They were pure Surface Action ships to counter the Soviet Kirov class battlecrusiers. We needed a ship killer and Naval Gunfire platform. The Aegis ships are not apples to apples.

So it's safe to say, there was no long-term logistical planning. No one two years ago thought they'd be going to North Korea to get ammo.....🇰🇵😏
