  4. As with anything... pretty much, if you are promising something, don't rely on other people to deliver and do it for you. If you are some kind of prodigy and have a some kind of mastermind and a plan all inside your head you wouldn't need to rely on other people but rather steering them in the right direction. Elon Musk is just a lucky con artist /cars salesman there's literally no genius other than convincing investors and gullible people that he is the prodigy which he is clearly not.

To be honest it's only his second launch and it did get progressively better than the last time, but alas as admitted by Musk himself there were more to the second launch that had met the eye. i. e. He had mentioned something wrong happening at t 27 seconds, and also a launchpad needed a minor, yet repair... just after a single launch. That's not normal repairing your launch pad after the first flight, and a huge red flag, which in simple terms means that the cost of launching, would be more than they had originally anticipated it, if you have to do a minor repair after every single launch... But again, he did show an incredible progress, let's wait for the third launch, then it would be easy to extrapolate, because this time, based on his previous experience, it should be a flawless test launch. If it does turn out to be a flawless launch ( i. e. accomplishing what his second launch was supposed to accomplish) then he is on a good trajectory. And if it fails again... you could basically write it off and guarantee Elon going bankrupt within a few years... So I am excited and can't wait for the third Starship launch.

  9. Yeah , I got a little bit disappointed that Thunderf00t didn't go into more technical details for it... Like the claim is just so preposterous (same as his other claims). Aside from just building a robot itself (which is already impossible) he doesn't have the humanoid AI which is another integral part of the project which is even harder than building a robot itself (which is already impossible, with the characteristics that he claimed).

  10. Surprisingly that's actually not a bad idea. It would actually work. And we already kinda do it already on some things like trains etc. If you have an uninterrupted internet connection with Starlink. It would work perfectly fine to pay someone in India to drive for you.

  16. I didn't see that rally, but if it's true, it's actually quite scary. It means that it will be the same type of goal as NASA's race to the moon back in the 60's. Which means that it will be an overblown budget... Expect tens of millions of dollars of taxpayers money to be channeled to Musk in his effort to land on Mars... Though I still don't really get how humans would be able to land there (remember it's not just landing, it's also getting back, is the important part). So they would probably just make a case of landing a Starship with robots on Mars, and make it sound way more profound than it is... But it still would cost billions of dollars of taxpayers money though...

  22.  @kecuthbertson  so they didn't know how venting works? didn't account for it's velocity? regardless. They haven't reached orbital velocity. That's a fact. You can say that they "didn't want to in the first place", just like they didn't want to land a supposedly reusable rocket. It doesn't change the fact they that didn't reach it, and therefore haven't proved that they could reach it.

  24. Yeah, as Destin has said it himself, a massive communication issue. They can deliver people around the Moon's orbit with an SLS rocket ( supposedly), but to land them on the moon they need another rocket which they had contracted to Musk's Starship. So landing is not happening, but flying around it is plausible.

  30.  @woopsserg  nobody was laughing at the booster landing (since it was done long time before him), everyone was doubting his launch cost prices, which are now obviously were dubious. The Russian rockets which are not reusable cost much cheaper. It's 1,2 billion rubles for a single Soyuz 2,1a launch which is 12 million USD per launch, that's dirt cheap, nothing even comes close... with a Falcon 9 and that is including all of his "reusability advantages" which supposed to "lower the costs", though admittedly Falcon 9 takes twice as much payload. So the actual cost with the same payload would be 20 - 30 million USD to match the Russian pricing, so basically he still has to halve the price on his Falcon 9 launches to even match the Russian pricing (with non reusable rockets). The question is, can he? It doesn't seem that way.

  36. I'm not sure that they are "succeeding" with regards to the Russian rockets, they had great margins on them. All they did, just reduce those margins to basically match Elon Musk ( same as Chinese rockets). As far as I am aware, they can still reduce the price if Elon somehow manages to reduce it as well. But they obviously want higher margins, so unless there's any competition , the prices won't get reduced and as far as I am aware the price of a launch of those type rockets got frozen at around $60 mil atm.

Moreover there was a slide from Space X where they compare supposed V1, V2 and V3 rockets, and for the V1 Starship rocket (the one that they are testing rn), they put a "payload to orbit N/A" ( not applicable). So either they are trying to hide the number, or it can't even deliver anything into orbit at all... Regardless of the reality, we are now waiting for the V2 design rocket which is supposed to be able to deliver 100 tons to orbit (fingers crossed), yet we don't really know how it will perform, because it hasn't been built yet...

  50. Something which is distant in time is actually hard to definitively say with certainty. But the shape of the earth is obvious. Our daily lives wouldn't function if it wasn't roundish, and you could test it within an hour too, without any sophisticated tools. But with the rest of them, we might as well be wrong and don't know the answer. Because nothing would change in our daily lives - except frustrate a few geologists and biologists ... that's it.
