I would have a 911 with a rear wiper. đ

Totally with you on the whole "driving is the goal" thing. I like looking at cool builds and interesting cars in general, but usually I just want to drive the car. Car go vroom.
2
Kinda like TopherDrives and his Comfort Mode videos?

@VuBeClan RS5, RS6 and a few others do not have DSG transmissions.

My GLI already had swirls when I bought it... and sadly, I don't think I noticed till the next day because of the way the sunlight was hitting it. I complained to the dealer, and they actually made it right and threw in a ceramic coat to shut me up. đ It's so amazing how much more the color pops - and even on camera, I can see the difference with your M3. My car is Tornado Red, so the difference is more of it having a better shine/reflectivity with it being a solid color.

The best-sounding car ever gets a Tedward POV. It's all downhill from here, people. Funny, I never realized you could open the back glass like that. Pretty nice feature.
2
Yeah I also had a neighbor with one. It was not a super attractive vehicle, but it had some hint of substance and class about it.
2
I needed to watch this. Work has been a load of barnacles lately. I have been feeling tired first thing in the morning. I need to make a change!

My family had a '98 or '97 GMC Suburban. Yes, before they started calling it the Yukon. But anyway, ours did look a lot like this Chevy version other than the front fascia and some badges. We then moved on to a 2002 Yukon XL because we needed more seats! Our Suburban only sat 8, if I remember right, but Mom had twins on the way... so 8 wasn't going to be enough anymore. I had a big family. I spent a lot more time in the Yukon than the Suburban, but I do remember getting picked up from school in it and playing Pokemon in the back seat on longer trips.

I actually did rent a Macan Turbo on Turo a couple years ago, and it was a blast! Managed to find some twisty roads, too, and it is fun to chuck it around. It handles really well. Now, I just need to get out to these beautiful California roads with something fun to drive one day.
2
Wow, seems like a fairly lively car to drive! Some fun moments in there... "fun", I mean. đ

I feel like my GTI lives in a weird space of being slow neither slow nor fast.

@sebjebofficial6230 Autocorrect doesn't know what you're (hehe) trying to say. You do. "You're" = "you are" - the apostrophe signifies the missing "a". Anyways... I agree with you. I can't say whether selling the 911 is the right thing to do, but it is going to hurt regardless. I miss cars that I did not need but still enjoyed. However, I'd rather own a car and then move on to something else than just keep it forever and not be able to enjoy it or to experience other cars, too, to the fullest.

â @rickitysplitz7035 I mean, we can go all day on that topic. Technology has improved, and engines have gotten more powerful and efficient over time. My IS 500 with 5.0 liters of V-8 power makes more power than this 5.9-liter V-12, but shouldn't it? The engine is over a decade newer. But it also depends on what you want the car to do. In a Ferrari V-12, the car they are going to be used in is typically a higher-performance kind of vehicle. So, the engine is tuned to be more rev-happy and higher-horsepower. But, this Aston is more of a grand tourer. For that, you want a balance of effortless torque throughout the rev band and decent top end as well. This is reflected in the specs of the V-12 here - 426 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. Perhaps they could have tuned it differently to rev higher or make more peak power, but it may not have driven the way it was intended to.
2
@TedwardDrives If I drive my IS 500 in Sport S+ it'll give me the downshifts on hard braking. Mind you - HARD braking, not half-ass braking. Either way, manual mode is 100% better because I can drive at 7/10ths and still make it do what I want. It is possible the trans was either too cold or too hot.
2
I'd love it as a daily, but honestly, even the S would be more than enough.

You need to have the performance package to get the limited slip diff. It's standard on newer GTIs like Midwest Mopars said, but back in 2017 it was not standard on the base model GTIs.

My uncle has a 997 Carrera with some Fuchs-style wheels that he had put on at some point. I think it was the first Porsche I'd ever been in, so 997's have a special place in my heart.

I love how much you enjoy those wipes. đ

Or, just drive the back roads in the boonies like me. :) But no it's good advice nonetheless. The dead body comment especially! Speaking of front plates, I was driving with my front plate in the windshield for a while now cause I didn't want to drill into the bumper. I got some nifty mounting pieces that plug into the grille and finally have a solution that looks clean and is removable. Hooray for being legal. https://photos.app.goo.gl/F6Dk5sQ6eqy2tc5t8

The return of 911 therapy drives! đ

What do you mean "VW"? A lot of cars with quick shifts do this. Even a Dodge Demon has these upshift cracks.
1
@TedwardDrives There is a sensitivity setting for mine, which seems to help, but still not guaranteed. And, a side effect of turning up the sensitivity is that it'll also turn on when I drive under an overpass or through a short tunnel.

