  1. You are completely correct. We bought a front loader washer back in 2005. Spent over $1000 for it. It broke after just two years. The repair guy told us to replace it as the parts were more than a new one. I immediately bought the most generic top loader. Best $50 I ever spent. That one lasted more than 10 years. I always buy a model or two older. Never the newest. You are very wise. Love your videos.

And let me tell ya, it really was the easiest switch I've ever done (both decision-wise and process-wise) and I cut my phone bill by 70%!   8. I actually enjoy this daily vlog type content and love real "what I spend in a week" content (rather than lifestyles I don't relate to). I'm also in Canada and I love watching regular vlogs from a few people around the world (or other parts of Canada) just to see different grocery prices / bills. I find it interesting even just to learn the groceries/meals people regularly shop for and see how they differ from me. I'd love more videos like this! When I hit a quarter of a tank, I feel the need to buy gas!!

  14. You should expand on this, there are so many junky money grabs out there. I'm surprised you didn't mention Internet providers. Basically, anything that is constantly promoted and advertised is guaranteed to be a cash cow for its owners. Read your receipts! College degrees occupy a special place in money burning hell. Part of what has happened is high school has been so dumbed down that having a high school diploma is no guarantee of fitness for an entry level job. Many employers use a college degree, doesn't matter what degree, as a basic barometer indicating that an entry level candidate can be trained to become an asset for the company.

  15. OK thank you I needed to hear Work is not my whole life. I’ve actually got a new job at the job I’ve been in I took because it’s work from home. I’m in the medical field and dealing with nasty patients and micromanaged boss telling me I’m not good enough has really gotten to me to the point of like a nervous break down. I really need to read that book and keep repeating work is not life work is not life thank you.❤❤❤

  16. I worked at valu village for 6 weeks. Most disgusting job ever. Items are hung up right out of bags they are donated in. This stuff is not washed as some people believe!! The gross or unsellable clothing are packed up and shipped to third world countries, this is absolutely not helping them. You can watch videos on how their shores are piled high with this garage from richer countries trying to cheap out on getting rid of it. Definitely big scam. Thanks Nicole for another eye opening , educating video.

  20. My husband bought me a Ninja coffee machine that makes lattes and iced coffees a few years ago. It was about $200, and I thought it was crazy to spend that much. I had a cheap $10 coffee maker before that which I used daily, but would go out to get lattes and iced coffees. Fast forward to today. I haven't set foot in a Starbucks, or the like, since. I used to stop to pick up specialty coffees on the way to visit a friend in the nursing home. Then I started making them at home, putting them in reusable coffee mugs and bringing them with me. I also have a friend of mine over for coffee and can make her whatever she wants. It has saved so much money and I LOVE this thing!

I had done this once before for the dishwasher and was successful however totally forgot about it as a resource. I dreaded calling the plumber. Voila, your weekly YouTube saved the day. I was the “perfect” daughter, student, worker, etc my whole life, until one day, at the age of 45 😱 I realized that I will only live once and that one life I was living was very fast coming to an end. Then, I decided to say YES to all and any adventurous offer I received that year, so I had my first tatoo, I smoked pot, I paid for a mammal reduction that changed my body to the best I had have in years, I traveled, I kissed every men that wanted to kiss me, I learned to paint and had a a lot of fun. For the first time in 45 years I allowed me to start living without double checking my decisions and regretting about doing things that I considered as irresponsibilities before. Happy birthday Nicole!! I am so happy you had this realization when you are so young. Now Im 50 and living my best life. Im still a hard worker, a good person and a responsible woman, but now I allow myself to feel free and happy every day. Equilibrium is the word I was missing in my vocabulary. Hope you find it and feel better soon!! ❤

  28. As a Sales Manager for a Toyota dealership, I love this video. I am debt free because of people wanting to be in debt buying vehicles all the time. That Rav4 you have will last another 10 years easy. One point is to remember that all cars are not built the same and to have the lowest cost of ownership long term, reliability is key... there is lots of 3rd party sources for this, but Honda and Toyota are your best options for long term ownership without expensive repair costs

Today when I went to work, and the girl that usually annoys the hell out of me started her bullshit, I kept reminding myself that it didn’t matter this wasn’t my real life and it would end the minute I punched out to go home.   31. Before I buy anything for the house I evaluate if I have something I can use without buying something new. I’m doing much better not impulsive buying because of it. I’m learning to make due with what I already have. It’s very refreshing and saves my wallet.

