  2. What do you mean THOUGHT? They HAVE gotten away with this. The damage is done. They've won. DeJoy did exactly what Trump told him to do. The damage isn't being reversed. The USPS isn't getting the money it needs. Nothing has changed. This is a great big political show, with no real results.

  4.  @Mister_Peep  Unfortunately the rich have also put a massive amount of barriers up to prevent the American people from being able to demand these liberties. Yes, people can hold rallies and protests, but then they get played off as troublemakers and small groups of extremists. Unless ALL the people can rise up together (preferably with guillotines) and take serious action, nothing's going to change.

  5. They're reviewing the incident. Really? Here's what should happen. You have clear video evidence of the police breaking various laws. You arrest both those cops and charge them with the crimes they committed, going for the harshest penalty because people in positions of power (like cops, government officials, etc) need to be held to the upmost extent of the law (after all, they're supposed to set the examples). The police department then should issue a public apology to those involved. And investigation should then be held into the entire department to see if this crime (and what others) have been committed by any other cops on the force, and the full weight of the law should be brought down on them. Of course, that would be how any country with an actual government and rights and such would handle the situation. This is America, so I'm sure it will simply be a matter of them killing some time before saying "the cops did nothing wrong" and at most getting a slap on the wrist (and being told to be more subtle about how they break the law in future).

  6. I agree. There shouldn't just be two parties to vote for (with a chance of winning). Sure, there's other candidates, but because they're not part of the big two, they'll never win. And that's disgusting. We don't need something like India, where there's hundreds of people all running, that just gets chaotic. But there should be a good dozen or so different candidates. We shouldn't have to see one candidate per party either, like Bernie stepping aside because Biden is thought to have a better chance of winning. Both should be able to run.

  10. So... they took 18 months to study a problem scientists have had the answer to for years now... yeah... that's already off to a great start. They have goals they want to work towards in the next 10-20 years... even though massive action needs to be taken RIGHT NOW. Other countries have already made huge strides in this regard. We have a country like Germany that switched to wind power as their focus, who make so much energy that people actually get credits from the government for using up the excess. Along with the government making money sending their energy to nearby countries. Something the US could EASILY do with the vast amounts of usable land (NOT natural, untouched land, but the mined out destroyed lands that are now just sitting empty)... but they refuse. Because as always, the only people with any power in the US are the ultra rich. Big oil doesn't want America switching to clean energy, so they put a stop to it. Sure, the CEO's of these huge companies will die alongside everyone else... but they don't care because they'll die rich, and to them that's all that matters. I'm in Canada, and we're just as bad up here. Tons of very easy, cost-effective solutions, but nothing ever gets done. It's nice that the Dems have a new proposal... but just like all the others it will be buried and forgotten.

  12. @Suicidal Vet They've actually removed most of the psychological and personality testing that used to be part of the police officer requirements. So right now you can walk in with a swastika on your arm and a confederate flag after smacking your wife and they'll just hand you a badge. It's basically a matter of them asking you if you'll abuse your power as a cop, and as long as you answer no, you're good.

As the video explains (and those who read various versions over the years) the real moral of the story is that race doesn't matter. Mermaid or human, we're all the same, and focusing on race is something we all need to overcome.

No word on why, but I figure it was so that they could reinforce their presence there. Basically, "look, they're starting fires, you should bring in more cops".

  19. The big issue with "they were fired" isn't even just the fact that these criminals aren't facing the prison time they should be serving for their crimes. It's the fact that "fired" for a cop simply means that they get fired from THAT ONE LOCATION and get brought into a new precinct somewhere else. So they're still cops, just in a different city or state. So they're not fired, they're transferred.

  21. What's sad is that these few good cops are the minority. So many cops are out there actively causing the riots, putting bricks out for people to throw, going into crowds undercover to try and get people worked up into a frenzy. While these are nice gestures, if these good cops want this to end, then they need to bring the bad cops to justice.

  22. Actually, America is a overall a horrifically poor country that's in more debt that pretty much any other country. It happens to have some of the richest people in the world living in it though. But as they and corporations there pay little to no taxes (as well as getting massive returns on taxes they don't pay), the county is spiraling down economically. Having a handful of ultra rich people hoarding all the money is the worst thing you can do to a country's economy.

  27. "They lied about the death tolls!" Actually, yes, they did. The number of infected and people who have died of the virus are actually FAR HIGHER than those reported. Because most poor people can't get tested, so they're not showing up in the numbers. There are countless people dying of Corona who aren't being reported because they live in some of the poorest areas of the country.

  29.  @102wingnut  While I agree that there is a lot of good intent in (some of) the laws and the constitution, sadly they're mostly ignored or openly opposed by many politicians and the rich. It's good that there are laws saying X is wrong... but unless people in power are actually held accountable to those laws... they're meaningless. If politicians were ever held accountable for their actions, I think the US COULD be a fundamentally good country. As it is now, it's simply a cesspool of corruption and hatred.

