocritical lying Tories for you.
1
Get past it, the U.K. is a middle ranking power and the days of big navy are over and will never return.
1
@davidhouseman4328 then in January they announced cuts.
1
@davidhouseman4328 yes they did you’re just a Tory in denial. It makes me laugh, ex forces chaps moaned for 13 years under labour governments then when your beloved Tories got into power they made everybody redundant. Karma.
1
Who are you planning to fight?
1
@BroadHobbyProjects Putin doesn’t want war. If he did Kiev would already be in Russian hands.
1
@BroadHobbyProjects he’s had NATO on his borders for 20 years and can’t do anything about it without entering a conflict that would bankrupt his own country. Putin is more than anything a realist. He once said “A war with NATO would be madness.”
1
@BroadHobbyProjects Well two can play at that game and often do.
1
@BroadHobbyProjects Well yes of course, which ably demonstrates my theory that everybody takes part in the Great Game.
1
Then maybe we should not have hobbled ourselves with the economic disablement called Brexit including the probable break up of the United kingdom. If that happens we will be lucky if we can afford to maintain 2 CVF never mind 4. We have already gone from global 5th largest economy to 7th or 9th in 3 years. Everything has consequence.
1
Well we don’t like the EU or Germany now do we?
1
@jerski14344 I think both weapons are complimentary and most of those nations have a mix of them. Why waste a javelin on a BMP when am NLAW can turn one inside out for less $$$.
1
@Scumsuckingpigmonkey worryingly the Russians have now captured NLAW and Javelin firing units abandoned by retreating Ukraine forces in some areas. There was an agreement to limit use of Javelin to the Kyiv area for this reason but a desperate country doesn’t have that luxury. However, having a good look at those weapons doesn’t mean they will be able to counter them in the short term.
1
Maintenance issue, they probably settled for iron pellet paint and shaping. From the frontal aspect it looks comparable to other stealth fighters but it doesn’t look like an all aspect stealth fighter. They do know how to build one but the cost of making an F-22 analogue was probably too high a financial burden.
1
Thats why Russians earn 2 pence an hour.
1
A Patriot battery would slap the snot out of an SU-57 so would a NASAMS unit.
1
Not at all, the F-35B is the perfect carrier aircraft for UK PLC. Think "jointery".
1
@willmorrell488 At £1 Billion per ship, not likely to happen.
1
Tanks have a degree of EMP hardening designed in as does most military equipment. From rangefinders to power units to aircraft.
1
Ha yes indeed.
1
They were upgunned from a 20 to a 30 mil main.
1
Sakhalin 👍
1
@servantofchrist2483 "Shoot."
1
It is Tory governments that have hollowed out our armed forces.....
1
@Elfin4 I am no fan of Corbyn, but he does want the RN to have more surface units ie escorts, nor can he reverse Labour Party policy which is to maintain Trident he has already accepted this. A Labour leader cannot be a dictator, policy and the manifesto is a collective responsibility. The Unions dont want to shed jobs in the Nuke industry.
1
@Elfin4 Again, Chinese whispers and Daily Fail propaganda are irrelevant, Manifesto`s are relevant as are conference motions "if" they make into into the policy unit and manifesto. The manifesto committment from the Labour Party is to keep Trident, do not forget the Union support Labour needs at Barrow and every other site supporting the industry.
1
@Elfin4 I have nothing more to add really....
1
Not from each other, there’s no buddy tanking.
1
@1IbramGaunt how many Victors would it have taken to refuel enough Victors to refuel SHARS, then back to ASI again!
1
@Drew Peacock why couldn’t they just stick huge fuel drums inside the Osprey like every other tanker is weight an issue?
1
Try sailing around it for a few weeks that's even worse.
1
As many have said, Flyco is for aircraft handling, the other island is to manage the ship.
1
One standard RPG hit would probably disable the lot of them. Wonder how Iron Hand can cope with top attacks from an elevated position from say a block of flats straight down? Trenchcoat looks a better system.
1
Thank the Tories for that.
1
@nialpollitt3410 No, take a look at the labour manifesto it guarantees the deterrent and the replacement.
1
Works both ways.
1
I have a question I cant seem to find an answer to. Can the F-35 B land like a conventional fighter on a concrete runway ie without operating the Lift Fan?
