Sam the square cells are much bigger then the orginal cells in the model S. Tesla is doing this to improve energy density with each new battery as it removes the outer case of several batteries. The other issue is wasted space between cells you simply can't fill the volume as well stacking cylinders together as you can when you stack blocks the same size together. The question o would have with the photo you showed of these batteries stacked together is can the cool them from the top and bottom only? Thermal management is my concern for the cell design you showed stacked square together unless it is actually built into each cell. But my take is these are bigger square cells worth no wasted space between the cells and no cooling pipes between the cells taking up space as you have in a Tesla pack.

I want the same thing. Unfortunately the parts we want are the expensive ones mainly the motor and batteries able to pull the load. The things you can do without don't add much cost.
2
Glad to hear she held them to task and got the lawyer involved. This is the only language they understood it will take a class action case to fix this for the rest of the people involved
2
@evmike71 that is a catch 22 the 400 volt system that Tesla owns and doesn't want to upgrade to 800 volts per Elon's comment at the latest meeting is probably largely responsible for the delays in the CT release as the "fast" charging is too slow to deliver enough power to the power hungry CT at 400 volts.
2
@rogerstarkey5390 did you read the title of the video??? I am positive you can't prove that every member of the EV design team is still employed after Ford fired 500 engineers.
2
@bru512 lol Tesla buys there batteries from Panasonic and many other companies with a co venture same as GM and Ford. BYD is the only one who actually makes their own batteries
2
@Leafbinder lol you definitely don't know history
2
I would be more impressed if there was a profitable pickup truck in production for tesla with this comment otherwise it comes across as someone scared others will succeed where he has failed.
2
@incognitotorpedo42 I am willing to bet the time from Prototype to production is far shorter than the vaporware years for the CT to date.
2
@iareid8255 what part of off grid power do you not understand? I have a well pump 2 houses and a small farm with a couple dozen cows drinking off my well so I suspect my demand for electricity is larger than most households.
1
@iareid8255 solar has low availability? Do you live on the dark side of the moon??? Here on planet earth we have plenty of sunlight.
1
@iareid8255 I am ar 44 north and my solar system works just find. Google puts the UK at 55 north so sure you will have a Slightly shorter days in the winter and longer days in the summer. But the UK also has access to offshore wind that I lack. Renewable energy isn't a one solution fits all future. Which is a good thing. It means we won't all be competing for the same resources we will be choosing what best fits our needs where we live.
1
@iareid8255 you must be paid to be so consistently in denial. Renewable energy works plenty consistently for me the sun hasn't failed to power all life on planet earth for billions of years. I suspect it will continue for the rest of my life. For it the sun fails in 8 minutes time we will find outself cold and in the dark dieing anyway.
1
Given where the issies are it is probably as simple as a paint preparation issue in manufacturing
1
@sourav jaiswal it would be irresponsible of Tesla to not maximize their profits which is something they have shown to understand with each model they have released. I would be thrilled to see their priced come down as a consumer but I don't expect caplistist to pass up profit if they where going to do that they wouldn't have such a high profit margin today.
1
@Car-guy307 someone else already bought all 20 something they had for sale.
1
@linphilip6389 also add funding the oligarchs
1
You fail to understand capitalism. Tesla has a fiscal responsibility to maximize profits for the share holders. The 100% tax on the imports sets the minimum price of the EV built in the usa. The share holders could take Tesla to court if they didn't charge equal to the cost of the making the EV elsewhere plus the tariff. To fail to include the tariffs in the price for a non tariff vehicle would be a failure to get the maximum profit for the shareholders equal in dollar value to the tariff itself.
1
@jakecease sorry it sucks but the first trucks won't be low end they will be targeted at the maximum profit like the duramax. I bought my duramax in 2005 when they where $45,000 with the quad cab. I can't afford a new truck right now but I figured you subtract the $7500 tax credit from $70,000 and it is a good price compared to the alternative which is really the duramax at the high end of the market where they are targeting for the first releases. They will easily sell all they can make for 5 years
1
This sounds like a lot of energy until you realize the usa uses 4 Tera watts so 0.6 Tera watts is a drop in the bucket.
