Really curious what you think about the Potenza Sport if they'll let you test those as well! I'm wondering if those or the Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 would be a better option.
1
I'd love to have a Michelin Pilot Sport 4S alternative, lest they sell out and go on back order. 😂Also, I think it is interesting that Bridgestone chose the Z for this test, since it seems many have complained that the stock tires (ironically, also Bridgestones) are not good enough for the car. My IS 500 is the same way - stock Bridgestones that are just not up to the task of spirited driving in a fast RWD car. Hmm...
1
Also, hard agree on the suspension comment you made at the end. I had PS4Ses on my IS 350 prior, and it felt like the chassis was having to play catch-up with the tires - like the tires were pulling the car along.

There he is.
1
@julianneale6128 Yeah you could say that. Apparently it is very different from the Ford V-6 even if they are based on the same foundation.
1
I love it. It's very Lexus. 😅
1
@D1ldoShwaggins I have an IS 500. Honestly, it's not the quietest car ever. It is quieter than your mainstream car, for sure, but not nearly as quiet as a Lexus ES or RX. However, as a fun car, it's excellent! That V-8 is awesome.
1
Some say that, to this day, the Media is still loading in this Aventador. 😁 I kid, I kid, all the media you need in this car is in the exhaust.
1
@305Nick It is something many people don't like, but I like it. It can be a little rough if you don't drive it the way it wants to be driven. That is, either gently or hard - nothing in between!
1
"Let's go... this way, why not?" Definitely been there when driving around looking for back roads!
1
I have a few chips on the hood of my IS 500 and have for months. But they still look the same - no rust... I guess that proves it's an aluminum hood instead of a good ole steel one like the GX has. 😂 I will have to get several places on the car fixed at some point. I have a few chips on the rear doors as well, probably from my tires picking things up and throwing them at the sides of the car. Kinda crazy to see something like this on a relatively new car, I must say. But, it looks amazing after the repair.
1
@TedwardDrives Looks like it was worth it! Looks factory fresh to me. 😁
1
@supersecularboypants The Supra has the same horsepower rating as the Z4 for 2021.

Chris "Amos" Amos: "It's been a gangster minute."
1
@evilcookiekiller great, thanks for sharing. All the best with your new ride.

I definitely need to make a weekend of it and go up there. I've driven the North GA mountain roads, but this just looks like more. More twisty, longer, more camber. I'm sure, based on my experience, it felt way more intense in real life than it could ever appear on video.
1
OK this is a cool car. I love the color, the concept, the DOG BED... It all makes sense in an RS4.
1
Good points. I've just moved from Kansas City to Atlanta, and I have to say, using the far-right lane is a ticket to boxed-in town especially when traffic is heavy. So many people merge at once on some entrance ramps that I am forced to either slow down or aggressively merge to the left and probably cut someone off. If I pick the slow-down option, it almost always results in my imprisonment in the far-right lane behind folks that are traveling below the speed limit. I admit this is totally due to the fact that people in Atlanta just drive like they are late to a job interview every single day.

I went down to visit family in Southern GA this weekend in my IS 500, and honestly, having the open farm roads to be able to use the power got old after a couple times. There were too many State Troopers around, and the roads were not the smoothest. But! There is something magical about looking to the left and right and just seeing open farmland, and then, I just cruise with some music on. That kind of driving has its place, too!

