  8. A scientific theory law and theory are two quite different things, not one a progression of the other. A law describes a phenomenon but offers no explanation for why it would be so. A theory is the explanation for how the phenomenon works. A theory is as high as you can get in science. The law of gravity describes the observable attraction between objects dependent on their masses and separating distance. The theory of gravity is why that attraction occurs (space-time curvature).

  10. Scientism. In actuality it is the belief that science is valid for determining answers for any & every question, including those that don’t qualify as scientific. It gets used as a dismissive insult against any scientific evidence that challenges how somebody would like to see reality; an insult is easier than arguing back but it is not a valid argument.

  13. Most FE'ers appear to be religious, with many quoting verses from the Bible as part of their "evidence". It doesn't intend to portray Christians as pro-FE.

  14.  @elilundgreen  Personal observation. It doesn't imply that religious people are likely to be FE'ers, simply that most FE'ers espouse some form of religion. Possibly this is due to spirituality being more popular in the US than the rest of the 1st World and the bulk of FE'ers posting on here appear to be American (few use the metric system).

  16. Te video has been heavily edited. The only thing FE'ers are consistent on is the belief that the Earth is flat; for any other detail there will be several conflicting explanations all claminig to be the agreed upon explanation. Most refer to stars as little local light that are/aren't embedded inside/outside the dome that does/doesn't exist. Some acknowledge other planets exist, others insist that they are just stars. A few (like your acquaintance) talk about projections be it the stars, moon or both. It's easier to pursue basic principles than play whack-a-mole.

  17. It's beyond FE'er comprehension that there can be more than one reason why they can't see the ship. As far as they are concerned the limits of visual acuity is the only reason the ship disappears. They can't explain why the ship would disappear from the hull up (and the sun from the bottom up) or why increasing magnification doesn't bring either back into view once they have passed over the horizon.

Because the difference in gravity between the two elevations is tiny and the change from one to another is gradual. Explain why you think there should be a substantial change.

Since gravity is a property of mass then any equation with gravity will inevitably contain mass. Neither mass nor density are forces; buoyancy is dependent on the existence of gravity for its vector.

The angle of elevation is the angle to a visible object relative to a tangential line; it’s not a measure of the observer’s elevation above or below sea-level. Sea-level is nominal distance from the Earth’s centre that is used as the default zero point for elevation above or below the Earth’s surface. You can calculate R with sticks & shadows. You’re living in an age when the Earth’s shape has been measured worldwide.

They believe that the sun not only magically floats and magically moves in a circle but that it also magically moves inwards & outwards as the year progresses, producing more & less light to the north. They also insist that daytime in southern winter are short and even shorter still in summer since the sun has a wider circuit. None of their greater observers are willing to go south in case they observe that not happening.

  48.  @juliemunro76  I know far more about the eye than most people. I note you haven’t answered my questions. Why does it never occur to FE’ers to try dividing 360 degrees by 25,000 miles? When a plane is trimmed to maintain a constant altitude (air pressure) then why would it need to keep dipping its nose? Why would a plane lose its eastwards momentum when it breaks contact with the ground? When you throw a ball does it stop moving when it breaks contact with your hand?