  30. Officers charged... officers charged... officers charged... Okay... that's all well and good... but how many are actually CONVICTED? It's one thing to say that they did something wrong and are being charged with a crime... it's another to see if those charges actually carry any weight, or if they'll just end up being dropped (or just a slap on the wrist) and they'll just go back to being cops in some other district.

  31. This "cop" and all others like him need to be locked up for the rest of their lives for abusing their power. Period. There is NEVER any excuse for an officer, who is supposed to serve and protect, to abuse their power in this way. They should be hit with the absolute strongest punishments. The more power you have, the MORE the law needs to apply to you and the more severe the punishment for breaking it.

  32. The facial recognition technology doesn't work on someone who's not a white male though. At least, not very well. That's been brought up in the senate, where the companies responsible for the tech have admitted as much. It's built and tested on white men, the people building the tech. When used on black people, it has something like a 92% error rate (I'd have to go find the video again). Basically to the tech "all black people look the same". Even with white WOMEN, there is a huge discrepancy. This tech just doesn't work, and likely won't work for many years (they would have to actively research the tech around all facets of humanity, and that's not "cost effective" enough for them).

  33. 1) Every cop involved there needs to be arrested. 2) The people at the department responsible for putting out the "he tripped and fell" lies need to be arrested. 3) None of these cops should ever work again. One of the cops involved was one that was previously seen "taking a knee" in support of the protests. Guess that whole thing was just a pathetic PR stunt, wasn't it? Shows how little they care, no matter what act they put on.

  34. I see lots of people saying that the shirt should say something like "Pale Skins" or "White Skins" or whatever. Basically something intended to be racist like the term "red skins" is. The problem is, then you're basically being just as bad as they are. His shirt is NOT racist or derogatory in any way. There's nothing offensive about Caucasian. It's a proper term. "First Nation" or "Indigenous" would be more appropriate terms for Native America people. He's basically displaying a perfectly acceptable shirt, that racists are getting offended by. Rather than an actual racist shirt that is purposefully offensive. It's essentially allowing the racists to incriminate themselves, rather than provoking a response. Does that make sense? Now, personally, yeah, I'd have no problem with a shirt that's openly making fun of white people. But I appreciate what he's done here.

  35. Yes, most US legal and civic documents need updating to be more clear. Part of the problem is getting agreement on HOW to update them. You know the Republicans would basically burn the Constitution if they could, or just change it to "Republicans can do whatever they want, everything else is illegal."

  37. So the deputy and teacher (or whatever she is) both need to be fired. The deputy needs to be brought up on charges of threatening a minor. Also, they have absolutely no right to detain him. If he wants to leave it's completely in his right to do so. The most they can do is contact his parents/guardian and report that he left when he should have been in class.

  42. I'm sure some have lost people, but they probably don't care because it's not them. But there's been some of these protesters who have died, and their families turn around and blame the nurses (that the deceased was protesting against by blocking hospitals) for not doing enough to cure them. Others have claimed that those who died after being at protests were poisoned or killed off by the government and other insane ideas. Simply put, these people are stupid, and honestly, the world is better off without them.

  45. Actually, countless people have fought for the removal of these statues for years. But now with the reach of the internet to actually educate people on the injustices going on and the massive attention brought to it by recent events, it's gained massive momentum. Before there would be petitions and rallies and proposals, but there were far too small and never got any media attention (maybe the odd throw away article in the corner of a paper somewhere). And the Republicans would just quash any attempts to do anything. Now, with the spotlight finally on important issues, something can be done.

  47.  @JodySoul  Agreed. Maybe not go as far as India with it's 100+ parties, but a good 5-10 parties to choose between and keep each other in check would probably be a good idea. Here in Canada we have three main parties, though only Liberals and Conservatives really get any power. The NDP are always the third wheel. Even though the NDP are the only ones with logical ideas for fixing the country's problems and not just trying to give more money to the rich by gutting the poor.

  50.  @ozwunder69  Actually, it's not so much because certain people wouldn't vote, though that is also a part of it. A big part is because of the corruption in the American voting system that PREVENTS certain people from voting. Mostly the poor and minorities. You go to a rich white area and everyone will get a ballot and many opportunities to vote (some areas have a voting station every few streets). Meanwhile in poor areas and areas made up of mostly minorities (which in America is basically the same thing) you might have one polling station available and people there have to drive 3 hours to reach it. They do everything they can to ensure that only rich white folks get their say. It's why Trump's suddenly so against mail in voting. They're doing it because people can't safely vote as they normally would, but it's going to allow people who previously wouldn't be able to vote (because of the system making it practically impossible for them) to be able to finally have their say. And Trump knows that if everyone can vote, and not just the rich folk in his pocket, he's done. So he's doing everything in his power to try and stop it.
