  2. @isimperialist  is human desire subjective? To a point. Is the quantifiable value of a good subjective? Absolutely not. It doesn't matter how much I personally value something, if I can't afford it I can't have it. If I (like all humans) need food we produce food to serve the community so they can continue participating in said community. The cost is entirely objective and dependent on factors like labor and scarcity of said available food. You can have a desire for something all you want but without labor its nots getting done. Thereby, making the value of labor the single most important facet of production.

  3. @isimperialist  i am not confusing anything. I've already addressed this point in another community discussion. You can't subjectively value any commodity (say food for example) without taking into account the objective labor time socially necessary to produce said commodity. Without labor no commodity can be exchanged and therefore cannot have exchange value. Also, if there is more of something which can be more easily produced it will typically (though not universally) result in lower prices. This itself is a statement of objectivity. Ppl do not desire food. They require it. It's a human need. The subjective value of food comes in the dish itself and how long it takes to prepare and now difficult it is to access the ingredients.

Ppl don't eat food or make dinner for others for economically advantageous reasons unless it is to compete on the market as a restauranteur. They do it because it serves not only a physiological need but also a social one.

  5. @isimperialist  except you objectively haven't. You've unknowingly disproved your own argument by acknowledging that ppl "work" towards acquiring what the desire/require. Work? Hmm, if only we knew what working meant? Perhaps labor is a component? Again and again, this ridiculous straw man of overall time (length) being the value of labor... That's not what the labor theory of value stipulates. The socially necessary labor time given to produce/provide a good or service that has utility to society. That's how the labor theory of value works. Since you don't understand that, id suggest you stop making claims about things you aren't educated on.

  7. I first saw his stuff in highschool. He always rubbed me a wrong way. Individual businesses should be able to discriminate who they employ and serve though. Edit: and you aren't going to "reeducate" me. Men and women are not the same and thank goodness for it. Racism will always exist as it's natural to prefer similarity. Socialists cannot adopt progressive talking points into their cultural revolution or else it will destroy the very values you claim to uphold.

  8. I definitely don't think we should behold ourselves to any "ism". I don't adhere to the idea that because something isn't ideologically coherent doesn't mean its not logically or rather functionally coherent. I definitely don't want family run businesses or individually owned businesses to be eliminated. But I don't want land to be privately owned. And certain things like healthcare, housing and energy should be government run. Though I realize, socialism does not mean "the government does stuff". My point is, being ideologically loyal to socialism, which is variable, isn't wise if it doesn't realistically solve anything on the ground. But that should be said about anything. There are plenty of criticisms I have of socialism, all the various kinds, but I do lean towards it more than capitalism. I don't like sticking to one or the other but using both as is needed.

  11. Poverty and struggle dont make people sad. Humans throughout history lived in worse conditions and depression wasn't a major problem that we know of. Isolation, lack of family and friend connection, destruction of the family unit itself (whether nuclear or multigenerational), constantly comparison to others doing way better and living lives we wish to experience a fraction of... that's what leads to loneliness and depression. I am a conservative. I always will be, likely always was. Conservative values like family, discipline, brotherhood, self sufficiency, gender roles and community are important to me and more importantly, necessary for society. All this said, the culture conservatives advocate for is destroyed far more by capitalist society and its individual focused viewpoint. Socialism in my mind is far better at maintaining and stabilizing families and communities. But the hedonism, the shamelessness, the lack of personal discipline and self restraint... it is because of rhese things socialism could never last long. That "red pill garbage" as you call it, is exactly what needs to become mainstream for socialism to thrive. Traditional gender roles are necessary for society to exist. Cultural and ethnic diversity/immigration is also a recipe for disaster and the destruction of society itself. Ppl can and should have their own nations, which are socialist preferably, but they need to remain there. Keep their sovereignty as we do the same. Many people can't coexist. Many others can coexist but can't share the same space for any extended period of time. If you're a progressive (this goes for anyone) you're supporting a culture that benefits capitalism. If you're a conservative, you're supporting an economic system that doesn't care about your family values or self sufficiency. Logical consistency is not the same as ideological consistency.

The Palestinians are not indigenous, they are the settling colonizers. Israel was gifted back the ppl which had been displaced and had their homeland conquered. I am not defending Israel or even the Jewish community, i am simply pointing out the facts here which for some reason you are choosing to ignore. you are intelligent and therefore this comment you made is certainly not a mistake but rather a choice to lie, Disappointed in you, comrade. Labor is necessary no matter the system and the need to extract resources and use them for societal purposes will always exist. Therefore, costs will always exist and quantifiable means of determining them will also exist. Also, if the means of production are socially owned the importance of exchange value is greatly diminished in favor of utility value.

  19. @StephenGleason0  it's not established inherently via private property. If I want to make you a blanket or a chair I will if I have the ability to. The resources used don't belong to me, I simply had access to them via a store. I then made that blanket or chair for you because I wanted to for no personal economic advantageous reason. The point is, replace Walmart (or wherever I can get products to make new ones) with socially owned distribution facility where I and others can use what is available to make things for ourselves and others based on need, desire etc. the economic problem is ppl who don't have the capital or the time to spend making things for others or themselves despite desperately wishing they could.

I'll know what to produce based on the need for such an item existing, say a blanket to keep warm or a chair to sit down in. Is there a socially necessary need for such a product? How will I know how to produce it? Through instinct? Through trial and error? Through education passed onto me? Why would I not know the scarcity of things? The ability for me to produce something myself or for a corporation to do so is dependent on the amount of resources available for extraction and the available labor pool capable of mixing said labor with said resources to create a product that will be used by the public.

I won't be building through a mountain because that's preposterous. 3. I do have factor prices because we have factors of production like availability of materials, amount of labor and the time required to train labor, and the number of regional planning/cooperative enterprises that exist. You still don't seem to understand that exchange value and utility value are not the same. Utility value is based the socially necessary labor time and exchange value is dependent on the ability to make a profit off a sale on a private market.

There would be no historical development to this point. Factors of production exist independently of whatever economic model is the dominant form.

Our constant interventionist policy and our obsession with regime changes in nations who have we resources we want, definitely are right to be bitter against us. I don't know what immigration policy has to do with it though. Especially considering any nation we do exploit has much stricter immigration laws than we ourselves do.

It doesn't address the fact that long before European colonisation there was no innovation, there was no development of society, despite having endlessly longer time to do so and many more natural resources belonging to the various ppls of Africa respectively. They had the means and the time and yet accomplished absolutely nothing without either assistance from Arabs and then the Europeans. Also, they enslaved one another and sold them to Europeans... Europeans did not enslave anyone already in that predicament. The local African kingdoms were themselves participating in primitive accumulation yet despite this they achieved nothing.

These European nations begun developing themselves long before the colonization of Africa. The exploitation of Africa is not what created these countries. Scrambling for Africa is the catalyst for modern capitalism and moving away from mercantilism/feudalism yes, but these kingdoms/countries were already developed and had a higher stage of development prior to the colonization of the Americas or to Africa. It was this precise advancement prior to said colonization that made European powers capable of colonization in the first place! England was the superior country with the superior technology and superior minds. Their positioning as well as their opportunism forwarded them ahead of the other European colonial powers. Spain and Portugal were having their own issues at the time which made internal strife a competing focus for their countries, meaning their investments into naval capacity were divided by their investments into domestic conflict and territorial disputes. England was not divided in its attention at that point. However, all three of these countries were infinitely more developed prior to the scramble for colonies. That's all I'm saying.
