  1. Because as long as Europe is reliant on the US for its defense the EU will never have an autonomous foreign policy. And honestly I dont want to fight another desert war, or justify their agressions again, because some expediency. But worst of all, it costs us a lot. If Merkel and Chirac would have the political power to say no to Bush for his NATO expansion ideas, we wouldnt have this war. USA does not respect NATO for a single moment. Did they asked what others think about them finishing off the Afghan mission? Did they feel bad when they spied on all of their NATO allies? They didnt they just constantly do whatever they want whenever they want, then they cry if something doesnt go the way they want it. This cant go on forever.

And the third thing is that Orban goes too far on thisone, thats absolutely right, he is not neutral towards Putin a few steps backwards and a more Austria like policy would be desirable.

  8.  @stefannilsson2406  Yep, the problem with this, is that coal is coal, it has C-C bonds, while methane has C-H bonds, so when you burn them the C-C bonds gives down 1/100th the energy of a methane burning. So it puts 100x more Co2 into the atmosphere.

First of all Romania would be completely surrounded by non NATO countries, without a chance to resupply, secondly there would be a corridor from Switzerland to Ukraine from non aligned countries, which would give a chance to any single Eastern military to attack any NATO member without notice through this corridor, from Paris to Warsaw anyone, but on the other hand NATO would lose half of its viable logistical routes to Russia, if Hungary wouldn't cooperate. Hungary is one of the most strategically important hub of Central Europe, thatswhy there were wars for 1000 years against invaders here.

But Swedes and Finns didn't held a referendum, as everyone else did, and thats not democratic, their motivations and committment is questionable, because well, the Finns promised battle tanks to Ukraine, and they broke their word, which is not a good sign for future membership, they have some conflict with another country, which should be resolved first and foremost, before the NATO membership is even considered. That some countries went absolutely nuts in NATO, that doesn't mean, that Hungary should accept easier terms than the terms that were golden standards, when we applied, we joined to that organisation, with solid groundworks, not some western agressor's club.

  24. We can wait a few years more. I doubt Putin can maintain Russian economy thatlong, and we can give Ukraine enough to keep them in the game. If they run out of money, they will leave Ukraine, not just that, Russia will break up. Wonder if the Chinese will continue to back Russia, if Trump signs a deal with Russia to retreat from their alliance... they can very easily find themselves between the hammer and the anvil. Would the US pay for Russia so it can continue its war against Ukraine? Not likely. Putin needs this deal more than Europe, if he doesnt get it, then he will face a dire situation, where he have to choose between Trump and Xi, and neither of those choices will benefit him.

  47. One crucial point your analysis misses is that TISZA is not a real party. Tisza is Peter Magyar, and noone else. If Orban would be in trouble he would just call a snap election, TISZA doesnt have representatives along the country, so they would lose out everywhere. Even if everyone would vote for Magyar, the local representatives give a comfortable supermajority to Orban. Besides the fact that if they try to organize a party in 3 months, Orban will just put his moles everywhere into their ranks, because they dont have time to run proper background checks on their candidates, and sabotage them from the inside. The only way how Magyar could be dangerous to Orban is if he organizes a colour revolution and removes him directly.
