  2. I've been a subscriber for a bit and I also happened to buy my (first) house recently (last month). I didnt go through nearly the stress you did but you're so right that it was such an abnormal environment and constantly one thing after another. I got laid off the afternoon after I signed the offer for our house that morning. And we kept running into issue after issue. But we are really happy and once we are moved in, I know any regrets will feel further and further away. I've read accounts of other people having their house hit by trees or tornadoes the day or week after moving in, or houses burning down the week before closing on a sale, with all the current owners' belongings packed up and burned with it. It is unthinkable to imagine all that can go wrong and you really truly couldn't have predicted it. You weren't a fool, you just dont have the ability to know the future and that's just the tough reality. You have made it past a lot and I really hope once you move, that you will find a lot of solace in it all and recover your health!

  3. Rick Beato did a video recently where he discusses why new music sucks. His argument is two fold: it's too easy to get and it's too easy to make. As someone in their mid-forites, it certainly struck a nerve. Worth a watch.

  15. I have worked 3 decades in a competitive business environment. I must admit that I had relative enjoyment for less than a third of all these years at work. I met some very nice people and I have also met absolute assholes. I knew very young that I would want to retire at a young age. I was able to do so at the age of 50. I had accumulated enough of what is called “fuck you money” and believe me, I was able to say to a couple of bosses that if they continued putting pressure and more work on me that I would quit. It felt so good!

  18. You are right about landlords especially if they are mom and pop. If you pay on time every month they don’t want you to leave. Some mom and pops clean up the houses themselves and really want to avoid that. One other caveat it’s not just paying on time. If you don’t bother them with phone calls or complaints or stupid repair requests that anybody can fix themselves you have tons of leverage and they will try to keep you as long as possible.

  19. I ordered the Breville. When I awake, I am immediately glad for two things: I am alive, and now I get to drink coffee. 😜 The vet adjusted my Milo's Vetmedin by ordering one dose daily and working up to two doses daily. He seems to be tolerating the med using this approach. Fingers crossed.

  28. Congrats on 25k! I’m like this with my job! Been with the same company 18 years and if I don’t have a new job within 6-12 months after the last promotion I start to get anxious. Same with my weight. If only I was X lbs I’ll be happy. Thanks for this very relatable video.

  29. I think back to my once big credit card bills and what I had to show for them and to this day, can only think of very few things I spent a lot of money on that was worth it. Most of it was shit I didn't need and well, I don't remember what it was, so it wasn't important in my life. I cut out so much and am so much happier for it. I am going to keep my cars for as long as I can, and I think that can be many many more years if I take care of them. The new cars are not only too expensive, but they have too many bells and whistles that can go wrong for my liking. Cars are just insanely expensive and so are cosmetics. Wtf. I went into a very nice box store that sells everything cosmetic, looking for lipstick. The one I thought I liked was $35.00. There were some for even more than that, one tube of lipstick. I ended up at the Dollar store (now buck and a quarter store). I didn't find the exact color I wanted, but for a buck fifty, it will do. Anyway, home cooked meals are best, not only cheaper but you control the ingredients. Some of the food you buy today has a shelf like of...several years.

  30. Recently my sister in law gifted me a spa day and was the best gift ever! And for my one year old daughter I planned a photoshoot in the beach and the sunset with all the family at the end we ate pizza was super fun and relaxed better than throw a party with a bunch of kids that don't care about my baby, definitely experiences are better than things.   31. Such great tips….credit card spending can make you money if you have self discipline and pay your card off every single month. I use mine for EVERYTHING and get cash back on each purchase. And I’m pretty disciplined at buying only what I need with exceptions being just that, not the norm. It’s great to get money back on stuff I needed anyway. One suggestion I think could be a number 11 here…it’s super important to know WHY you are saving. Saving is hard today. I’d love to see you do a video on why it’s important to save (aside from saving for emergencies). Sometimes people think what the heck am I gonna save for?

  32. i am definitely "your people".. tho i am much older, my life and living philosophy has mirrored yours- (i even lived in your city for a few years back in the 90's).. if i may, some advice, if you want to guarantee future income, concentrate on number 4- but yes, first you need to earn actively before earning passively, and the one way to guarantee that is to stay where you are..a place like Toronto will never run dry of ways to make active income, if it did, that would mean everything's gone to shit and it wouldnt matter anyhow.. when you are able to live anywhere you wish, without money worries, that is when you've made it- according to our philosophy.. love your vids.. thanks Nicole

  34. I’m on the verge of obsessive when it comes to being clean personally, I could never wear the same pants as I would outdoors though. I feel that jeans and pants feel icky after lounging around in them so I’ll wear sweatpants, but they feel far too casual to wear out. The point about not just wearing your boxers in the house though is so true, I always find it weird when people say they don’t bother wearing pants around the house.

  36. About plants you dont really need to spend money to have a forest in your house. Most of them can be propagated from a leaf or from a branch. Last time i went to a plant shop i literally got some leaves from the floor just to experiment (i asked if i could take them, the clerk thought i was crazy probably) , and now after an year i have a big pothos neon and philodendron + tradescantia for free. Oh also ivy, i dont get it why it's so expensive in shops when you can find it literally anywhere and you can propagate it from a small branch.

  38. Great vid as always, thanks Nicole. I noticed I've already been implementing some of the tips you mentioned like putting the item on a wishlist and leaving it there. The part about everything getting thrown out at some point really made me think about how pointless some purchases really are, and how we should prioritize only those things which matter most to us. One thing I've been doing to cut out useless purchases, as a person who likes crafts, was to see whether I can make those things I saw and wanted to have myself. And most of the times the answer is yes. I might be a bit biased though as since i own a small business i already have some supplies which makes it more convenient to make the stuff I want.

  40. The "How many hours" trick is GENIUS! I don't have a problem saving, I've never have. It's a game to me and the game is usually more fun than anything I want! My goal right now is to pay down our mortgage, and I'm hoping to reach that goal in 3 years. The son of a friend of mine got his first job and is saving some of his paycheck, but he usually spends most of it on meaningless items like candy and video games. I told my friend that it's most likely because he isn't working toward a goal like buying a car or saving for an apartment.