The N55 is a beast! A friend of mine has a 2014 335i that he's done all kinds of mods to - stage 2 tune, catless exhaust, coilovers, you name it. But I did get to drive it when stock, and even then it was such an effortlessly powerful thing. As a bonus, it sounds pretty mean when uncorked. I like the X3 as well. I haven't driven that generation, but I had a rental 2020 X3 not long ago that I rather enjyoyed. I'd love to try it with a six-cylinder.
1
Side note - my wife's 330i with its run-flat tires is actually pretty quiet. Oddly, what I notice is that the ride is pretty firm. I'm guessing the run-flats are to blame.
1
I second that!
1
This is so cool. Big luxobarge with a supercharged V-8, and it's a bit of a sleeper, too!
1
I put a few gallons of premium into the IS 350 for $4.49 per gallon yesterday, which isn't so bad for the rest of the country, but pretty high for Georgia. And since I've been averaging only like 22 MPG combined, I definitely am thankful that I work from home. Wife has to commute, but her 330i gets like 30 MPG, not terrible for what it is by any means. I definitely subscribe to the whole not following too close thing; any kind of sudden braking is jarring to passengers, not to mention the fuel saving.
1
Now we know how Tom feels about an Audi TT, at least compared to a 993... Yeah that's a tough matchup for the TT. 😂
1
The Track Edition gets a titanium exhaust instead of the standard exhaust.
1
@MPowerSubie12 I mean honestly, the LC 500 is a different thing to this RC F TE. If money was no issue, it's gonna be LC for me as well, but I'm not planning on doing regular track days or pushing my car to the limit.
1
@Maximilianboenicke My first house cost me far less than the options on this car. And it was 3-bedroom. Just saying!
1
@ianholmquist8492 Yeah that'd be a different kind of fun. If we're talking V8 American cars I'd definitely take a Camaro SS because it really does handle amazing well.
1
Had to put the headphones on for this one! To be fair, I should do that more often.
1
I've driven a couple of rental Altimas of this generation, and I honestly like them. Is it for me? Eh, maybe only if I suddenly needed to commute 50 miles a day and needed a dedicated commuter, I'd put the Altima on my list of commuter cars. But, anyway, I really love how easy the car is to live with - everything in the interior makes sense. Nothing gimmicky in the slightest. And I agree with Tedward, the steering is unnatural - it's light and overboosted, but thankfully I got used to it after a couple drives.
1
@GOTTHEFUZZ It's not useless. It actually has a purpose. Deutsche Auto Parts has a video explaining it, maybe check that out if you haven't already. It has nothing to do with torque converter transmissions or dual-clutch and more to do with shift speed.
1
Lol a Buick Century was my first car. What a trooper.
1
My IS 500 has a similar character on start up, especially compared to the wife's X3. It takes it a second to start up - always has. I kinda like it, cause at least the starter sounds cooler than most lol.
1
Wow, two X3s in one garage!
1
Since you mentioned the Jetta, wonder if a head-to-head would be possible? I see tons of normal Jettas on the road and I agree with you, they are bland. ... I recently got a 2020 GLI, so, I guess that makes me able to make these comments without reservation, as a Jetta owner. Right? 😁
1
@DatFinnishGuy How original.
1
Auto start stop in a "Nurburgring ready" AMG, what a funny thing to see.
1
@TedwardDrives Can't stop progress I guess. Heck even my four cylinder GLI has start stop. I don't mind it as much as I thought I would.
1
Wow, I want to drive one of these now! That sound is just perfect. I mean let's be real, I wanted to drive one before today.
1
@go4384 T. Edward
1
@DatFinnishGuy Seriously no one cars if it's BMW or not. It's a two-seat sports car with a B58, can we not just drive the thing and appreciate it for what it is?
1
@DatFinnishGuy The car would not exist without BMW.
1
@DatFinnishGuy I doubt that.
1
My uncle used to have one of these, and he made similar comments about the mid-range torque. He said it just seemed to have power all the time and was addicting to drive fast. I could see that!
1
I don't really consider myself to be an extrovert, but the stay-at-home order has been challenging. I probably need to be more diligent about staying home - i.e. making fewer trips to the store especially - but I also have a still new-to-me GTI that I find excuses to drive since there's not much else for me to do for fun other than play video games... and let's be real, a drive in a new car is always more of an experience. At least I can stay isolated if I am in the car I guess. :)
1
I had some annoying creaks in my GTI's suspension, and I was contemplating replacing the bushings and/or control arms. Personally, those types of noise make me cringe and would drive me to do something about it soon. However, I realize how silly that is in the grand scheme of things - if it drives fine and isn't a serious issue in the making, I should probably suck it up and deal. Knowing does help a lot as you said at the end. :)
1
I would say to try the X3 M40i as well. The M will be more hardcore, but if you plan on driving this all the time, the only reason to go X3 M would be the outright speed. The M40i is a fun car that is a little more comfortable than the M.
1
@crisl9518 yes! They did the "complimentary detail" without asking. Pretty sure it's just a crappy car wash and some tire dressing.
1
Literally one of the best cars I've had a chance to drive was an SUV - a Porsche Macan Turbo. Rented it on Turo for a weekend, and that was too short. Such a well rounded yet very entertaining car.
