There are segments of each which present with birth defects and psych disorders, neither of which invalidate the binary of all mammalian species. Developmental sex disorders are not separate sexes/genders. Gender refers to the sex assigned at birth and the social aspect of being male or female, respectively. Male and female are biological categories which are fixed and permanent. Too many are inappropriately conflating the variability of personality traits and temperament (Neither of which is gender exclusive, hence effeminate males, butch females and tomboys) and are incorrectly attempting to use the term as a synonym for/with gender
