The whole reason he started SpaceX was because of the massive disparity between the cost of a rocket and material costs. No body came to his with some design asking for money. Moreover, there’s never been an orbital rocket that has a reusable booster.

  37. @Stein Mauer Tesla is the only company working on a general solution to autonomous driving. To that end, they’re the only ones working in vector space, like animals (including humans) do. Teslas are actually calculating how they think the world around them will be and planning accordingly. All other autonomous cars work in image space and just reacting to the environment around them, while driving along their preset routes. Machine learning is a technique, so of course other companies are going to be using it.