I worked at a Christian school for under-privileged kids one summer - kind of a summer day-school sort of place. It was minimum wage, obviously, and only about 4 hours a day on week days. I basically was just an assistant/substitute teacher, doing odd things around the place, occasionally helping watch kids, hand out snacks, and things like that. It was a very chill first job. Then I started working at a Japanese restaurant the next year as a waiter/bus boy. That was quite a change of pace. Also, the owner liked to blame me for everything - being the youngest person working there and also the only white male working there probably didn't help. But I liked the other people who worked there and generally had a good time. Sometimes it got pretty stressful when it got busy.

Really awesome roads! I need to make the drive up there. I'm in the Atlanta metro so it'd be a weekend trip, but well worth it, from the looks of it. There are some nice roads in the mountains of North Georgia as well if you're ever in the area.
1
I recently moved to Georgia from Missouri, and boy do I miss snow driving. On the one hand, I have access to some nice north Georgia mountain roads, but on the other, I can't go demolish a snow-covered empty parking lot with some slides and donuts. I try not to really slide on the street unless I know beyond a shadow of doubt that I have room, but it's still entertaining to go find a safe spot and experiment.

Regarding 6:56, I rented a 981 Boxster S this weekend and have to agree. My GLI feels like an isolation chamber in comparison. Maybe it's partly the Porsche magic, but a big part of what made that Boxster so fun was the unfiltered engine sound and wind rushing over my head. Convertibles are great.

There's nothing quite like the heated seats coming up to temperature on a chilly day.

If I had to guess, the break-in period is most likely 1000 km, or 621 miles. That's what it is on most "older" Lexus models on sale. But once you've hit like 300, 400 miles you're probably OK. đ
1
 @dennistv598 no?
1
Best Motoring is fun to watch. Looks like another road I'll have to seek out next time I am in Cali. I got to explore some nice Bay Area roads last time, in a rental 911 no less, and it was a fabulous time. There is no substitute for some good mountain driving.

"It's not even that fast, but the 'pop' is just that fun!" - sounds like me when I had my GTI hehe
1
"It's not the hella flush stance boy life that we live today" made me laugh out loud, and I am not sure why.
1
Define boring. lol
1
â @TedwardDrives that's super weird. I could swear they at least had PS4S tires last time I saw one. But that was at the Lexus Performance Driving School, so maybe those were replaced.
1
@carboydorifutoparty3976 It is not meant as a direct comparson... I'm just saying, even a true M-car is heavier.
1
The first time I ever spun in snow was in an all-wheel-drive car. It's definitely not the car's fault - that car, a Lexus IS 300 AWD, was great in snow, maybe a little too good. (And no, don't worry, there was no accident... I stayed on the road, and there were no cars around at the time.) I recommend keeping the snow shenanigans to empty parking lots.

So true how we're used to this monster torque on many newer cars now. This weekend I had the opportunity to drive a 991.1 Carrera 4 for a day, and while it's the base Carrera, it's no slouch. But, at low RPM it's not the most torquey thing! Still, it was fun to drive, especially the few times I wasn't stuck in Bay Area traffic and could stretch its legs a bit. But you don't need a lot of mid-range and low-RPM grunt in a sports car when it is going to be wrung out a lot of the time. I like the smoothness and ease of driving an NA-powered car.
1
@TedwardDrives That does seem like a silly thing to lose one's mind over lol
1
I'm definitely going soonish. Not sure if it'll be this summer or a bit later on, but I've decided. I live about 45 minutes away, so... yeah.

All hail the Toyota/Lexus cruise control stalk

Steering wheel looks pretty small to me.
1
@QuizzyV "DSG farts" or whatever you like to call them are not fake. They actually have a purpose. And they are wonderful. đ
1
@Loothansa I'm pretty sure the only times I've actually heard the sound while driving were on modified cars, or my own car of course. It's there, stock, just not nearly as loud. Also, I'm sure I've heard it from some Challengers and Chargers before since they're pretty loud from factory.
1
Makes me think of the GTI Rabbit Edition we had last year. It's nothing more than a Sport, but with exclusive paint colors and accents on the outside. Kinda neat, but doesn't actually add anything new to the product other than aesthetics. Do I want one? Eh, maybe. But it's mainly for the Cornflower Blue paint color and nothing else. :)
1
This is a timeless 911.

 @TedwardDrives đ

Is it just me or is the steering wheel leather a little worn-looking already? It seems to have lost its matte finish already. Darn it if I'm not really curious to drive one of these. BMW inline six engines are so very smooth.
1
I love that red - no, I love the color combo itself of that red with the two-tone black and red interior. That is a cool spec. Most Bentleys I see are just black, gray, or silver - granted, I don't get to see the interior if I encounter them on the highway.
1
Wow, this car sounds better than I imagined. Being a four-door luxury sport sedan, I would expect a decent sound but nothing exotic - this is definitely more on the exotic side. Love it.