1
@andrewsaint6581 then the company doesn't need a 30% profit margin and should stop profiteering off the situation
1
They won't sell in the USA with a 100% federal tax on them.
1
If the current speed is 20 minutes and you go to 5 minutes then you are in fact going 4x faster. Basic math is definitely not your strength 5x4=20.
1
@vanrozay8871 too many companies have manufacturing capacity in china. BYD will figure out the loopholes once they decide the market is worth getting into. Right now Europe and Australia will take all the cars they can dream of making. But that will change.
1
@vanrozay8871 sure but 2027 is 5 years off I think by then BYD will be sucking up some of the market that was GM and Ford is my only point that Tesla won't get it all.
1
@vanrozay8871 I am hoping that BYD makes a pickup with V2H technology I can afford because I can't see either ford or Chevy forcing the dealers to not price gouge for the first 4 or 5 years the market is just too big. I won't buy a CT if it doesn't have V2H or LFP batteries same with the other. I need the ability to use the truck as a battery on my small farm.
1
I am waiting for that truck hoping it is affordable and sold direct from the factory to the customer in the USA to avoid the dealership markups.
1
The oligarchy wants nuclear power to keep energy as a commodity. Energy independence will stop energy as a way to transfer wealth upwards in our society.
1
@markplott4820 the history of how they got there is the road map we have to judge other companies become EV manufacturers by in the USA do it is completely relevant that Tesla lost money for years when people complain about other automakers losing money in the same market. Put your Tesla fan club membership aside for a moment and you will understand the point.
1
@markplott4820 I see you put your fan club membership on full display not putting it a side to see reality.
1
@markplott4820 nice outing yourself as a troll.
1
The same place you will find the ICE for that price the uses dealership
1
You would build them because you committed yourself to it when you took the pre orders. Don't offer something for sale if you are not happy with the profit margin. That failure should have consequences.
1
@ConstanceCox if you don't like their products don't buy them
1
Probably not it usually takes 6 months to a year to get valid data from industry. Companies don't want their current financial data out there
1
No one fast charges at home as no one pumps gas into their car from a bulk tank at home.
1
I always thought if quality was Job 1 at ford it showed how bad they do with everything else. I keep hoping BYD will sell an EV pickup in the USA.
1
@jamesvandamme7786 given the price they are selling for in china and the price Ford and Chevy are selling for the tariffs still leave them less expensive
1
@mrgurulittle7000 lol it isn't 1960 anymore the vast majority of the things you buy where made by Chinese capitalists for the last 3 decades atleast
1
@johnb7430 apparently no more risky than buying from an old line like GM.
1
@mattferguson9109 the failure is a known degradation per cycles. A google search would show you but I am guessing with a 80 mile range per charge 100,000 miles will see that drop to less than half.
1
@xiaoka you would know more than I do. I was always basing that on the conversations I had with upper management about old manufacturing lines as an automotive parts supplier back in the early 2000s. Upper management told us we needed to upgrade because 20 years of support was required but they never pointed to any actual law to back their claims. I argued we where better off to phase out the line in question and let a different supplier fill the market with their newer more modern line ours wasn't worth the investment. At the time we needed the staff and budget for the new product that replaced the old one anyway.
1
This is American caplistist welfare for the wealthy. Tesla is owned by the wealthiest person on planet earth they can afford to pay full price for land. This is the tax payers funding the wealthiest person on earth.
1
@kylek1556 we live in a caplistist society. You are living in denial of what happens when you allow the wealthy caplistist class to control our society. This is the result of late stage capitalism.
1
Check out Art Burman's work the reality is we are nearing the end of the fracking fields. There isn't enough ff left to justify these terminals
1
Someone seems to have just figured out how caplistist markets work. That is what letting the Free market set the price means. You charge the maximum the market will bare.
1
@davidhumeston5292 globally the market is 66 million autos per year. It will take many more EV factories being built to meet that demand
1
@rogerstarkey5390 I haven't seen any numbers on the newer cells
1
😅 just lucky so far.
1
BYD should simply become a BEV manufacturer only.
