I dig it. The only car I've driven in this class is the Macan. I think those two are probably more similar than the other German compact SUVs. The Italian GTI on stilts comparison definitely makes sense, though - the Alfa has a little too much sportiness to be considered as a "boring" luxury CUV kinda like you said. I really want to say I'd prefer the Giulia sedan, but darn it if this wouldn't be a more practical option.

The hardest thing about doing engineering from home is staying motivated, probably just ahead of having to adjust our writing styles to be more thorough so my team isn't spending all day pinging each other on Teams to get those details filled in. Spoiler alert - a lot gets lost in translation when you can't meet. Video calls are becoming more natural which helps, but man it's still a weird world. So, if I get an E92, I have to drive it? No problem! :) I've probably been driving 800 or so miles a month even though I don't have to commute. Just running errands and going to the "park" (AKA going for a drive just to get out the house). Anyhow, great update as always, Tedward.

Same here, hard to find a good day for a wash.

@LansdowneMotorsport All depends on what you are used to. Compared to our 330i and our IS 350, the X3 M40i feels pretty fast at least in a straight line.
2
Something about hearing that Lexus startup chime in this video makes me want to take the IS 500 out. Not same vehicle, but hey, Lexus V-8 and same era of when they originally debuted.
2
The pot holes are making a resurgence there too, huh? I nearly hit one of those things earlier this week.
2
@Odghunter lol!
2
I always look forward to the Cars and Coffee runs!
2
I encountered one of those the other day in downtown Atlanta and was shocked when I realized I'd never seen one in person before.
2
Don't do that.
2
If you like the car, test drive it. Sure, the trans is a little dated, but if you like the car, you will enjoy driving it regardless. 4 months in with mine, and I still get a stupid smile on my face when I give it some gas. That 5.0-liter is everything!
2
You know, I low-key wish my senior project could have been a race car. This is so cool. And I honestly love the way that thing sounds and, from the looks of the footage, drives, too! Hats off to these kids.
2
What a great combo of the Eminent White Pearl with the red interior. And what a choice of vehicle. I totally get it. I love this for you, since it gives you the winter workhorse along with the towing capability you want. Congrats!

American V-8s just have a certain roar to them!
2
@TedwardDrives I'm sure Topher will be excited to see the GX in person. Also curious what his video on it would be like, I gotta say.
2
I love these classics on your channel, Tedward!
2
@Kinja_ Right, but I think for most people, they would serve the same purpose.
2
@FructozeProductions Seriously? I've always known that transmissions typically take even longer to get warm compared to engines.
2
@Fructoze Productions I live in the Southeast US. It's pretty warm. But still, it'll take at least 10 minutes after a cold start before the car will give me all it's got. And personally, I'm not going to beat on my car until I know things are up to operating temp. You know, cause I spent money on this car and would like it to last.
2
It's lighter than an M4...
2
Two of my favorite kinds of cars - couches on wheels and roadsters - come together in this classic Benz. You love to see it.
2
To be fair to those saying it primes when you unlock the car, that does exist on some other cars. My GLI, for instance, primes it when I open the driver's side door. Very audible "wree" whirring/buzzing sound. Technology is wonderful.
2
Totally fair point on the sound showing up in videos more than IRL... Almost every car I've driven with piped-in sound seems worse in a YouTube video than real life. However, some are still pretty bad in person. For instance, the 330i's I have driven from the latest G20 generation have all been pretty egregious in their faux sounds, particularly in Sport mode. My former Jetta GLI was pretty bad as well, though it sounded like an engine, at least. And I find the IS 500's fake sound to be equally bad in person as in videos, but maybe that's more of a bummer because I know the real induction note that's being masked by the piped-in stuff. :)
2
It was just a matter of putting it manual mode, or else making sure the car was fully up to temp. It won't give you downshifts under braking unless the trans fluid is fully warm.
2
@vidoga228 OK, don't buy one then. I would probably just get a regular RC F and skip the TE because of how stupidly expensive it is.
2
I always enjoy the car show videos!
2
Looks to be 7,800 RPM.
2
Definitely been "pelted with salt" before - it is pain. I'm moving out of the Midwest soon, and I'm going to miss winter driving - in some ways more than others.
2
@remstesthd6784 I think there's a sound tube that amplifies intake noise. Could that be what you are hearing?
2
Based on the comments on this video, maybe a video explaining the noise during shifts would not go amiss. It seems a lot of people think it's only needed for DCTs.
2
It's wonderful technology. 😁I get way too much enjoyment out of shifting my GTI DSG through the gears. Bonus is that the shifts are faster because of it.
2
Love the trail test. That truck made it look easy.
2
420k subscribers! I'd say I agree with you - the business is going well. It's good to see the 911 again. 😊
2
This is such a relaxing video that I have to imagine this could be a really relaxing car. And yet, you showed it can do the thing if you ask it to. That's my favorite kind of car. Mellow, but can turn it up if I want.
2
It probably isn't designed to fit in these cars because they're on an older architecture than the LC.
2
Some of that darty behavior on the PS4Ses may be the... PS4Ses themselves. I recently swapped the lackluster OE Potenzas on my IS 350 for some PS4Ses, and wow - it really dialed the steering response up. It turns in much more immediately now. Same tire size, too. I sometimes miss having an actual winter - I moved from Kansas City to Atlanta recently - but I don't miss having to worry about having a winter-capable tire. It's January, and I will be driving on my PS4S tires. As long as it's not below freezing they seem to behave just fine - particularly if the sun has been shining on the pavement to heat it up.

@2ZZGE100 Sadly, @Tedward, I have to confirm this. IS 500 owner, and I feel the same way. If I am in Sport S+ and giving it the beans, it will auto-downshift when I brake hard.
2
This is what it's all about!
2
I can hear it in your voice - your career change was a good one. Congrats on 50k and here's hoping there are thousands more waiting to discover your channel!
2
One of my friends used to have one of these ZHPs and swears it had the best interior of any BMW. Other than those leather seats, it just looks good, doesn't seem outdated at all. Though I wonder why the owner of this car swapped out the shifter - supposedly the original is known for being really good?
2
@briane8156 Cool, good info. I guess that makes sense that it would be better than a non-ZHP car but maybe not amazing all things considered.
2
@Kevin-cf8uu my IS500 has full-speed adaptive cruise, even though it has the old cruise control stalk. Anything with Lexus Safety System 2.5 has it, I think.
2
I'm not exactly a snob about front-wheel-drive-based cars (I do, in fact drive a GLI), but having driven BMWs like the 3 series and 2 series coupe before, there's definitely an elegance to the way power gets to the ground that is oh so nice in the RWD cars.
2
He has a video about it.
2
One of the coolest-sounding four-cylinder cars I've heard, that's for sure.
2
Gotta say, probably either an XJR or an S8 for me.
2
This looks like a hoot and a half. You were really going for it. Thanks for the awesome content as usual.
2
@phantomjosh2148 THANKS JOSH
2
This was a good time to actually plug the headphones in. That startup sound is fantastic.
