  1. No, I think we only had problems with the Russians once, in 1848, the other occasion were the Soviets. And honestly, Im more afraid of giving our energy dependence to Croats or Romanians, than from the Russian tanks, because Russians never treated Hungary as part of Russia, but Romanians and Croats are genuinely hostile nations, who would do anything in their power to cause trouble to Hungary.

  2. Well, no in WWI we technically won against the Russians, remember they quit early because of Lenin. And yeah the Soviets, which technically included Ukraine, led by a Georgian thatswhy I wouldnt mix it with Russians. Well, Hungary wasnt an independent nation under them, BUT they never stated even then that Hungary would be part of the Russian sphere, thatswhere we are fundamentally different from the Poles or the Baltics, because Poles were indeed part of the Russian empire once. And this is not about siding with Russia, but keeping all options open. If we burn the bridges with Russia, that means we have no choice but to rely on the Romanians, if we keep both of them, we have the option to ditch any of them, if we dont like what they are doing.  @JackChurchill101

To be honest we never took NATO that seriously, and handled it as a bluff, which should be never called down, and we know, that after this war is over, you will pack up and go to Asia to wage war against China, but Russia will stay where it is, and whatever it does it can do without punishment.

  21. Which sanction did we actually block? The gas one? Well, we can talk about it, if Croats give us back the port of Fiume, and a land corridor with it, then we will build an LNG port. Otherwise we wont base our energy infrastructure in untrustworthy third party countries, who can block their shipments whenever they want it to, there are national security interests which we didnt give up to the EU. End of story. If the Croats build an LNG port by themselves we will consider buying their product, if its competitive.

No dear Ukraine in NATO was always a US neocon project, which had nothing to do with Europe. I dont say Europe shouldnt have said outright no to such pressures given the unpopularity of that political class in the US. Although that would require some fortune telling since when George Bush and John McCain did that Republicans were their greatest supporters, not their greatest critics. This will all end up noone believing a single word what a US diplomat utters to them ever, and being extremely conservative on any suggestion any American president is doing, because even if they mean what they say, theres no guarantee that the US wont do a 180 on that issua in a few years.