  34. Needed side gigs after a divorce to keep my house. Did that for over 5 years. Then just this summer had the brainwave to trade in the job that I love and all my side gigs for a job that I probably won’t love but won’t need side gigs. Made the change and now have one job and time for my favorite hobby. Miss the job I loved but this is more sustainable.

  35. Hi! I also consider myself a minimalist. I get rid of material clutter when I've already gotten rid of "mental clutter" and so my mind is at peace and the process is easier. It's not about throwing stuff away just to be able to say i'm a minimalist or frugal, it's about making a good use out of stuff and then letting those things go. I usually throw out the damaged items and sell pretty much the rest. I also don't expect to "earn" money with those items rather make space, give them a second chance by giving them to another person and getting back a tiny bit of money along the way! :) Interesting videos, thank you for your work ^^

  38. I bought my 1st house in 94 and it costs 110G I put 10G down and paid it off in 8 years! It seems impossible for young people today but I think if you really apply yourself you can do it! Great Video Nicole!

  40. Dude, I'm 100% with you on this. I just told my boss 4 days ago that I was there because the company paid me. He was going off on a rant about "The Company" and our place in the Company and how grateful he is to be a manager and then he asked me, "You've been working here almost two years. You've got management experience. Why don't you try to move up?" That set me off on a tirade about how if I wanted to be a manager I'd be one, and how "The Company" is as important to me as what someone I don't know had for breakfast. They pay me to be there, so I'm there and I do the EXACT amount I have to to continue getting paid to be there, but if someone or something better came along I'd be out the door so fast it would leave fire trails like the DeLorean in Back to the Future. He stared at me in utter shock for a minute and then just went into his office.

  41. A lot of people are saying "nature" as a third place, but that is just as isolating. The point is the lack of human contact and interaction. Another problem is that work has become less collaborative. For ex, I was watching an interview w Alfred Hitchcock, and he was talking about how they created the sets, etc. on his films. Today all that would be CGI, instead of people working with their hands as a team all together.

  45. "We are not even close to done yet". Sadly, that is true. Everyday a world full of people wake up and say "how can I get more money and do even less to earn it". As for corporate culture, yup. I've spent a career as a software developer. And you repeatedly see the same pattern, young company has good ideas and treats people well and work is a blast because you have autonomy. Then the company grows and either gets bought by a corp or becomes a corp and things go downhill. That's a signal it's time to find another young company and start the cycle over. On my 4th and final cycle now. Company is starting to fossilize but I don't care because I'm a few months away from retirement.

  46. Oh my GOD do I resonate with the alarm clock anxiety. I've spent years waking up to a rigorous academic schedule for my undergrad + grad school years; constantly thinking I slept in for an exam or skipping important deadlines by mistake. As a result, I'd always put 5-10 of those alarms on my phone to wake up up properly, and I'd always bolt upright in the morning in a panic a few moments before the sound went off. I lived that way for years. And then I bought one of those light alarms and I actually slept properly. I can VIVIDLY remember waking up naturally to the artificial light one morning and almost crying in my bed b/c I felt no anxiety and actually well rested. For those who've never experienced this product, PLEASE BUY ONE

  47. it's really a shame that society almost forbids you to openly discuss how many children you can afford. not to mention that when the parents have more children, they have to work harder, leaving less time for each individual child and often ending up not having a deep connection with them. there is a big connection between money and the time you can spend with your children. it is certainly not fulfilling when you wake up at 50 and realize that your 4 children are not interested in you because they hardly spent any time with you, while you would have had a loving family life with 2 children.

  48. I always try to study and understand humans and figure out the insane and dumb things they do and why? But one of the most important things is to find your tribe! People that you have so much in common with and get a long with! Some of my childhood friends today are full of hate, racism and homophobia etc. I used to think they were normal!
