  1. I'll have to remember that UL fire demo video. I work in a high rise and the door to my group's area is a fire door but people leave it open all the time. We do a safety topic every month and you better believe I'm going to do the importance of fire doors next haha

  2. About 17:15: Small cars are not inherrently more deadly, bigger Cars make them more deadly. Big modern SUVs might be safe to drive, but they are a safety desater for every car (or pedestrian) they crash into. But overall: Great video!

  3. As for the part about stair wells. Most buildings in high rises have designated fire escape stairwells. These are made of metal and concrete with fire doors. These are often required to have a positive pressure atmosphere which keeps smoke and fire out. When evacuating always use fire escape stairwells. Never use any type of “convenience” stairwells as they are sometimes called. They are not rated to protect you from fire or smoke.

  5. I bought both types of detectors for each location in my home when I moved into my house 4 years ago. All from Kidde and I have had multiple failures. Going off continuously at night for literally no reason, waking my young daughter up and traumatizing her as well as 10 year batteries that failed way early, and many false alarms. So I would not recommend going with Kidde products despite the enticing 9th gen marketing you mentioned in the description (I also think they declared bankruptcy). I will probably look at swapping out for the first alert. Really cool video!

  6.  @Lam  It's not really your fault, it's not really your viewer's fault either (I would agree with OP's comment). As a YouTuber, you need to clickbait at least to some extent to survive the attention market playing field. It partially worked, but you've got electricians driven in hordes to your video, instead of the general public, pointing out the obvious, i.e. GFCI = good, no PE in the socket = bad. Still, I learned that Japan's domestic home are still lacking a protective earth but compensate by mandating GFCI for all circuits. Mission accomplished, I guess? 😌

  8. Personally, I prefer Euro NCAP over IIHS. IIHS focuses too much on occupant safety, Euro NCAP however focuses more on pedestrian safety and outright preventing accidents(driver aids). If IIHS is such a good standard, I believe USA will have less traffic deaths than Europe for sure.

  13. I have the A119V2. Love it. FYI Arizona heat is tough on dash cams. The GPS adapter sets the camera back off the windshield and has eliminated the heat issues with my camera.

  17. READ MORE for notes after 2 years of running the VIOFO A119 "V1". I bought the ORIGINAL A119 based off your review 2 years ago! That unit is still running strong and has taken over 1,000,000 minutes of video. I have the original V1 "pin style" GPS mount and it still works great, though I could see how some would say it disconnects when wiggled loose. I STRONGLY recommend VIOFO A119! Thank you Car Cam Central for your original video. Notes after 2 years of use for the original A119 - V1. - the software offers higher resolution settings than the hardware offers. This conflict will trigger the "SD Error" message and continous beep to notify that it is NOT recording. No big deal, so.long as you don't ask it to record in 2k when it can just HD. - I use and recommend a 128G memory card. - It can handle the temperature. I live in the Midwest and heat and cold extreme days can reach extremes of -10° to over 100°. Then consider that heat increased by the trapped heat in a vehicle. The original unit survived two years of these extreme weather and only shut down once after my truck was shut closed, parked outside daily, in the sun, during a week of 100° temps (130°+ in vehicle). Once aired out and cooled off, it powered right back up and has been going over since. - I DO NOT use the GPS feature as it can only make you guilty of speeding, nullify your insurance claim, or make you at fault for an accident. - I do use the microphone as it catches honking, music, and talking. THIS GOT ME OUT OF A TICKET once: I had been pulled over for faulire to wear seatbelt, written a $60 ticket, and I WAS wearing my belt. I knew I couldn't prove I'd had it on... I kept a copy of the video because I thought it was 'cool' to have the traffic stop on camera. I watched the video and the AUDIO off my camera had the 'click' of my buckle latching. It was enough in court to drop the ticket. Win! But that was the first real time I needed the video in 2 years. -insurance companies offer a discount on "permanently installed" dashcams. Be sure yours is adhesive to the window and the cable tucked-in and they may count it. Plugged into USB cig lighter port. Depends on your insurance. - if you push the "Hazard" looking button to trigger an 'event' recording, it starts recording and will protect the next 30 seconds of video from being deleted. However, it will not protect the immediate proceeding incident after which you push the button in response to. For example, if someone cuts you off in traffic and then you press the 'hazard/ event" button it will begin immediately recording a 30-second protected file. The protected video will show the events that occurred as you push the button and after. It will not protect the incident itself since you had not yet pressed the button. So unless you press the button in anticipation of something crazy happening, the crazy event will not be stored as a protected file, but will be accessible if the card is removed and file is retrieved before it is overwritten by loop recording. In short, if you forget to take a video off that wasn't protected, it will get overwritten.

  20. 8:10 its actually called a "fluvial point bar" water slows depositing sediment creating the point not a peninsula :D and the direct other side of the point bar is the "thalweg" where the water is moving fastest eroding the river back. Excellent summary of Flood mitigation

  21. So what happens when it runs into a Cybertruck? I’m worried about this potential vehicle mass and height arms race, since the taller heavier vehicle is often more safe in a crash, since you experience less deceleration, and expose the weaker upper cabin section less to damage.

  25. ​ @P_RO_  it's definitely counterintuitive. The whole time everything was about how quickly each type can detect the smoke/fire. The obvious choice would have been detection speed comparison not escape time which is the reverse of that.

My SEAT Leon ST (VW Golf 8) from 2021 has extended passenger protection, so it will tension the seatbelts (electric motors) and roll up the windows almost all the way up if open to avoid lems to fall outside but still let the pressure from the airbags to exit. A pretty cool option that should be standard on all new cars 🙂

  35. Surprised you did not reference the IIHS 50th Anniversary Crash Test of a 1959 Chevy BelAir against a 2009 Chevy Malibu. That video makes the case better than any description how the IIHS has saved lives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtxd27jlZ_g I was involved in a frontal crash where the safety systems literally meant that my wife and I could walk away. We were in a 2009 Audi A3 when an American Full Size Pickup truck crossed the double yellow line and we had an almost perfect head on collision at about 40 Mph each (total 80 miles per hour closing rate). I do not know what damage the pickup had, our A3 was completely destroyed forward of the A pillar (as designed), from the A pillar back you could not tell it had been in a crash, the door gaps were still perfect. The German engineering of the passenger compartment and front crumple zone did their job.

Its worth noting that right now we're on the cusp of a Renewable Revolution, and all things related to renewable energy are hot topics which are getting a lot of global funding right now. Everything from EV's, to shipping, to solar and wind and other methods of generation, to storage and battery chemistries. This area is seeing a ton of growth and is well poised for someone in your position.

However, the fact that the IIHS does not consider lightweight vehicles as safe is indicative of a larger problem, wherein cars are being designed to be dangerous to other motorists, as well as those outside of motor vehicles due to excessive weight.
