  9. I cannot see Turkey getting involved as it could end up with Russia using nuclear weapons. Why Russia would not have enough weapons for full exchange with the US they most certainly have enough for their own region. They may not hit Turkey directly but they could use them on troops or positions within Ukraine.

  12. AAL gross profits for 2021 was $2 billion and for 2020 was -$5 billion. And the years proceeding that their gross profits were static and not growing. And their debt has been growing at 18% per year for the last decade. If there was no pandemic and loss of business they would still be in very serious trouble. Buffett got out of airlines before the pandemic because they were becoming too volatile. If they do not get a bail out they are going under.

  15. It is not about hiring people and is about companies that are US based running the system at a technical level. There simply are no easy replacements for companies like GE, ExxonMobil and Halliburton. You cannot just hire people to do what they do. It is like saying you are hiring somebody it to replace BMW or Microsoft.

  23. The War is not over because the Russian military is not a technologically advance force. I know people in the west think that it is but most of the Russian forces are operating on pre WW2 standard equipment and tactics that suit that standard of equipment. Russia tried to do what the US does which is precision high volume warfare but it failed miserably because they simply do not have the depth of industry nor the actual technical capabilities to perform. Russia nuclear arsenal is based on warheads that are from the 1970s with some of them being 50 years old. We have been sold this idea through media for the last 60 years that nuclear weapons will end the world so it is very difficult for us to get our heads around the fact they have to be delivered and they have to reach a site that matters.

  24. It is the real world industrial development of ai not the academic world making claims or some tech magazine. Even Kurzweil with his claims do not proclaim that we will have super ai tomorrow or that all jobs are going to be replaced. Kurzweil states that the turing test will be complete in 2029 and from there another 15 years of development will take place before we reach a point that we today simply cannot see beyond which he calls the singularity. The iron in all of this is people call Kurzweil a kooky theorist yet those exact same people will make claims that ai will take all the jobs tomorrow even though Kurzweil is telling them to calm down it is not moving that fast.

Ai is very easy to predict the frame work and maps are already there but the claims of big leaps to take all our jobs tomorrow are absurd and ChatGPT while an improvement in chat systems is not an ai that can truly take over anything. It will be a good tool in the information space but not robotics.

Kurzweil is the most optimistic of the theorists yet he has the turing test being complete by 2029 and with a series of developments from that date. His analysis is based on the mathematical compounding of the algorithms and hardware combined. Kurzweil goes to great lengths to stipulated that there is always an over optimism caused by certain breakthroughs to the point that it then creates pessimism in the breakthrough at some point only for it to emerge more capable in the future.

People will go along with political climate change when they are living a comfortable life with all the mod cons and will be apathetic about many policies even when they are informed that they will damage the economy. But when all the mod cons are removed and life is harsh and very boring people will not be so apathetic. For several European countries it maybe too little to late.

  32.  @suple87  There are no countries in Europe that can take cars of the road and then replace that will public transport. European city transport is good from a service point of view but that will not cut it in transnational crisis events like this. What has kept the EU afloat for the last few decades has been German industrial output but that is not going to be the case when the energy cost of production has a tenfold increase in cost. We are watching the decline of the EU happening in slow motion.

  38. That is not even close to being true. The congress voted through The Housing and Community Development Act of 1992. That created a series of finance regulations that forced banks to loan to risky potential customers that would not qualify under normal lending procedures. It also made banks open up a series of investment avenues for risky credit that never existed before. People love to blame Reagan and Clinton for all of this but they as president do not control the congress.

  45. The US uses most of its old gear for training and test firing just to keep the skills up. That is something that most countries do not do as it is very expensive to do that.

  46. Heating is not the issue in Europe. It is the energy for industrial manufacturing that is the issue. Cost has already at a base level increased 10 fold. German industry probably has an overall value coverage of about 20 times production but that is going to come under real strain over the next 2 to 5 years and god knows what sort of crisis could be piled on top of that.

Since the foundation of the Russian federation it has always been a political system of violence and force. The first set of elections almost caused a civil war.
