  12. The problem with society is a lot of people teach their kids to be virtuous and nothing else. They sometimes also say that if you are good, good things will happen to you. Which obviously is false. This is why people get disillusioned with virtue. Kids are told that being virtuous will make other things like success happen in their lives. It's just another lie that society tells kids.

  19. I call these emotional triggers. Something that test your frame. If you can catch the trigger and identify it before you open your mouth then you've successfully control your emotional state. When having intense conversations with my son's mom actually started catching the triggers. And then brush them aside to move on to the actual point of the conversation. Women usually settle for the reliable Provider male who deep down they don’t necessarily desire but know they can depend on. Under these circumstances husbands are always going to be unfulfilled, the guys women truly desire aren’t going for marriages, they have too much leverage. Every woman I ended up getting into a relationship with offer me something first. Not just sex but they took the time to figure out what I like rather than making demands on what they want. I never entertain women who come across like that.

To paraphrase, even hockey has penalties for instigating. Women fight by yelling, crying, and insulting men and then are surprised by a man being angry as a result. To the woman I might love, I will fight the world for you, but I won’t fight you for you.

  28. This advice about attractiveness is similar to what I heard when training to be a flight attendant. They told us, the passenger doesn't care if you are a wonderful person who volunteers at the children's hospital, sings in your church choir, and helps out at a soup kitchen...they only know what they SEE and experience from you in real time. Meaning you better look good, smile and give good service. I think showing up for a date is similar, especially if it's an internet date--the other person only knows what they see and how you act...your back story about being a good person is just that, and won't ever be gotten to if you aren't attractive in the first place.

Emmanuel Kant's argument; 1- it is impossible to know whether a person deserves to be happy or suffer because you never truly know what their aims and intentions were when they acted. 2- Even if you should make others happy, there's no way to precisely know how to make them happy. 3- What constitutes suffering or happiness in most non- extreme situations in not clear. 4- The only way to improve the world is by improving ourselves, because the only thing we can experience is ourselves.

I went from feeling sorry for myself and trying to “fix” my brain to eventually realizing that this is something that will be there to some degree for the rest of my life, and it is up to me to manage it. Now I would consider myself a mostly happy person with a thriving business, a lovely wife, everything I need and most things I want… still, the depression comes back sometimes in waves, but now I have a much better mindset about it and I see it as mostly annoying rather than debilitating.

If the former that's a win for you, if the latter then maintaining no contact is still a win for you.   46. I can tell you that abiding the suffering until it abates is exactly how you get through chemotherapy, which I finished (12 sessions) just last week. Now I just have to wait out the side effect of severe neuropathy. Absolutely no fun, but here I am, seven months passed and only a couple more to go as I still need to endure some testing to ensure the cancer is gone and then go back into the hospital for surgery to reverse the damn colostomy bag I’ve been wearing for seven months.
