  8.  @smithereensloccomotives678  They live alone or in groups of 3-4 most of the time, they only gather up when there is a large prey or during clashes with lions over carcasses. When male hyenas mature, they are thrown out by their clanmates leaving them to fend for themselves and find new clans. So these animals are more than capable of surviving on their own. The other smaller subspecies of hyenas like brown hyenas, striped hyenas and the aardwolves are also solitary. If they can survive alone, the spotted hyenas very well can.

  9.  @cspace1234nz  They are not vulnerable alone at all, they are the second largest predators in Africa and lone hyenas always dominate leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs etc. for kills. They are truly the apex predators along with lions and African wild dogs.

They are known for their laughing sounds and are the only predators who challenge lions head on for food and dominance. Brown hyena - They are the second smallest hyenas and quite rare. They live in small families but prefer to stay alone most of the times. Striped hyena - These are the only hyenas that live in both Africa and outside Africa, they have widest range anong all hyenas. They are found in South Asia, parts of Central Asia, the Middle East and parts of Africa. Their pointy ears give them a dog like appearance. They are the same size as the brown hyenas on average. Aardwolf: It's the rarest and the smallest sub species of hyenas and look exactly like dogs. They are insectivorous which means they only eat insects.

  20.  @ashdog236  Yes, they always bring up cringey movie lines like "The king isn't hungry." Or say things like "The lion was just toying around and wasn't in the mood to kill." First of all, he isn't a king. He's just another animal trying to survive in the wild and wouldn't last a week if it wasn't for his size. These fanatics romanticise everything lions do. Second, why would he let a competitor go? Lions are known to kill predators like leopards, wild dogs, cheetahs and their cubs to remove competition, they don't have time to toy around. This lion was clearly trying to kill the hyena but realised that he could get seriously injured when the hyena got a hold of his paw, hence lost the battle.

  21.  @NannupTiger  Simple difference is that brown hyenas are entirely covered by a dark brown mane except for their stripy legs whereas the striped hyenas are grayish in colour with black striped all over their body and a mane on their back and under the belly which makes them appear much larger than they actually are.

  30. @Jancy Vargheese  Gazelles, deer and wildebeests, yes. Zebras, no. Lions often get kicked in the face and sometimes die. Lions don't have a bite force nearly as strong as that of tigers. Tigers just snap the prey's neck in seconds while lions take forever to suffocate the prey.

Why are you repeating what I said? I said that vice versa is also possible when lions outnumber the hyenas.
