The minute the deal was signed firms that understood its impact shifted supply and stopped using GB as a land bridge, since Jan trade from GB to NI has sunk through the floor it all goes Cherbourg - Rosslare in fact the EU and Ireland have been prepping for no deal the port has been expanded and the routes to NI have been improved. The DUP have only 12% backing in the latest poll and NI businesses are desperate for the Protocol to be fully enacted and the longer this goes on the worse that figure will get as NI prospers as GB suffers th full shtshw that is Brexit.

The SIPP change I believe is to roll back the Millionaire pension tax break the Tories put in in 2023.   12. The protocol is already in action just kind of in a soft way, the businesses in NI have been realigning their supply chain with the South away from the UK because Brexit. Why the Cons and the DUP are having a meltdown is the plan was to use NI as leverage, the assumption by the Brexiteers was they could someone either force the South to leave the EU or break the EU market and still keep frictionless trade. We derive no benifit from them anyway the way government gets short term money in for leasing to then give huge tax breaks and other benefits to fossil companies means there is huge public subsidies to create a failed business model which we subsidise. Tax breaks = corporate welfare as in socialism for corporations and the rich.

I have solar and thermal solar and also made the effort to double insulate the house when we had upgrades done a few years back. Investing in insulation and an energy source that is completely disconnected from the wholesale energy price is the best investment I ever made on current prices my capital cost will have repaid itself in 8 years.

  41. My brother lives in Norway just north of Oslo its been up to -28 The problem is our infrastructure isn't designed for ultra cold or over hot or monsoon conditions even in Norway this is strange weather but at least they have appropriate levels of insulation

  43.  @belindataylor4600  debt to gdp was 62% when Labour left office for most of their term it was 40% the rise was due to the banking bail outs Debt to gdp by 2016 was 82% Austerity was still crushing the economy Osbourne decided to lower corporation tax it produced no visible increase in economic activity and went straight to debt by 2016 debt ratio was 92% so in today's money 10% represents 310 billion where now at 99% debt to gdp and to pay for Trickle down and Austerity policies that haven't worked for 13 years your tax base will rise from 33% to 37% The only time the tax base has been lower in the last 3 decades was the short period of 2016 to 2019 at 32% which added billions to debt

So what are the effects of taxing graduates to the hilt and a policy that punishes those that wish to take a University degree then importing the same same skills from the Indian sub continent on cheaper wages depressing the wages from the top and middle which pushes wages down throughout the economy. Surely we should be importing workers to do jobs at the bottom end and training up people in the UK to do the skilled jobs?

  47.  @ruairi110  The EU don't need political union the Brexiteers have handed Ireland economic union, it doesn't matter what the Unionists want the major supply chains are already changed and trade NI to GB is through the floor. The UK government can't abandon the protocol all they can now do is gaslight the Unionists over it because it's too late, the only time they could get away with this was a no deal that fleeting window is a long way in the past.

  49. @strakermidwich9679  A lot of our plants haven't gone dormant till recently due to abnormal high seasonal temperatures and last year we lost our entire apple and pear crop due to a late frost and I mean really late. Abnormal weather events affect the food chain in a variety of ways most notably making it more expensive so mock all you like as you pay more for less
