Here's 1000 calories of grilled chicken breast, THUNK, it's like 23 ounces of chicken, almost a pound and a half of chicken, you're going to be eating on that for the rest of today and part of tomorrow, and you won't be hungry for like 12 hours after that. That's the power of protein.

  8. It's one of the features of having trauma from being an adopted child that can be somewhat framed as a positive, it's really easy for me to dissociate lol. I remember being bored at work one day, just staring into the far distance, eyes diverged, just letting time pass and ambient noise pass me by, and a coworker brings me out of said reverie by shaking my shoulder and asking "How do you DO that?!" Huh, do what? "Just, turn off like that, for minutes at a time, how do you do that?!" Coping/Defense mechanisms are fascinating.

Buying imports devastated US farmers. I get my milk, eggs, butter, vegetables, flour, cream, cheese, all within a 20 mile range here in the midwest, cheaper than the store.

Meanwhile, as a municipal government employee running a water lab in my water plant making water people drink every day: "These reagents are expired, but are they TOO expired yet we need to order new ones, no, OK then".   48. As someone who works with FEMA in my job, really the ONLY thing they can do in an emergency is RAIN MONEY. Oh you have flooding, keep your receipts of what YOU spend to deal with it, we'll make you whole on the back end, 18 months from now once the forms are approved. Fema is NOT showing up to fill sandbags. FEMA is not giving your flooded neighbor a spare room, or opening a shelter and manning it, nope, local charities do that and get funded by Fema, eventually. Often it's local organizations and individuals who just DO IT, because if you wait for the feds you may be waiting a while. My Mississippi River town flooded in 2019 and we're STILL waiting on Fema and National flood insurance program reimbursements/funding. We're just now spending MONEY FROM COVID, in 2025!
