  2. I normally hate it when people complain about the quality (360p at best) on these Youtube clips, but I agree here. A video as astonishingly, breathtakingly beautiful as this, deserves to be shown at the highest quality available, even if that goes against all the commercial interests of the BBC. This is why Top Gear can't work without Jezza, even if Chris Evans turns out to be a good presenter. The cinematography is beautiful, the background music provides an atmosphere that matches the gorgeous views, car and V12 soundtrack and Jeremy talks it all together with a short, but striking and touching commentary. To this day, this is one of my favourite Top Gear clips. It's completely different from the humorous 'ambitious but rubbish' films they normally do, but it pulls it off well. In that regard, only the Alfa 8C Disco Volante film (also presented by Clarkson) comes close. He is different from other motoring journalists in that he would never judge a car by its boot size, its fuel economy, or the build quality, ergonomical properties and soft materials of a dash. He judges a car by how it looks, and sounds, and makes you feel. In that, he and his co-presenters are unique, I genuinely, dearly hope they can continue that properly on their new show on Amazon Prime. Although I am confident they will.

  9. Joeri Smit It's a bit of a busy and complicated design, but the entire picture holds up quite well in my opinion. I do agree, however, that it is flawed: the car won't age well. And while hybrids are in no way a solution to any environmental problems, I do admire the technological prowess involved in developing the i8.

  10. If they put the entire drivetrain of the SLS Electric Drive into the AMG GT and sort out the batteries with new technology, it will be a masterpiece.

  20. Harold-Sweat-Head The car has a daring design. As a result, it's a Marmite design: you love it, or you hate it. The BMW is somewhat pleasant to look at, but very boring as well.

And that's why the Focus is a European car, your argument was invalid and the European car makers win this argument.

  30. +Jethro Vitorio Scultor You mean the classic in the video? The cars I mentioned are hardly classics. I like the E39, it's one of the few BMW's I like (I'm not all that big a fan of the brand). Still, in terms of German sports saloons, I'd have a Merc C63 AMG for 34k euros (which is not much more than 26k pounds).

  35. You want a proper car review? Here's three tested and true recipes: 1) Have a big loud ape powerslide it around an airfield in a cloud of smoke while shouting 'POWER!'. He then points out several ridicilous features and comes to an often surprising conclusion. 2) Have a man who looks like a spaniel drive it around for a bit, then let him say it's too powerful and not comfortable enough and therefore rubbish and useless in the real world. He'll then end up reviewing a different car and liking it. 3) Have a short man from Birmingham drive around an airfield in a car so powerful, it overwhelms him, leaving him laughing like an eight-year-old on a rollercoaster. He'll eventually say something overly emotional but still beautiful about the car, thereby concluding positively.

  43. nature10879 Well, no. The XK is less practical and more expensive than the equivalent XJ, but unlike the X6, it has something to compensate with; style. Lots of it. The X6 doesn't have style; it looks like an overage hippo covered in excrements. That's what makes it useless.
