  4. Another youtuber showed the wording of the legislation HMRC are relying on. The wording was not clear cut to me.. But why are HMRC suddenly threatening to claim back dated tax ? They knew this was happening years ago. Two things are clear. In the greater scheme of things, the total sum of money will be relatively small. And the investors hit by this will be people starting out on their investing career. For the most part, Berkshire Hathaway excepted, most investors who have grown their portfolio or incone will not buy fractional shares. That makes HMRC appear to be petty jobsworths. It would probably be simpler to change the rules to allow fractional shares. Encourage new investors, do not deter them.

  8. Great video Mitch! Listening to your story it sounds like I'm coming from a similar upbringing to yourself. Currently reading 'Rich dad poor dad' and recently picked up 'The 4 hour work week' but would love to give 'Think and grow rich' a read next if you're willing to send out a copy! My goals for this year are to build up my emergency fund, help out family with bills/unexpected expenses, and to help my partner learn how to invest. Also beginning to increase my earning potential this year to help aid the other goals!

  9. HMRC is not the goverment, its a non-ministerial department so doesn't have a politician running the joint. They will enforce the legislation as is. Usually in their favour until a court ruling clarifies or new law changes exiting legislation. The government will need to go through the process of amending or creating the law in order to make it clear. I can't see HMRC going to the expense of investigating individuals ISAs to make what is just pennies anytime soon, and imagine the issue has popped up in an interview or meeting somewhere prompted by the Autumn statement.

  50. Very inspiring Mitch! I've followed you for a little while. Most of the people my age late 20's either flat share/ rent, or bought a modest property with a long term partner just about (I note most before pandemic prior to houses rocketing in price and when interest rates were very low.) I decided to move home to save for a house deposit and last year went straight into index funds investing. These are my accumulating years before I move back into the city again onto the ladder for a corporate job hopefully with some assets growing in that time. I'd love to hit 100K.
