Problem is, that your media is rather lying to you about these places, don't understand basic realities, historical context and culture what shapes these people just give very crude digestable enemies. Putin is supported by the Russian population, because he made order after Yeltsin, who was the clear cut lackey of the west. He wins the elections democratically and clear cut. He is not afraid of losing a general election, he is actually afraid of a foreign organized coup, and Russians don"t care about the Khodorkovsky kind of people, because first of all, they are thieves, secondly, because they are on foreign paychecks, and Russians simply don't intend to walk back to the 90's.

Putin became the baddie, when he pushed British Petrol and Yukos out of the russian oil drilling business, because they did not want to pay taxes, thats how it started. The interest of capitalists is to destroy any big formation, who are united, because those could pose a resistance to them. The smaller the communities are, the easier to pit them against eachother.
