  1. Mark Cuban had a good idea which of course will not be taken up: send everyone $2000 a month, but put it on a card that can ONLY be used to buy things or services. So you can't put it in the bank and you can't use it for utilities, but you can buy whatever you want. Puts the money directly back into the economy, and people would be able to survive. Like I said, though, no way they'll do it.

Remember how utterly WEIRD the American experiment has been in terms of human history. Accept that the chances of that experiment actually working out and lasting is very small considering human nature and how our self-obsessed, domineering species tends to behave, for the most part.

  36. Wondering, David, if you're going to talk about the recent report on sexual abuse allegations in the Southern Baptist Convention. It's a MAJOR scandal over there - decades of abuse of hundreds of victims not only covered up but secretly tracked and protected by the administration that said they had no power to collect any information. Really horrible. (Though I am enjoying a big slice of schadenfreude pie here. After so long of their sneering about being better than the Catholic Church, it's nice to see their noses rubbed in the dirt of their own criminality.)

  47. In Japan, you can own a gun but you can't have it in your home or carry it on your person. It must be kept at a government-run firing range, the only place where you can go and shoot the gun. In Switzerland, you can own a gun, you can have it at home, and you can use it in the countryside to hunt. But you cannot CARRY it anywhere between your home and the countryside without it being in a locked case, unloaded.
