  5. In the vote for president, many people's votes don't count. If you live in a heavily red state, you know the Republican will get all the Electoral votes. If the state is blue, the Democrat will. Only Maine and Nebraska award the Electoral votes proportionally. Unless you live in one of those two states, or a swing state, your vote doesn't matter.

  8. If you think that all the people, who supported Trump, are racist, and supported him for racist reasons, you really don't understand the magnitude of the problem. An uneducated person used to be able to live comfortably in this country. Now that is no longer true. Companies only employ people part time, so they don't have to pay for benefits. This causes unskilled workers to work two or three jobs, and they barely get by. Trump took a page from Sanders' book, and told them they were suffering because illegal aliens were stealing their jobs. That is why they are anti-immigration, not racism, but a dire economic situation. The cause and effects are far more complicated, but that is what a populist demagogue does, assign blame on one group, and give a simplistic answer. A real solution would be to undo everything Reagan did, to recodify the tax structure, to make it more progressive again, restore the safety net, change labor laws so part time workers get benefits, restore pension plan requirements, and impose stiff fines on employers who hire illegal workers.

  15. When this horrible woman was up for confirmation for the appellate court, Feinstein said "The dogma is strong within you", and was soundly castigated for attacking her faith. It was a legitimate comment, as religion is supposed to stay out of the functioning of our country. So, Feinstein was told to play nice this time, and she did. Now, idiots are on her case for doing that. If she had mentioned what a bad choice this dogmatic woman is for SCOTUS, she would be reamed for that.

In Kiryat Gat, Israel they have laid high speed fiber optic cable in the new parts of town, but just by Intel and the other big companies. In a brand new apartment, walking distance from Intel, the only way one can get internet is through a TV cable company.

  35. Every time Trump says nobody could imagine a fatal epidemic, I think of the Hong Kong flu. That was in 1968-1969, and killed millions of people. He was a young man then, surely he has some memory of it. I don't expect an illiterate to read about the Spanish flu, but he lived through the last pandemic. Why doesn't he remember it?

Now, with the peccadillos, bribe acceptance, and general thuggish behavior of the current president, the GOP acts like he is clean. We may take all three houses of power this year, but times change, and the Republicans might be in power with a Democratic president again. If you give them the power to declare all his appointments and actions null and void, they will use it.

I wasn't even alive when our troops were first stationed in those countries, and I'm old.
